Canvas module: Creative Color Wheel
Procedure/Beginning and Ending Dates:
Step 1: have students practice filling out the color wheel exercise.
Step 2: show students Canvas module: Creative Color Wheel.
Step 3: show examples of Creative Color Wheel that are posted on Canvas.
Step 4: explained that students will have to come up with their own idea for combining a color
wheel in a full value picture. Note: Put emphasis on the full value background as being highly
important.
Step 5: explain to students that each student will have to come up with your own idea once
they have their idea, they must have a working sketch. After they have the working sketch, they
must talk with me the teacher to claim their ideas. A student then will write down their name
and idea. Once the idea has been claimed no other student may use the idea.
Step 6: students will be informed that besides the color wheel and their picture everything else
will be drawn with the plane pencil no other materials will be allowed for this picture. The color
wheel itself students may use color pencil or paint.
Step 7: after students have their idea, they may use the larger paper and will be given work
time to finish their project.
Formal & Informal Assessment Related to Objectives:
Informal: Teacher walks around to check checking on students and answer questions. Teacher
asks questions: Do you need any help? Why did you make that choice? How do you plan to
incorporate the color wheel?
Formal: Checklist with the following:
1. Did students do the color wheel exercise?
2. Students will use a full range of value.
3. Students will use all 12 colors in the color wheel.
4. Students will come up with your own original idea.
5. Students will work with regular pencils and colored pencils. I will allow markers or paints for
the color wheel.
Accommodations (Students that Need More Support & Students that Need More Challenge)
This project gives the students many choices. They can go as elaborate or as simplistic as they
choose. Students will be shown examples and have various materials that they can look on via
Canvas.
Teacher Reflections/Future Variations:
Emphasize the full value background make sure students realize that that is critical. Make the
students understand that the color wheel is to create interest but in many ways is not the focus
the background is essential for good grade. Explain that students do not have to have color
wheel in a circle I am only expecting students use the 12 colors that are in the credit color
wheel. Show example of this on Canvas.
