EXERXISE SECRET

CHAPTER FIVE

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF AI

Introduction
5.1. Considered as the 4th Industrial Revolution, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has
become a reality in today’s world, especially in the military. Experts and academicians
have emphasized the importance of AI for a long time. Moreover, leaders of all tires
have made important statements that bring to the fore the significance of AI which can
be summarized with what Putin stated on September 2017: Putin: “Leader in artificial
intelligence will rule world”. In this chapter different statistics and survey will be
discussed that has been already carried out.

Advantages

5.2. Dealing with Routine Tasks. One massive advantage of AI is its

potential to complete routine tasks through intricate automation that will increase
productivity. Theoretically this can remove “boring” tasks from humans and free them
up to be increasingly creative.

5.3. Faster Decisions. Using AI alongside cognitive technologies can help

make faster decisions and carry out actions quicker.

5.4. Avoiding Errors. The phrase “human error” was born because humans,
naturally, make mistakes from time to time. Computers however, do not make these
mistakes – that is, of course, assuming they are programmed properly. With AI, data
could be processed error-free, no matter how big the dataset might be.

5.5. Taking Risks on Behalf of Humans. With AI the risks to expose humans van
be minimize in the name of research.

5.6. Difficult Exploration. AI robotics can be put to use in mining and other fuel
exploration processes.

5.7. Available for 24x7. An Average human will work for 6-8 hours a day excluding
the breaks. Humans are built in such a way to get some time out for refreshing
themselves and get ready for a new day of work and they even have weekly offed to
stay intact with their work-life and personal life. But using AI we can make machines
work 24x7 without any breaks and they don’t even get bored, unlike humans.

5.8. New Inventions. AI is powering many inventions in almost every domain

which will help humans solve the majority of complex problems. For Example, recently
doctors can predict breast cancer in the woman at earlier stages using advanced AI-
based technologies.

Disadvantages. The disadvantages of introduction of AI are as follows:

a. No one-size fits for all solution.

b. Require Supervision.

c. Can't Think for Itself.

d. Lack of Creativity.

e. No Compromise on Safety, Ethics, and Privacy . There is still some

work to be done in figuring out the limits to which we use AI. Current limitations
highlight the importance of safety in AI and it must be acted upon swiftly.
Additionally, most critics of AI argue along lines of the ethics of implementing it,
not just in terms of how it makes privacy a forgotten concept, but also
philosophically.

f. Adversarial Attacks Since AI isn't human, it isn't exactly equipped to

adapt to deviations in circumstances. For example, simply applying tape on the
wrong side of the road can cause an autonomous vehicle to swerve into the
wrong lane and crash. A human might not even register or react to the
tape. While in normal conditions the autonomous vehicle may be far safer, it is
these outlier cases that we need to be worried about.

g. Cost. Mining, storing and analyzing data will be very costly both in
terms of energy and hardware use. For example, the estimated training cost for
the GPT-3 model was $4.6 million.

h. Access to Data. For prediction or decision models to be trained

properly, they need data. As many people have put it, data is now one of the
most sought-after commodities ousting oil. It has become a new currency.
Currently, large troves of data sit in the hands of large corporate organizations.

j. Unemployment. As AI is replacing the majority of the repetitive tasks

and other works with robots, human interference is becoming less which will
cause a major problem in the employment standards.

At that time, the researchers came together to clarify and develop the concepts around
“thinking machines” which up to this point had been quite divergent. McCarthy is said to
have picked the name artificial intelligence for its neutrality; to avoid highlighting one of
the tracks being pursued at the time for the field of “thinking machines” that included
cybernetics, automata theory and complex information processing. The proposal for the
conference said, “The study is to proceed on the basis of the conjecture that every
aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in principle be so precisely
described that a machine can be made to simulate it.Today, modern dictionary
definitions focus on AI being a sub-field of computer science and how machines can
imitate human intelligence (beinghuman-like rather than becoming human). The English
Oxford Living Dictionary gives this definition: “The theory and development of computer
systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual
perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.”

Definitions of artificial intelligence begin to shift based upon the goals that are trying
to be achieved with an AI system. Generally, people invest in AI development for
one of these three objectives:

1. Build systems that think exactly like humans do (“strong AI”)

2. Just get systems to work without figuring out how human
reasoning works (“weak AI”)
3. Use human reasoning as a model but not necessarily the end goal

INTELLIGENT AGENT can perceive its environment so as to know what is

going on, whether by vision, touch, hearing, or understanding language;
and ways in which it can turn its plans into real actions, either as robot
motion or as natural language utterances. An intelligent agent is a system
that perceives its environment and takes actions which maximize its
chances of success
