BMWTamper Dot Removal Reduced

These steps are how I programmed my vehicle, yours may vary slightly. Proceed at your own risk.

Tools Used:
1.1. Step 1: Copy the last seven digits of the VIN number (FGSTNR) and the mileage (Odometer) from the old cluster.
1.1.1.Turn on your car. Connect the computer to the car with your BMW adapters, open BMW Scanner and proceed to the main screen.
1.1.2.Click “Scan!” to scan all the modules. This may take a few minutes.
1.1.3.Double click the IKE module.
1.1.4.Record both the VIN (FGSTNR) and the mileage (Odometer) from the upper right-hand corner (The odometer is in kilometers)
1.2. Step 2: Save EEPROM data and Coding data
1.2.1.From the IKE page, click “Read EEPROM” (It will automatically save the file)
1.2.2. Click “Coding data” and click “Read coding data” (It will save a file)
1.2.3.From the IKE page click “Reprogramming”
All your old data should be backed up now. Turn the key off and swap out your clusters. On the E46, it takes two Torx T-20 screws located behind the steering
wheel. They go up into the plastic of the cluster and into the dashboard. There are two bundles of wires that connect to the back of the cluster.
When you install your new cluster, turn the key on. You will see the dreaded tamper dot show up.
2. Section 2: Removing Tamper Dot
2.1. Click on “Car ident”, you will see that the mileage and VIN no longer match. (Optional)
2.2. Click “Scan!” from the main page.
2.3. Copy from the EWS to the IKE
2.3.1.From the main screen, click double click on “EWS”
2.3.2.Click “Reprogramming”, then click on “Copy ZCS coding”
2.3.3.Click “EWS IKE”
2.4. 2.4 Copy again but within the IKE
2.4.1.From main screen double click on the “IKE”. It may show some errors now and you will see the VIN and mileage have changed.
2.4.2.Click “Reprogramming”. Then click “copy ZCS/FA coding”
2.4.3.Click “EWS IKE”.
2.5. Reprogram the mileage to zero
2.5.1.Click “Reprogramming”. Then click “Write odometer”. Click “Yes” if it shows up
2.5.2.Enter “0” and click “OK”
2.5.3.Mine said “Odometer write: Fail”, but it still worked. Click “OK”
2.5.3.1. When I did this my tamper dot started flashing frantically.
2.5.4.Click “Unit software restart”, the gauge cluster will restart and you should see all zeros as the mileage.
2.6. Reprogram the VIN
2.6.1.Click “Reprogramming”. Click “Write FGSTNR”
2.6.2.Enter the last seven digits of your VIN that you recorded earlier.
2.6.3.Click “OK”, you should see an information screen, click “OK”
2.6.3.1. The cluster should restart and show no more tamper dot.
2.7. Reprogram the mileage
2.7.1.Click “Reprogramming” Click “Write odometer”. Click “Yes”
2.7.2.Enter in your old odometer reading that you recorded earlier and click “OK”. You should see a success info screen. The cluster will restart and show the newly
programmed mileage.
3. Section 3: Restoring old programming (These steps are likely optional. The new cluster may have different transmission settings, chime settings, or similar)
3.1. Click “Coding data”, then “Write coding data”
3.2. A popup will open, double click the file that was saved earlier.
3.3. Should see a success window, click “OK”
3.4. For good measure, click “Reprogramming” and click “Recalculate EEPROM checksum” (This fixed code that I was getting)
3.5. Double Click “Errors” and click “Clear errors”
3.6. Go back to the main page, click “Car ident”. Then “Continue” (You should see that the VIN matches and Odometer is close if not exact)
