Chapter l
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Until being a good teacher, all of them start from the beginning. Teaching says
that there is a reason why they are better and some are best at teaching, tough it is
hard for all students to learn from them quickly. There are also others who affect the
students in different aspects and these teachers are motivating the students, that’s why
students are so compassionate in studying to complete task, the challenges give to
them.
All of the achievements of students are because of the motivated teachers that
keep on working just to explained everything. It is easy to motivate a students when it
comes to studying but motivating teachers to work well is also very critical. According to
Marry A. (2010), Inherent and extrinsic encouragement contributes to the superior
performance of the instructor. Such motivational variables, including allowances, Wage
and appreciation etc. have a beneficial impact on their happiness, which also
contributes to their productive effectiveness.
From the different circumstances of teaching students, the teachers are adapting
the new ways in effective teaching. According to Delvin, Kift and Nelson (2012), it is
argued that effective teaching also takes place where there is reflective practice. And
these reflective activities are often known as the brick and engine or simply the basis for
productive teaching and learning.
On the other hand, some people assumes that if students are introduced to the
teacher, successful teaching takes place. Sometimes it is not the building themselves
that are critical for effective teaching and learning but the quality of the processes that
take place within the buildings (Butts, 2010). The process that occurs in the teacher-
student communication is an example of effective and better teaching and learning.
Many teachers are shocked of what will happen to the education system of the
Philippines, they think a lot remedies and solutions just to teach and educate students
that’s why teachers are adjusting what is new to the system, from modular teaching to
online teaching and as well as the blended teaching. And it is also known as the New
Normal because of the pandemic that is happening. All teachers even the veteran ones
are starting from the beginning because all of them are new to this process of teaching.
This study will help the researchers to gain knowledge about the teachers’
performance before and during the pandemic that affect their way of teaching and on
how they interact with the students.
Research Questions
This research aims to know the factors that affect the teaching performance of
the respondents. These researchers will seek answers for the following research
questions to obtain more knowledge and information about the study.
1. What are the demographics profile of the respondents?
a. Gender
b. Years of service
2. What are the factors that affect the teaching performances of the respondents in
each subject area?
3. How does these factors affect the respondents in interacting with the students.
4. Into what extent the factors affect the performance of the respondents?
5. What are the adverse effects of the factors to the respondents?
6. How does these adverse effects affects the teaching performance of the
respondents?
Significance of the Study
Nowadays, it is seen that there are a lot of changes in teaching performance
especialy that we are having a pandemic. All of us are affected from teachers to
students and also to the parents.
In regard with this, the study will provide data and knowledge about the factors
that affect the effectiveness of teaching performance of the senior high school teachers
before and during the pandemic in dominican school of pilar A.Y. 2020-2021
The results of the study will be of great benefit to the following:
Respondents. The study will help the teachers determine the factors that affect
the effectiveness of their teaching performance. This in result will help them become
more effective and prepared during pandemic. The results would also develop the
teacher’s teaching-learning and evaluating strategies in enhancing knowledge, skills
and attitude to the students in the time frame given.
Dominican School of Pilar. The study will help the school create necessary
innovations and flexibilities in line with living its mission of providing quality education
system to the students. This will help the school become more versatile despite the on-
going pandemic, thus will help in the advancement of school management and
teaching-evaluation approach. In addition, this will foster new ways of enhancing
knowledge, skills and attitude, thus preparing globally-competitive students in the future.
Senior Highschool Students. The study will help the students acquire quality
education through an effective teaching performance of the teachers. This will help the
students continue their education despite the pandemic.
Conceptual Framework
The community is already experiencing the effects of the pandemic from different
sectors of living, the different industries and economy of the Philippines. Teaching is an
exceptionally complex and demanding profession requiring expertise that is developed,
refined, and renewed through formal and informal learning throughout a teacher’s
education and career (Metsapelto, Riitta-Leena et al., 2020).
. The reliance on research-based knowledge in both teacher education and
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an indication of the professionalization
of teaching in the top-performing educational systems (Toom, A et al., 2010). Due to
lack of face-to-face communication, it is hard for some teachers to deliver their lessons
and the poor network connection is one of the problems in online learning because
these affects the professionality of the teachers. Students who’s addicted and giving
more time to play games than to study are one of the obstructions on how teachers give
more information’s and knowledges to prepare them to future. Portraying the knowledge
and skills that teachers typically rely on and use in their praxis is a conceptually
complex endeavor. An approach is needed which strives to explain the process of
teaching and teachers’ work by attending to multiple critical factors and their interactions
(Blömeke, Gustafsson, & Shavelson, 2015).
A contemporary challenges, however, is the burgeoning of educational literature
that may blur the vision of what kind of skills and knowledge-building teachers need to
optimize student learning, engagement, and well-being (Metsapelto, Riitta-Leena et al.,
2020).

illustrates the paradigm of the study showing the IPO (input - process - output)
model. By conducting surveys, interviewing the respondents and reviewing
the report, the data and information on the factors affecting the effectiveness
of teaching success of senior high school teachers during the pandemic in
