Activity 2:Case Study

Instruction: Read the case below and discuss what type of family therapy you will use for the
case.

“A boy with encopresis was referred by pediatrics to psychiatry due to concerns about the
family's functioning. The parents had recently divorced and the father retained custody of the
two preschool children. The children's fearfulness and lack of appropriate social relationships
were major problems. The child's encopresis threatened successful kindergarten adaptation. “
What type of family therapy you will use as a counselor? Highlight your
points on why you use it in such case.

Answer:

Strategic Family Therapy will be used in this kind of situation because in this situation the problem is
focuses in the family. Because of what happen to the parents of a boy his parents have lack of attention of him.
That’s why BSFT has been implemented as a prevention, early intervention, and intervention strategy for delinquent
and substance- abusing adolescents. The goal of BSFT is to improve youth behavior by: x Improving family
relationships that are presumed to be directly related to youth behavior problems.
