Section A : General Comments

High temperature working
It is suggested that, for temperatures above 350C, the following guidelines are adopted as good
working practice:
(i) Store unmixed materials in a cool (preferably temperature controlled) environment, avoiding
exposure to direct sunlight.
(ii) Keep equipment cool, arranging shade protection if necessary. It is especially important to
keep cool those surfaces of the equipment which will come into direct contact with the material
itself.
(iii) Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, arrange temporary shading as
necessary.
(iv) Make sufficient material, plant and labour available to ensure that application is a continuous
process.
Equipment
Fosroc operates a policy to encourage the use, where possible, of approved or licensed applicators.
This ensures that repairs are completed satisfactorily so that the long term performance of the
materials is assured. For contractors who wish to apply the materials themselves Fosroc is also able
to offer technical assistance and training, either on-site or at its Training Centre in Jeddah.

1.0 Preparation
1.1 Clean the surface free of oil, grease and all loosely adhering particles, by stiff wire brushing.
1.2 Follow step 1 by soft brushing and blowing of dry, oil-free compressed air.
1.3 Ensure that the surface is free of surface water or bleeding. Conduct a test patch when
there is a doubt of the substrate condition.
2.0 Application
2.2 Apply a full coat of Nitoproof 10, using a brush, roller or spray equipment. Confirm coverage
rates from the relevant technical data sheet and apply accordingly.
2.3 Apply the second coat at right angle to the first, after the first coat has dried fully.
2.4 Clean grit of 2mm size should be broadcast into the wet second coat to provide the
mechanical key, when it is necessary to cover the membrane with a screed or render.
2.6 Damaged areas of Nitoproof 10 can be readily over coated to restore the continuity of the
membrane.
3.0 Cleaning
3.1 Clean all tools and equipment with Fosroc Solvent 102.
This method statement is offered by Fosroc as a ‘standard proposal’ for the application of Nitoproof
10. It remains the responsibility of the Engineer to determine the correct method for any given
application.
Where alternative methods are to be used, these must be submitted to Fosroc for approval, in
writing, prior to commencement of any work. Fosroc will not accept responsibility or liability for
variations to the above method statement under any other condition.

THE PROJECT
Municipality of Khamis Mushayt decided to remove all traffic lights from most of the city
intersections to save citizens’ time and make smoother traffic flow, Khamis Mushayt is a city in
south-west Saudi Arabia, located east of Abha, the provincial seat of the Asir province, 884
kilometers (549 mi) from the national capital of Riyadh.
One of the biggest projects in this area is King Khaled road intersection with King Sultan and King
Faisal roads, the project consists of two crossing bridges with a total length of 2,626 meters and
heights ranging between 8 and 17 meters. Each bridge is 24 meters wide with 3 lanes in both
directions. Project was awarded to Sinopec International Co. with a budget of USD 35 million.
Side view of the intersection
THE SOLUTION
FOSROC was involved in early stages through supplies of concrete super plasticizer Conplast
SP440M, Nitoproof 10 also was approved from the client and was used for waterproofing
purpose of bridges foundations.
FOSROC went into extensive trails with the contractor on the biggest scope in this project, the
fabrication of the bridges girders, FOSROC managed to meet stringent pre-stressed concrete
specifications with supplies of more than 85 tons of Cebex Cable grout Plus and Conbextra TS.
Besides regular and controlled supplies, project site proved to help contractor to adjust
concrete mix design based on the weather changes to ensure consistent performance.
Fixing girders crane
THE BENEFITS
The client achieved more than required specifications in concrete admixtures using the right
admixture, moreover the client benefitted from being able to contract with a single party for
the various types of construction solutions including concrete additive, the whole offering was
feasible in terms of cost and ease of application.
