A graduate from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has a research-based education at a high
technological level that qualifies the graduate to take on specialized business functions and participate in
scientific development. A master’s degree in Engineering also gives access to further education within
research (e.g. research positions or a PhD).

Telecommunication covers many fields. Applications range from traditional telephony and television to mobile
communication and internet and scenarios of ubiquitous intelligent communication systems. The course can cover

The Optical Communication study-line focuses on high speed communication over optical fibres from transmission
and network perspectives. Graduates understand the physical characteristics of the technology and its limitations.
This is an advanced interdisciplinary area based on the theory of electromagnetic fields, semiconductor physics,
communications theory and digital signal processing.
Graduates of this study-line are well equipped to work in research and development at manufacturers of fibres and
other optical components and with optical-system/network agents and operators all over the world.

The MSc program in Telecommunication – Signals and Transmission Technology
The Signals and Transmission Technology study-line focuses on developing and analyzing methods for signal
processing in telecommunication and signal-transmission technologies. The latter include wired (cables and optical
fibres) and wireless communication. A core subject is the digital signal processing common to most modern
transmission systems .The subjects include physical media and transmission equipment and the digitisation of user
signals (speech and video) such as to minimize capacity take-up. A wide variety of implementation technologies
can also be studied.
Graduates of this line are equipped to work in research and development in telecommunications-equipment
companies, notably the in mobile telephony industries. Many graduates are employed in companies offering
advanced multimedia services such as video services and equipment.
