Looking back on my scouting career, I'm amazed at how far I've come.
I'm applying for
Eagle Scout, the highest rank. I've learned a variety of skills, including how to start a fire with
flint and steel, how to hike and camp safely, and several other things. But more importantly I've
developed core principles and skills that I'll hold with me for the rest of my life.
I worked hard in high school to be a good person and a good leader. I was involved in a
variety of programs and sports, and I was always willing to lend a hand and take the lead when
the opportunity arose. Water Polo and Swim Team, which I played for a total of eight seasons,
were two sports that helped me develop and improve my skills over the four years. I was able to
lead the Water Polo team as Junior Varsity captain my Freshman and Sophomore years, before I
was promoted to Varsity my Junior year and was no longer able to captain. However, it changed
again during my Senior season, when my work ethic and leadership qualities were recognized by
my coaches, earning me the role of team captain once more. I was able to swim all four Varsity
seasons for the Swim Team, but I was only able to captain my Junior and Senior seasons.
Marching Band, in which I played the tenor saxophone, was another important part of my High
School experience. For the past three years, I've been lucky enough to be a Section Leader for
the low reed instruments.
In the fall of 2021, I will attend Sacramento State University after graduating from high
school. I'll be studying for a business degree, which will hopefully take me on the road to a
career in law enforcement. I've always been someone who tries to assist anyone who needs it.
Whether it's picking up a friend who doesn't have a ride or checking in on someone and
providing support during a difficult time in their life. I was taught as a child to treat others with
kindness and dignity, and that is exactly what I have done and continue to do for a living.
Helping others makes me happy. It's not just about me and concentrating on my own success; it's
also about helping others. Small acts of kindness have the power to change someone's life
forever.
I want to be able to support people in life. It could change as I get older, but nothing
would suit me right now if I couldn't do good in the community and be there for those who need
it the most. It's not something where everybody leaps up and down and says, "I want to put
myself in positions that no one wants to be in," but I believe that if there is a way to help or save
someone, it's something I'm eager to do.
The skills I have learned through the years will greatly help me. I have learned to set
goals and make them happen. Learning how to perform CPR, First Aid, Water Rescues,
Communication, and so much more from Scouting will help me reach my ultimate goal… To
help people for a living.
