The cluster map depicts the many multimedia forms that may be used to interpret literary texts.
The use of multimedia formats in literary interpretation can help to define the social
environment in which literary works may be explored and shared with others. In contrast to
traditional mass media, such as printed materials or audio recordings, it is a method of
communication that integrates multiple content types such as text, audio, pictures, animations,
or video into a single presentation.
Slideshow presentation is created with the use of Microsoft PowerPoint. It contains
series of pictures or pages of information (slides) arranged in sequence and often
displayed on a large screen using a video projector.
Tag cloud is a visual, stylized arrangement of words or tags within a textual content
such as websites, articles, speeches and databases.
Mobile phone text tula is a traditional Filipino poem. A particular example of this
poem is a tanaga that consists of 4 lines with 7 syllables each with the same rhyme at the
end of each line.
Video is an electronic device used to record, copy, playback, broadcast, and display
moving visual media.
Mind mapping is a graphical technique to visualize connections of ideas and pieces of
information. This tool structures information to better analyze, comprehend, synthesize,
recall and generate new ideas.
Blog or a “weblog” is a website containing informational articles about a person’s own
opinions, interests and experiences.
ACTIVITY 2: MOBILE TEXT TULA

Freedom
Created by: Edwin C. Peralta III
What freeman knoweth freedom? Never he
Whose father's father through long lives have reigned
O'er kingdoms which mere heritage attained.
Though from his youth to age he roam as free
As winds, he dreams not freedom's ecstacy.
But he whose birth was in a nation chained
For centuries; where every breath was drained
From breasts of slaves which knew not there could be
Such thing as freedom,-he beholds the light
Burst, dazzling; though the glory bind his sight
He knows the joy. Fools laugh because he reels
And weilds confusedly his infant wll;
The wise man watching with a heart that feels
Says: "Cure for freedom's harms is freedom still."
What I Have Learned
Directions: Reflect on what you have learned on the use of multimedia formats in interpreting
literary texts. On your Facebook wall, post your thoughts on how multimedia make studying
literature more exciting and meaningful.
Multimedia uses multiple forms of text, audio, graphics, animation, or video to
convey information. As such, multimedia technologies offer today’s classroom
teachers the opportunity to move from a largely linear learning environment to an
increasingly nonlinear environment. Such technologies also allow students a
strong degree of choice as they pursue learning with multimedia texts. Although
multimedia classroom tools offer classroom teachers multiple ways of engaging
students in the learning process, they also present challenges for teachers. One of
the challenges lies in the fact that certain multimedia tools promote far more active
learning and student decision-making than others.
While it is still not entirely apparent how the thinking of digital natives is
changing, new technologies, when presented to teacher candidates in the context of
their intended use, which is to enhance the teaching and learning processes, seem
to motivate, engage, and offer more opportunities for self-directed learning and
reflection. Such technologies provide avenues for creativity and foster inclusion of
21st-century skills in teacher education curricula. When the technology is already
familiar and we employ these tools to challenge students to use critical skills, we
reap the benefits of teaching today’s students in their familiar spaces.
What I Can Do
Directions:
1. Read the poem, “Apo On the Wall” by Bj Patino.
2. Interview people about their experiences during the Martial Law.
3. Create a collage of photos using PowerPoint depicting the experiences of people during
Martial Law. Write a brief description to your work.
Apo on the Wall is a revelation of the terrible side of what transpired under
Marcos' reign in the past. There are many secret unreported tales and unheard voices of
testimony that have never been given a chance to be heard. Fear, sadness, pain, and
unspoken lamentations from our history pervade the entire tale around this poem. I felt
sorry for the Filipinos who had to go through this. I would be extremely depressed if I
placed myself in their position. I sensed the poem's tremendous grief as a result of the
injustices they faced. I imagine a river of bitter tears streaming down their faces, the
sound of silent wailing, and their deep pain as they cry. I detect a sense of hopelessness
in their psyche. They were confined to a dark room with no access to light. They were
compelled to sit in the gloom, as if they were long dead. I, too, felt the agony they drew
from the past. Their lives are defined by the sensation of being squandered. It tastes like
a combination of bitter and sour cuisine. They are unable to find serenity or recall
delight. I am impacted by their sorrow up to this point. They were horribly abused and
exhausted at the time. It leaves them in shock from continual agony all day, as if they
were stomped by a massive boulder. They were bemoaning the events of the past.
Overall, I felt the pain of the Filipino people who were living under martial law.
