4 Upgrade Completion 21
To prevent missing data, the customer needs to manually store reports that have been
created as well as all other data on the H-drive prior to installing the update.
For safety reasons, the customer needs to archive all images and raw data prior to instal‐
ling the upgrade.
1.1.3 Prerequisites
n SOMARIS/5 VB30/VB39/VB40 is running.
n ICS & IES new service key and licenses for VB41.
n Customer has archived all images and raw data.
n For the configuration of Virtual Simulation software (VSim) you need support
from Siemens OCS CSE or the Applications Specialist and the Physicist.
2.1 Preparations
For safety reasons, the customer needs to archive all images prior to installing the up‐
date.
To prevent missing data, the CSE needs to manually store the postprocessing applica‐
tions data on the H-drive for the customer prior to installing the update.
The customer needs to archive all raw data prior to installing the update, because the
data will definitely be deleted during the software installation of the IRS. The IRS soft‐
ware has to be installed completely (boot from CD/DVD).
2. All applications (e.g. Explorer, Patient Browser) must be closed and stay closed during
the entire update unless requested in the instructions.
3. Walk through the instructions step by step and do not try to save time by working out
your own "update strategy". This is especially important when installing the IES. WAIT
when it asks you to wait until the ICS is ready.
It may be helpful and save time if the license file and all DICOM nodes are noted prior to
the update.
n Open Windows Explorer
n Search for C:\somaris\service\html\report\report.htm, right-click on the file and use
Send to... to save to a floppy
n Copy the file license.dat in folder C:\Somaris\Config\Licensing also to a floppy.

BHC adaptation
n From the service software home menu, select Utilities.
n Under source, select Escape to OS and at the command select NT command Inter‐
preter.

select BHC_XXKV,
for example, BHC_120KV, write down the number, e.g.: the V1 in registry is
KV120_STA

installation.
You will be prompted to insert a blank CD for the backup.
n Write the result of the SRS function check into the table below.
n Click Finish and Home.
n Cancel the requested restart.
SRS is correctly installed if the status of the Desired and Actual checkboxes are the same
--> SRS should also work after the upgrade due to backup/restore!
If the checkboxes differ, an error message is output --> SRS will not work, SRS trouble‐
shooting is required after the upgrade.
If the backup was not successful (e.g. a bad CD), the message "Error occurred with Silent
Installation" will come up. You have to begin the installation again with R:\sinstall.bat
n After backup is finished, the message "Please insert the OEMSetup CD..." is dis‐
played.
n Insert the DVD “Som/5_ICS/IES_VB41A_1 of 2”, and press the OK button.
System reboots from DVD.
n Select “Restore the systemdrive” using the drop-down menu in the window, and

IES_VB41A_2 of 2”, and then click “OK” button.
n Wait until the DVD rejects automatically. At the same time, a message "Restore of the
system is finished successfully ... ..." pops up. Take out the DVD and click OK. The
installation will start automatically.
n If the window “Startup Error -> Failed to start process: pdfcamp-registry” appears,
press OK
n After a successful software installation the message "Please insert the Backup CD for
Restore and press OK" displays.
n For systems with IRS3 continue with ( IRSmx2 Installation (only for systems with
IRS3) / Page 11).
For systems with IRSmx2s continue with ( Software Update IRSmx2s / Page 18).
The IRS installation is only necessary for systems with IRS3. The IRS3 must be exchanged
for an IRSmx2s.
Transporting
Move the IRS on its pallet near its final installation location.
Do not move the IRS over uneven sections of the floor. Vibrations can damage the IRS.
1. Remove all nails and fasteners with the pry bar if necessary.
2. Remove the top and sides of the wooden crate if necessary.
The IRS is air-cooled by internal ventilators. Ensure unimpaired circulation from the in‐
take and outlet. For correct cooling, a minimum distance of 100 mm at the back and 150
mm at the front between the IRS and other objects is required!
Never put the IRS into a closed cabinet; otherwise, it will overheat!
For the exact installation location, refer to the project plan or ask the on-site project
manager. The IRS can also be installed in a room adjacent to the examination room.
n For the installation, fold down the spacers at the back of the IRS. This is necessary to
maintain the minimum distance to the wall.

4.1.4 Tests
Before performing the software self test at the CTWP, “Tune CD Burning” has to be per‐
formed.
The backup files have been saved correctly when ok is appended to the end of the back‐
up filename,
e.g. <hostname>-SW-Settings02-PXXX-date_time_ok.ar

are the startup CDs which are used for recovery DVD/CD installation, creation, and check‐
ing.
