Downloading and Installing
To install Desktop Shark, double click the installer and follow the steps provided.
This installation will walk you through installation directories as well as how to
open Desktop Shark. It is recommended to use default settings.
Running for the first time
However, all settings shown during this process can be found again under the
“Advanced Settings” tab in the main console.
During this process you will be asked to create a user-name and password or log
in with an existing one. This is very important because this will allow you to see
activity online or provide additional security when the program is unlocked on the
host machine.
Opening the Main Console for the first time
The main console will open for the first time automatically after the setup wizard
finishes but every-time afterward will require you to unlock the console manually.
You will be asked a method for opening this console during the setup process.
The default methods are by typing “desktopshark” or pressing and holding “tab
+ home + end” on the keyboard. Either of these combinations will reveal the
Desktop Shark console.
Once Desktop Shark opens you will be presented with several tabs. Each of these
tabs show a different feature of Desktop Shark and provide options to control the
data and information it captures. The version in this document explains the
features for Desktop Shark version 3.0 and the tabs can be seen below.
The above screen shot displays a view of the main console. We will give much
more detail later on about each tab and the provided functions.
Desktop Shark Main Console Explained
The Keyboard Logger tab contains features relevant to monitoring and recording
keys typed in the keyboard. The full version allows this to be viewed online or
from another computer but for purposes of this Demo we will explain how it works
from the console. Below is a screen shot of the Keyboard Logger tab and
features.
The keylogger tab contains controls to filter and view keyboard logs. They will
appear in the list on the right side of the screen and when a log is clicked it will
display in the center. To apply filters on the left side of the screen just select the
filter you wish to use and run it by clicking the “Filter Logs” button. The “Show
All” button populates the list with all logs for the selected machine and windows
user account. The list is ordered from newest to oldest.
The features displayed above can be tested and used on the trial version of
Desktop Shark. To begin using the features just install and run.
Screen Recording Tab
The Screen Shot tab contains features relevant to recording the computer screen
and allows the users to monitor and filter the images. Below shows a basic view
of the screen shot
To view screen shots in FULL SCREEN mode click the “Zoom” button. Once that is
clicked the below screen will open.
Web Browser History Tab
The web browser history tab allows you to see browser history and filter the
images by a specific user or date. It also has the ability to show images from
remote computers.
The default browsers supported by Desktop Shark are Internet Explorer, Mozilla
Firefox and Google Chrome (plugin). To install the Google Chrome plugin click the
Plugins link on the menu bar and Search.
Search Engine History Tab
Desktop Shark records search engine history typed in browsers. For example, a
search typed with text “What is desktop shark” will be recorded in the following
table.
The filter on the right side of the screen can be used to filter computer, searches
by text, windows user or date.
Website Password Recording
Desktop Shark has the ability to record passwords typed in to log in to websites.
However, it may not record the passwords for all websites. It depends on the HTML
format of the site and security level built-in. To access and see passwords and their
associated website click the “Website Passwords” tab.
If you are looking for passwords from a website that is not supported send email
questions to [email protected] and we will be sure to include them in future
releases.
Advanced Settings
All features built-in to Desktop Shark can be managed and changed from this tab.
Simply check the check box or text box and save it. Desktop supports several different
settings to help customize the interface and how it performs.
Desktop Shark Plugins
The plugin marketplace contains descriptions and links of how to install the various
plugins for Desktop Shark. To install a plugin simply download the files and click
“Add/Remove Plugin(s)” from the file menu. If they don't appear immediately under the
plugins tab then restarting Desktop Shark should fix. To restart Desktop Shark click
“restart under the File menu.
