VS Calculations %vs DFT X 100 WFT: Page 1 of 1

This document contains calculations to determine the volume solids percentage (VS%) of various paint applications. It provides 5 examples of calculating VS% by taking the dry film thickness (DFT) and dividing it by the wet film thickness (WFT), then multiplying by 100. The examples show VS% values ranging from 33.33% to 62% depending on the DFT and WFT measurements.

VS Calculations
%VS = DFT X 100
WFT

1. A DFT of 53µm was obtained from a WFT of 110µm, What was the VS% of the
paint
53 X 100 = 48.18%
110

2. A paint was applied at 120µm WFT. The resulting DFT was 65µm. What was
the VS%.
65 X 100 = 54.17%
120

3. What would be the VS% of a paint with a WFT of 120µm and a DFT of 68µm
was obtained.
68 X 100 = 56.67%
120

4. What was the VS% of a paint with a DFT of 36µm, When the WFT was 108µm
36 X 100 = 33.33%
108

5. ADFT of 62µm was measured from a WFT application of 100µm, what would
be the VS% of the paint used
62 X 100 = 62%
100
