In the praise of the noble prophet

Mohammed (peace be upon him)

In Madina is the grave of the prophet, which visited by angels

It is such grave, there is excellence in empyrean and in the sky

The tomb of the holy prophet in Madina

Is there any relation between desert of Madina with the

gardens?
So with the lovely air of Madina, it is envious the garden of
paradise

If Madina city is safe then everything is safe

So Allah keeps it as the cause of the blessing
5

Madina is such a garden city which is the décor of all gardens

The seasons of the gardens of paradise are due to the Madina

While leaving Madina, so no need to visit the garden of paradise

As it is better than heaven and it is a living paradise on the earth

Not we but Allah also love the city of the

prophet Madina

The love of Madina city is like the love of the

prophet and love of Allah

The beggar of this door is the king of fate and worlds

The beggar of this place is matter of envy of the kings

One who has become rich there so his fate could not known
In the resurrection day prophet, Ibrahim will find help there

Oh, Allah help us to reach Madina city to see how it is there?

Where is the mercy and there is available blessing everywhere?

If one leaves Madina then he will not find the resort of heaven
If there is a love of Madina then it is guaranteed of the heaven

On the earth, he is called Mohammed and Ahmed in the skies

His praise is in the world and also his praise is found in the skies

There is his great rule in Madina also he is a ruler of the skies

6

Madina is capital and he is the great ruler of the two worlds

What mistake you did Fatima by leaving the city of Madina ?

As it is such heaven and liked by the angles of the empyrean
7

Why visitor will go to heaven by leaving the city of Madina ?

What is heaven as it is gracefully for the sake of Madina city?

Saying this with such fondness and in a helpless condition
Peeran Peer, Peeran and the Sultan and Dastagir of time
Oh shah remove my difficulty soon as I am worried much
9

All the pious persons who put down necks before you
All said in the helpless condition oh Shah Ghouse Azam
With your grace to lighten our chests and as well hearts
Oh great teacher of the religion oh Shah Ghouse Azam
The boat in the sea of grief you are the only saver for us
Come and help the boat to goal oh Shah Ghouse Azam
Waves of the storm of grief are there from everywhere

The miracle of Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Quader Jilani (R.A.)

Mausoleum of Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Quader Jilani R.A.

Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Quader Jilani (R.A.), is the leader of all holy
persons like the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him.) who
11

is the leader of the group of all prophets of Allah which have

been sent down on the world. So, for this reason, he is called
and he is famous as a chief of all the saints. His spiritual benefits
and favours from his miracles were available in the all period of
time and even today is being continued and till the day of the
judgment, such favours and benefits will be available to the
mankind in the world. Because the favour and benefits of the
holy persons which is available during the life period and which
will be also available in the world after their demise from the
world. Allah the most Merciful and Beneficent has kept the holy
persons in every period of time so that there should available
favours of miracles and benefits to the mankind from them.
The holy persons due to the nearness of Allah and
perfection in the obedience of the prophet of Allah they were
away from the sins. Allah has given them the most excellent
status of the holy persons of the nation of the prophet
Mohammed (peace be upon him) and Allah’s divine power
being manifest by the holy persons

So for getting favour and benefits from the holy persons is

in fact of getting favour and benefits from Allah because their
saying, actions are according to the commandments of Allah
and as per the practice of the last prophet of Allah.
Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Quader Jilani (R.A.), and who was the
Qutub (highest cadre in spiritual pivot) of all time’s favour of
spiritual miracle is available in his saying which is as mentioned
as follows.
12

“If my disciple’s hiding will be open and if he will be there in

the East, and if I am in the West then I will cover it.”
In this way, his disciples and devotees were able to get his
favour of miracles and benefits of spiritual powers in all time
and at always. And they think him as a manifest of the help of
Allah and so, for this reason, they see his favour of miracles and
benefits from him. There is saying of the prophet, which is as
follows.
“If your animal will run away from you then you should call
as oh people of Allah help me.”
13

For the revival of the religion of Islam, Hadrat Sheikh Abdul

Quader Jilani (R.A.), is such an enormous personality and a
great leader and due to the blessing of his hand while finding
the religion of Islam as a patient in the exemplary shape and
given new life to it and so then he was becoming famous and
well known by the title of Mohiuddin.

The eleven principles of Naqshabandia Sufi chain

14

Mausoleum of Hadrat Khaja Bahuddin Naqshaband

The first eight principles are from 'Abd ul-Khaliq Ghujduwani (d.
1220). The final three principles were added by Baha ad-din
Naqshband (d. 1389).
1.Awareness in the Breath/Awareness in the Moment (Hush dar
dam)
15

"Every breath which is exhaled from within must be exhaled

with awareness and presence of mind and so that the mind
does not stray into forgetfulness."
Baha ad-din Naqshband said: "The foundation of our work is in
the breath. The more that one is able to be conscious of one's
breathing, the stronger is one's inner life. It is a must for
everyone to safeguard his breath in the time of his inhalation
and exhalation and further, to safeguard his breath in the
interval between the inhalation and exhalation."
As the seeker becomes occupied with the exercise of the
moment (i.e. remembering the breath), he turns his attention
from remembering the past and thinking of the future, and
focuses on each breath until it is expired.
Sa'd ud-din Kashghari added: "Hush dar dam is moving from
breath to breath so there is no heedlessness but rather there is
presence, and with each breath that we take should be the
remembrance of the Real."
Sheikh Abdul Janab Najmuddin al-Kubra said in his book,
Fawatih al-Jamal: "Dhikr (remembrance of God in the breath) is
flowing in the body of every single living creature by the
necessity of their breath—even without will—as a sign of
obedience, which is part of their creation. Through their
breathing, the sound of the letter 'Ha' of the Divine Name Allah
is made with every exhalation and inhalation and it is a sign of
the Unseen Essence serving to emphasize the Uniqueness of
God. Therefore it is necessary to be present with that
16

breathing,
17

in order to realize the Essence of the Creator."

The name Allah, which encompasses the ninety-nine Names
and Attributes, consists of four letters, Alif, Lam, Lam and Hah
(ALLAH). The people of Sufism say that the absolute unseen
Essence of Allah Exalted and Almighty is expressed by the last
letter vowelized by the Alif, "Hah." It represents the Absolutely
Unseen "He-ness" of the Exalted God (Ghayb al-Huwiyya al-
Mutlaqa lillah 'azza wa jall) in which the mystic loses his
separate identity with every "hah" in his breath.
18

The first Lam is for the sake of identification (tacrif) and the
second Lam is for the sake of emphasis (mubalagha).
The soul has long been thought to be in the breath. "For the
early thinkers the soul was visualized sensuously as a breath-
body." Awareness of the breath makes us aware of the soul and
the inner body, inner self, which belong to the moment.
In the path of the Khwajagan awareness in the breath is a
very great principle. Those in this path regard it a great
transgression to become unconscious of the breath.

2.Watch your Step! (Nazar bar qadam)

Direct yourself constantly towards the goal.
Sa'd ud-din Kashghari added: "Looking upon the steps means
that the seeker in coming and going looks upon the top of his
feet and thereby his attention is not scattered by looking at
what he should not look at." When the beginner's attention is
taken by shapes and colors outside of himself, his state of
remembering leaves him and is ruined, and he is kept from his
objective. This is because the beginning seeker does not have
the power of the "remembrance of the heart," so when his
sight falls upon things, his heart loses its collectedness, and his
mind becomes scattered.
Watch your step can also refer to watching circumstances,
feeling when is the right time for action, when is the right time
for inaction, and when is the right time for pause. Some have
19

said that Nazar bar qadam is an expression which refers to the

wisdom inherent in one's natural disposition.
Fakhr ud-Din Kashifi added: "Nazar bar qadam may be alluding
to the seekers traveling through the stages of breaking from
existence and putting behind self- love."
Of these three interpretations, the first refers to beginners' use
of this aphorism, the second refers to those in mid-progress on
the Way, and the third to the Attainers.
20

3.The Journey Home (Safar dar watan)

Your journey is towards your homeland. Remember you are
traveling from a world of illusion to a world of reality. The
wayfarer travels from the world of creation to the world of the
Creator.
The Journey Home is the transformation that brings man out
of his subjective dream state, so that he can fulfill his divine
destiny.
From the Rashahat-i 'ayn al-hayat: "[The journey home refers
to] that traveling which the seeker makes within his human
nature. In other words, travel from the qualities of humankind
toward the angelic qualities, moving from blameworthy
qualities to laudable ones." Sheikh Ahmad Sirhindi (d. 1624)
said: "This blessed expression [traveling in the homeland]
means traveling within the self. The source of its results lies in
putting the final [practice] at the beginning, which is one of the
characteristics of the Naqshbandi Way. And although this
[inner] traveling can also be found in other tariqas [schools of
Sufism], [in those] it is found only in the end after the 'traveling
on the horizons' [referring to the Qur'anic verse (41:53): 'We
will show them Our signs on the horizons and within their
selves until they know He is the Real']."
"Traveling on the horizons" is traveling from place to place.
At the beginning of the journey it can mean leaving home to
find a guide or teacher. Also it happened in former generations
that when the wayfarer had become established in a place, got
21

accustomed to it and become familiar with its people, they took

22

on traveling in order to break down habit and comfort and cut

themselves off from renown. They would choose travel in order
to experience complete emptying.
It means traveling within oneself, looking at oneself, examining
oneself and one's reactions, and how they act upon one.
This reflects the stress that the Naqshbandi path puts on the
inner states, stages, processes.
Be an external resident and let your heart
travel. Traveling without legs is the best kind of
travel.
23

4.Solitude in the Crowd (Khalwat dar anjuman)

There are two kinds of retreat. One is the outward kind in
which the seeker, far from people, sits alone in his cell until he
comes into contact with the spiritual world. This result comes
about because the external senses withdraw themselves and
the inner senses extend themselves to signs from the spiritual
world.
The second kind of retreat is the hidden one, where the seeker
is inwardly witnessing the secrets of the Real while he is
outwardly surrounded by people. Khalwat dar anjuman is of
this second type of retreat: outwardly to be with people,
inwardly to be with God.
In all your outer activities remain inwardly free. Learn not to
identify with anything whatsoever.
Khwaja Awliya Kabir, one of the deputies of 'Abd ul-Khaliq
Ghujduwani, explained khalwat dar anjuman as follows:
"'Retreat within the crowd' is that state when one is so
constantly and completely absorbed in divine remembrance
that 'one could walk through the market-place without hearing
a word.'"
They are with their Lord and simultaneously they are with the
people. As the Prophet said, "I have two sides: one faces my
Creator and one faces creation."
'Abd ul-Khaliq Ghujduwani himself was known to say: "Close
the door of the formality of sheikhhood, open the door of
24

friendship. Close the door of khalwat (solitary retreat) and

25

open the door of suhbat (companionship)." Baha ad-din

Naqshband said in this connection: "Our path is in
companionship. In [physical] retreat there comes fame and
with fame comes calamity. Our welfare lies with the assembly
and its companionship, on condition that [self-] negation is
found in one another."
When Baha ad-din reached Herat on his journey to Mecca,
the Amir Hussein arranged a gathering in his honour. At the
assembly the Amir asked him, "Since with your Presence there
is neither audible dhikr, nor voyaging, nor audition of special
music and poetry, what is your path?" He answered, "The pure
words of the tribe of 'Abd ul-Khaliq Ghujduwani, which are
'retreat within the crowd,' and we follow in their Way." "What
is retreat within the crowd?" the Amir asked. "Outwardly to be
with the people while inwardly to be with God," said
Naqshband.
26

The Amir expressed surprise and asked whether this was

actually possible. Baha ad-din replied that if it were not possible
God Most High would not have indicated it in a Qur'anic verse
which describes those who are not distracted from the
remembrance of God even while in the marketplace: "Men
whom neither business nor profit distracts from the
recollection of Allah" [24:37]. This is the way of the Naqshbandi
Order.
Ahmad Faruqi Sirhindî, Mujaddid-i-alf-i-thani (the Renewer
of the second millennium), said: "Retreat within the crowd is
derived from traveling in the homeland since if traveling in the
homeland is properly accomplished, then retreat within the
crowd will properly occur. The seeker within the diversity of the
crowd travels in his own land, and the diversity of the horizons
finds no way into the meditation cell of his inner self. This
treasure will manifest with difficulty at the beginning and with
no difficulty in the end. And in this tariqa it is the portion of the
beginning while in other paths it is at the end. This is so
because the treasure is derived from traveling within the self
(with presence in the moment), which is at the beginning of this
path, while traveling on the horizons takes place
simultaneously. This is the opposite of the other paths which
make the traveling on the horizons the beginning and the
traveling within the self the end."
In the words of al-Kharraz: "Perfection is not in exhibitions
of miraculous powers, but perfection is to sit among people,
sell and buy, marry and have children; and yet never leave the
27

presence of Allah even for one moment."

5.Remembrance (Yad kard)
Concentration on Divine Presence.
For the Naqshbandiyya remembrance is practiced in the silent
dhikr.Keep God, the Beloved, always in your heart. Let your prayer,
dhikr, be the prayer of your heart.
20

According to Khwaja Ubaydullah Ahrar, "the real meaning of

dhikr is inward awareness of God. The purpose of dhikr is to
attain this consciousness." The purpose of the dhikr is to keep
one's heart and attention entirely focused on the Beloved in
love and devotion.
The dhikr is not just repeated as words, but is in the heart.
Remembrance of the tongue becomes remembrance of the
heart. Abdu'l-Qadir al-Gilani said: "At the first stage one recites
the name of God with one's tongue; then when the heart
becomes alive one recites inwardly. At the beginning one
should declare in words what one remembers. Then stage by
stage the remembrance spreads throughout one's being—
descending to the heart then rising to the soul; then still further
it reaches the realm of the secrets; further to the hidden; to the
most hidden of the hidden."
6.Returning (from distraction), Going Back (Baz gasht)
Travel one way.The return to God. Single-minded pursuit of
divine truth.

This means banishing and dispelling every thought, good or

bad, that comes to mind involuntarily during the dhikr. When
performing the remembrance the heart is required to attain the
calm contentment of: “Oh Allah, my goal is You and Your good
pleasure; it is nothing else!” So long as there is any space left in
the heart for other interests, such calm contentment cannot
take shape, and the remembrance cannot be genuine. Even
21

if this
22

tranquility cannot be attained at the outset, one must not

abandon the remembrance, and it is necessary to persist in its
performance until this feeling is acquired.

The meaning of baz gasht is the return to Allah Exalted and

Almighty by showing complete surrender and submission to His
Will, and complete humbleness in giving Him all due praise. The
reason, mentioned by the Holy Prophet in his invocation, ma
dhakarnaka haqqa dhikrika ya Madhkar (“We did not
Remember You as You Deserve to be Remembered, O Allah”), is
that the seeker cannot come to the presence of Allah in his
dhikr, and cannot manifest the Secrets and Attributes of Allah in
his dhikr, if he does not make dhikr with Allah's support and
with Allah's remembrance of him. As Bayazid Bistami (d. 874)
said: “When I reached
23

Him I saw that His remembering of me preceded my

remembrance of Him.” The seeker cannot make dhikr by
himself.
He must recognize that Allah is the one making dhikr through
Him.

“Beloved, you and your approval are my purpose and desire.”

This attitude will rid one of impure thoughts and distractions. It
relates to the path of absorption. One Sufi was concerned that
he was not sincere, and was ashamed. So his sheikh took him to
a Sufi who was on the path of absorption, and this sheikh told
him that absorption, not hair-splitting, would free him from his
problem. The wayfarer realized that in his worry about his
dishonesty and shame, his wants and needs, he had been
focused on himself, separating himself from his Beloved.

According to Khwaja Ahrar, the saying “returning” means

that we have within us the goal of our striving. The seeds of
transformation are sown in us from above and we have to
treasure them above all possessions.
7. Attentiveness (Nigah dasht)
Struggle with all alien thoughts. Be always mindful of what
you are thinking and doing, so that you may put the imprint of
your immortality on every passing incident and instance of your
daily life.
Be watchful. Be aware of what catches your attention. Learn to
withdraw your attention from undesirable objects. This is also
24

expressed as "be vigilant in thought and remember yourself."

Nigah means sight. It means that the seeker must watch his
heart and safeguard it by preventing bad thoughts from
entering. Bad inclinations keep the heart from joining with the
Divine.
It is acknowledged in the Naqshbandiyya that for a seeker to
safeguard his heart from bad inclinations for fifteen minutes is
a great achievement. For this he would be considered a real
Sufi. Sufism is the power to safeguard the heart from bad
thoughts and protect it from low inclinations. Whoever
accomplishes these two goals will know his heart, and whoever
knows his heart will know his Lord. The Holy Prophet has said,
"Whoever knows himself knows His Lord."
25

Sa'd ud-Din Kashgari said: "The seeker must, for one hour or
two or whatever he is capable of, hold onto his mind and
prevent thoughts of other [than God] entering." Another
description from the Munahej ul-Sair has it that: "[Nigah dasht
is the] guarding of the special awareness and presence which
have resulted from the noble dhikr, so that remembering of
anything other than the Real does not find its way into the
heart/mind."
Yet others have written that nigah dasht also applies to
the time of the dhikr itself: "Nigah dasht is when the seeker at
the time of the dhikr holds his heart/mind upon the meaning of
LA ILAHA ILLA 'LLAH so that thoughts do not find entrance into
his heart, because if thoughts are in the mind then the result of
the dhikr, meaning presence of the heart/mind, will not
manifest." It has also been said, "Nigah dasht is an expression
meaning the prevention of the occurance of thought at the
time one is occupied with [repeating] the fragrant sentence [of
LA ILAHA ILLA 'LLAH]."
Abdul Majid Il Khani said that the meaning of preserving the
heart/mind from incoming thoughts is that they lose their hold
on the mind. In this connection Khwaja Ubaydullah Ahrar said:
"The meaning of preserving the mind [from thoughts] is not
that the seeker can avoid thoughts at the beginning [of his
attempts], but rather that thoughts do not disturb the
attendance and presence[required for the dhikr]. [Thoughts]
can be likened to straw which has fallen onto moving water and
yet the water is not prevented from its course. 'Abd ul-Khaliq
26

Ghujduwani said: "It isn't so that thoughts never enter the

heart/mind, but rather
27

that at times they do and at times they do not." His statement

seems to be supported by Khwaja 'Ala al-Din al-'Attar who
reported: "Succeeding with thoughts is difficult or even
impossible. I preserved my heart for twenty years from
thoughts, after which they would still appear but they then
found no hold there."

8.Continued Remembrance / Perpetual Invocation (Yad dasht)

Constant awareness in the presence of God. "The complete
experience of divine contemplation, achieved through the
action of objective love."
28

Those on the path maintain that when inner love is always

present in one's dealings with the world, then one has achieved
this mindfulness.
This is the last stage before transformation is completed. The
seeker becomes aware that his loss of "self" will be
compensated by objective love. The humiliation (abnegation of
self) that leads to this stage ceases to touch the seeker for he
discovers the unlimited joy that Truth will bring.
Yad dasht refers to the durability of the awareness of the Real
in the path of "tasting" (living in the multiplicity of illusion). In
the Rashahat-i 'ain al-Hayyat it is stated: "Some have said that
this is a perceiving/witnessing which is the domination of
witnessing the Real in the heart through essential love."
Ubaydullah Ahrar said: "Yad dasht is an expression meaning
the durability of the awareness of the Glorious Real." He said
further: "It means presence [with God] without disappearance."
Regarding the use of the term for the period of the dhikr
itself it has been said: "Yad dasht is that which the dhakir
(person practicing dhikr) during the dhikr maintains [fully the
meaning of] negation and affirmation in his heart in the
presence of the Named."
Khwaja Ubaydullah Ahrar has described the principles five
through eight as following each other in this manner: "Yad kard
(Remembrance) refers to the work of invoking/remembering.
Baz gasht(Returning) means turning to the High Real in the
manner that when saying the fragrant sentence of the dhikr the
29

seeker follows this in his heart with "God you are my true goal!"
and nigah dasht(Attentiveness) is the holding on to this
turning [to the Real] without words. Yad dasht
(Recollection) means constancy/firmness in [the holding on of]
nigah dasht (Attentiveness)."

9. Awareness of One's State of Mind / Time (Wuquf-i-zamani)

Baha ad-din Naqshband said that this consciousness is the
maker and guide of the disciple. It means to be attentive to
one's state of mind at any given moment and to know whether
it is a cause for giving thanks or for repenting.
30

It means: To keep account of one's temporal states. To

distinguish presence, huzur, from absence, ghaflat. Baha ad-din
described this as "self- possession" or "mindfulness." He added
that one should always be grateful when one returns to a state
of presence.
In wuquf-i-zaman the seeker remains constantly aware of his
changing states. Baha ad-din Naqshband explained: "Wuquf-i-
zamani is the work of the traveler on the Way: to be attentive
of his state, and to know whether it is a cause for giving thanks
or for repenting, to give thanks while feeling spiritual elation,
and to repent while in spiritual dryness or contraction."
He also stated: "The foundation of the work of the seeker has
been established in the awareness of time [exercise] as seeing
at each moment whether the perceiver of breaths is [breathing]
with presence or with forgetfulness."
Maulana Yaqub Charkhi, in his Explanation of the Names of
Allah, said: "Khwaja [Naqshband] instructed that in the state of
qabz (contraction) one should seek God's forgiveness, whereas
in the state of bast (expansion) one should offer thanks. Close
observation of these two states constitutes wuquf-i-zamani."
Wuquf-i- zamani of the Naqshbandi path is equivalent to the
term "mohasseba"(keeping account of/close observation) used
by other Sufis.
Jami, in the Resalah-i-nuria, said:"Wuquf-i-zamani is a term
meaning the keeping account of the times one passes in [a
state of] dispersal (tafriqah) or collectedness (jam'iyyat)."
31

10. Awareness of Number (Wuquf-i-adadi)

An expression meaning the observation of the number of
individual repetitions of the dhikr. Jami said: "Wuquf-i-adadi is
the observation of the number of dhikrs and of whether this
[observation] yields results or not." According to Baha ad-din
Naqshband, "The observation of the number of repetitions of
the dhikr of the heart is for gathering thoughts/mental activity
which are scattered."
According to Khwaja 'Ala al-Din al-'Attar, "The important
thing is not the number of repetitions but rather the
composure and awareness with which one makes them."
32

According to Baha ad-din Naqshband, this awareness is the

first stage of entry into the spiritual world.
This could also mean that for beginners, reading about the
achievements and states of consciousness demonstrated by
those advanced in this practice would be helpful, since in
reading about another's state of nearness, one acquires a
certain quality of inner inspiration.
For advanced disciples, this technique, which facilitates the
initial stages of acquiring inner intuition and inspiration, brings
a consciousness of the unity of diversity:

This diversity and proliferation is all but a

show, The One is manifest in the all.
Diversity, if you look with open eyes, is naught but unity. No
doubts for us, though there might be in some minds. Though
appearance is in numbers, the substance is but one.
(It should be noted that inner inspiration, that understanding
which brings the practitioner and people on the path closer to
higher teachings, comes through divine grace and is not due to
mind discoveries. "Knowledge comes from grace. The
difference between divine inspiration and divine knowledge is
that divine knowledge comes through internalizing the light of
the Essence and the divine attributes, while divine inspiration is
gained through receptivity to inner meanings and those types
of instructions which manifest within the practitioner.")
33

11. Awareness of the Heart (Wuquf-i-qalbi)

The heart becomes aware of God. This marks the awakening
of divine love. The individual becomes aware that his existence
is an obstacle to his final transformation and he no longer fears
to sacrifice it because he sees for himself that he will gain
infinitely more than he loses.
Wuquf-i-qalbi has been described as having two meanings. One
is that the seeker's heart in the midst of the dhikr is conscious
and aware of the Real. On this point Khwaja Ubaydullah Ahrar
said: "Wuquf-i-qalbi is an expression meaning an
34

awareness and presence of heart toward the Most High Real

felt in such a manner that the heart feels no need of anything
except the Real." This meaning is similar to that of yad dasht.
Heart consciousness means heart's resting with the Beloved,
as if nothing and no one else existed.
The other meaning is that there is awareness of the heart
itself. In other words, the seeker during the time of the dhikr is
attentive to the cone-shaped heart which is the "seat of
subtlety," and prevents it from becoming unaware during the
saying of the dhikr.
Baha ad-din Naqshband did not consider it necessary to hold
the breath during the dhikr as is done in some tariqas, even
though he considered that practice to have its benefits; nor did
he consider essential the wuquf-i-zamani and wuquf-i- adadi
(awareness of time and awareness of number). But
according to the Qodsîyyah he considered "the observance of
wuquf-i-qalbi the most important and necessary because it is
the summary and essence of the intention of the dhikr."
Like an expecting mother-bird, sit watchfully on the egg of
your heart, Since from this egg will result your drunkenness,
self-abandoned, uproarious laughter and your final union.

When Hazrat Shah Naqshband was a young

man, he went to Makkahtul Mukarrama to perform
his obligatory pilgrimage. When he arrived, he was
met by Hazrat Khizr (may Allah be pleased with
him), who blessed him with his teachings and
granted him a new cane as a gift. In Bukhara, this
cane grew into a beautiful tree that gave shade to
the area around Shah Naqshband's tomb for
hundreds of years.

The verse Fateha (The opening)

It is difficult Your praise and hidden Your virtues
You are visible there and You are in everything
Every particle, you created from beginning to end
You are Sustainer of this word and in another world
You are Lord of the worlds and forgiver of worlds
You are kind and Your favor is there for all persons
For pious persons, You are kind and merciful to all
Your favor and kindness is there for all of them
You are the owner who settles deeds upon death
In your kind hands, the penalty and a prize is there
All our worship is for You. Oh Lord of two worlds
All slaves big or small belong to you from the origin
For our needs, your personality is and must for us
You give all one who calls you as You are a helper
Guide us right path on which path who went away

With Your graces and went away on such path indeed

But there will be no such way, which is ignored by You
Which misguide persons in such way due to your anger
This is the prayer of your slave and you kindly accept
caller’s prayer as you are the owner of the 2 worlds

Introduction

PRAISE be to God who made love the foundation of the world;

God Himself was the first lover for He loved the Prophet,
Muhammad. Praise be to the Prophet whom God hath raised
from the dust of the earth to great dignity.

The prophet of the Islam has explained orders and issues of

the Islamic religion to his companions and from them, orders
and issues of the Islamic religion were reached to Taibin (Those
who saw him but held off believing in him until after his passing
are not considered ṣahābah but tābiʻūn.). And from these order
and issues were learned by Tabih Taibin (successors to the holy
prophet’s companion)
When Islamic religion went outside of the boundaries of the
Arabian peninsula then there were endeavors of preachers of
Islamic religion which were become successful. After Tabiun
then Taba Tabiun fulfilled their duties well in this matter. After
that this duty was fall on the shoulder of Islamic learned
persons, jurists, imams (leaders), and persons of Quran
exegesis. Holy persons of Allah and as well as pious persons.
And they have not shown any negligence in their duties. And
they have shown the right path to the Muslim nation.

Hazrat Junaid of Baghdad is also included among such
genius learned and holy persons and he has performed his
duties to the Muslim nation well. And by living in his company
11

many thousand students of reality were able to reach their

destination.
Hazrat Junaid is also the founder of his spiritual chain of
Junaid. And he was well known and genius famous personality
for his worship and mystical exercise. He has complete
knowledge of manifest in the service of his uncle Hazrat Sirri
Saqti. And when he has finished knowledge of manifest then he
was become his disciple and afterward he has started stages of
mysticism and he was obtained robe of honor and caliphate
from him. Then Hazrat Sirri Saqti was told that “If anybody
wants to see any disciple who is superior to his master then he
can see Junaid of Baghdad.”
Hazrat Junaid has obtained favour from a large number of
genius holy persons of Allah. And they were in many thousands
and who were reached to the higher status of the saintliness.
There are many of excellence and quality of Hazrat Junaid of
Baghdad and aim of compiling a book of 100 events of Junaid of
Baghdad” is that to know his different aspect of biography and
to act upon them. In the last, there is pray in the court of Allah
is that to accept the endeavors of this lowest person. May Allah
give us divine instruction to become true and sincere Muslims.
(Amen)

1.The meaning of his name Junaid

Hazrat Junaid of Baghdadi’s holy name is Junaid. His father
and his mother upon the advice of his uncle Sirri Saqti was
given his name as Junaid and which was the name of his
grandfather.
The meaning of the name of Junaid is a small army group.
And this name became a blessing for him. His name was among
the names of the persons of Almighty Allah who have done
endeavors of the teaching and propagation as well as for the
progress of the Islamic religion. And he was accepted in the
court of Allah and he became famous and well known among
the people as Syed al-Taifa ( group leader).

2. He was said the phrases about the Islamic faith

Hazrat Junaid was very intelligent since his birth time and
Allah has given him skills. It is said that once he was returned
back from the school to his house and he was seen his father in
weeping condition. And he has asked him the reason for his
weeping then he has told him that “ I am weeping because
today I have sent some dirhams of Zakat (According to Islam,
Zakat is meant to be paid in order to purify the wealth. )
amount in the presence of your uncle Sirri Saqti but he has
refused to accept these dirhams. Today there was realization
with me that I have spent my whole life for obtaining such
13

wealth and such money which is not liked by the friends of

Almighty Allah.”
Upon this, he has taken those dirhams and went in the
presence of his uncle Sirri Saqti. And he told him “ Oh dear
uncle accept these dirhams and as the Almighty Allah has given
you holiness and excellence. And to my father, Allah has given
him divine help for justification. And I ask you for the
intercession of the above matter.”Sirri Saqti told him to inform
him “Which excellence Almighty was given to me and which
justification was given to your father.”Hazrat Junaid told that “
Allah has given you indigence and other than this there is no
excellence and he has given his divine help to my father for
sending the rights due to its rightful person. And what is more
than this justification.? When Sirri Saqti has heard his phrases
of faith and so he was much happy in this matter and he has
accepted the dirhams.”

3. What is such deed which keeps your sleep away from eyes.?

This event was said by Abul Hussain Haleem that he was

heard by Hazrat Junaid who said that “Once he was present in
the meeting of Hazrat Sirri Saqti in which there present many
pious persons at that time and I was small among all of them as
per my age. And Hazrat Sirri Saqti was asked with all of them
“What is such deed which keeps your sleep away from eyes.?.”
Hazrat Junaid said that every person told in this matter as per
his skill and somebody told that due to hunger sleep can go
away from the eyes. And another holy person told by drinking
less water in a quantity of sleep can go away from the eyes.
14

When all persons have said their opinions then there came his
turn so I told that “It to be known by heart that Allah know
conditions of all persons and he knew what has acquired by
persons?.”
Hazrat Junaid said that and when Hazrat Sirri Saqti heard his
reply then he told that “What good reply you have given”

4.What is the concept of thankfulness
Hagiography
As to the hagiography by Attar of Nishapur, the Tazkirat al-
Awliya, had felt the pain of divine separation since childhood.
Regardless of spiritual sorrow, he was known for his quick
understanding and discipline. When Sirri Saqti accepted him.
According to Attar, Junayd was only seven years of age when
Sirri Saqti took him along for the Hajj. In al-Masjid an-Nabawi,
there were 400 sheiks discussing the concept of ‘thankfulness’
whereby each expounded his own view. When Sirri Saqti told
him to present his definition, Junayd said, "Thankfulness means
that should not disobey God by means of the favour which he
has bestowed upon you nor make of His favour a source of
disobedience." The sheiks unanimously agreed that no other
words could define the term better. Sirri Saqti asked Junayd
from where he learned all this.? Junayd replied, "From sitting
with you.”

The above event added in this book as follows.

There will be usually sitting of learned persons with Sirri
Saqti and there will be a continuation of discussion always with
15

him. And at that time Hazrat Junaid was seven years old and he
was playing in the courtyard. All learned persons have told their
opinions about thankfullness as per their skill and knowledge
but its real meaning was not cleared in this matter. Hazrat Sirri
Saqti who was called Hazrat Junaid and asked him “My son tell
what is meaning of the thankfulness of Allah.”
All learned persons were surprised that how small boy can
explain the meaning of thankfulness of Allah. Then Hazrat
Junaid has given such reply and which was comprehensive and
so for all learned persons have praised him very much. And he
said that “ When there will be given grace by Allah then at that
time men should not involve in disobedience of Allah.”
Upon hearing the meaning of thankfulness of Allah by Hazrat
Junaid then all learned people were said in one tone that the
“Description of the thankfulness of Allah is really in its correct
meaning.”

  5. The prayer of Hazrat Haris Mahasibi

Hazrat Junaid said that when he leaves from Hazrat Sirri

Saqti then he used to go to see Hazrat Haris Mahasibi. And one-
day Sirri Saqti asked him “ Where do you go from here.?” I told
him that “ I used to go in the service of Hazrat Haris Mahasiibi.”
He told him that “ Yes it is good that you obtain from him
knowledge and literature. But he has an interest in knowledge
of conversation and has a habit of dialectic work with him. So
you keep safe from him in these two things.”
One day when I was leaving from Haris Mahasibi then he has
prayed for me that Almighty Allah made you a learned person
16

of Hadith (Hadith is an Arabic word, which literally means a

statement, talk, story, conversation, or communication. It
also means new. “Hadith is a talk and which may be brief or
elaborated.” Technically Hadith means the narration of the
sayings, doings, or approvals (Taqrir) of Muhammad (peace be
upon him).) first then made you Sufi person later. May Allah
keeps you safe from making first Sufi person then afterward
learned of Hadith.”
6. The advice of the prophet to Junaid Baghdad for advice

During the life period of Hazrat Sirri Saqti, the disciple have
asked Junaid Baghdadi for advice so that there will be peace in
their hearts. He told them that “Till his spiritual master Sirri
Saqti is living in the world and he is on his post then he will not
give them advice.” One night he has seen the prophet in his
dream and told him that “ Oh Junaid why do you not advise the
people? and by your intercession, there will be salvation to a
large number of the persons.”
When Hazrat Junaid was wake up then he began thinking
that his position was merged in the position of his spiritual
master. And due to this reason the prophet was given me an
order for the teaching and advice. In the morning Hazrat Sirri
Saqti has sent one of his disciples in the presence of Hazrat
Junaid and he told that person that when Junaid will finish his
prayer then tell him that “ You have not started teaching and
preaching as per request of your disciples nor upon
recommendation of the learned persons of the Baghdad. As
well as you have not performed this duty as per my instruction.
17

As now there is the order of the prophet so obey his order in

this matter.”
When he has got the message of his spiritual master then
he was said that “ My spiritual master knows the condition of
my heart well. And he knows my manifest and innermost. And
his position is more than mine. He knows my condition but I
was not aware of his condition. Then I went into the presence
of my spiritual master and repentance in this matter. And he
told him “ How do you know my condition that I have seen the
prophet into my dream.” And he told that he was seen Allah in
his dream and who told me that we have sent the prophet into
the dream of Junaid so that he can tell Junaid to teach and
advice to the people. So that there fulfill he desires of the
people of Baghdad.”

7. The wisdom of the Muslim

It is said that one fire worshipper went in the dress of
Muslim in the presence of Hazrat Junaid and he has asked with
him what is meaning of the saying of the prophet “ To safe from
the wisdom of the Mulsim as he saw from the light of Almighty
Allah.”
And he told him that “ Its meaning is that you should become
a Muslim person.” Upon hearing the saying of Hazrat Junaid he
became his follower and he was become Muslim in his hand by
reciting phrases of Islamic creed at the same time.

8. He has found reality in the streets of Madina

18

Hazrat Nizamuddin Aluliya said that “Hazrat Junaid said that

he has found reality in the streets of Madina.” And when he
asked how it is.? And he said that “One day he was going in the
bazaar of Madina and I have some poor persons there and their
poverty is such poor that it could not be described in this
matter. And due to this, there was mercy by me upon them and
I have decided to include myself in the company of them. So I
was lived some days in their company and was able to know
that really of Allah is with the poor persons. “

9.the status of Junaid is more than me

Hazrat Data Gunj Baksh said that “Hazrat Junaid is nephew

and disciple of Sirri Saqti. And one time the people of have
asked with Sirri Saqti whether there will be more status of the
disciple than his spiritual master.? ”
He said that “ Yes it is possible and its big proof is that status
of Junaid is more than mine.”

10.The crwon of pious persons

In the books of biographies, it is mentioned that in the

younger age Hazrat Junaid went to the Haj pilgrimage and
Hazrat Abu Baker Katani said that “During Hajj season there
was discussion about the topic of the love. There was
discussion by learned persons. Then some person told him that
19

“Oh Iraqi what do you say on this subject.?” And at that time he
was a young person.
Hazrat Abu Baker Katani said that “Hazrat Junaid get down
his head and tears began from his eyes. And he said that “That
person who is careless from himself and engage in
remembrance of Allah and fulfill duties of Almighty Allah. Then
he can observe by the eyes of his heart. And lights of Allah will
give life to his heart. And from the cup of love of Allah, his drink
will be pure. And there will be a revelation of the veil of
invisible upon him. And when he will speak then Almighty Allah
will also talk with him. And when he will move as per the order
of Allah. And when he will be silent then for the sake of Allah.
He will be there for Allah and Allah will be there in his
company .”
Hazrat Abu Baker Katani told that “Upon hearing the
definition of the love by Hazrat Junaid all learned persons told
in one tone that “ In it, there is no space to add a further
defination oh crown of pious persons, may Almighty Allah keep
your condition high.”

11.He used to perform 400 supererogatory prayers daily

Hazrat Junaid has followed the occupation of his ancestors

and whatever he will earn which he will be spent on his and
other person’s expenses. He has a business of silk cloth and so
for this reason he was well known as Ankhar. And he has his
one shop in the bazaar but in his business dealing and
engagement which could not keep him away from the
remembrance of Allah.
20

Hazrat Jafar Khuldi said there was his shop in the bazaar but
he used to perform 300 supererogatory prayers daily and recite
30,000 Subhan Allah.
Hazrat Ismail said that when Hazrat Junaid comes to the shop
then he will hang a curtain in his shop and used to perform 400
supererogatory prayers.

12. It was his practice to have beads always in his hand

It was his practice to have beads always in his hand and

Hazrat Junaid for his daily recital he used to have beads in his
hand.Somebody has asked him your honour inspite of your
knowledge and excellance you used to have beads in your
hand. Then he told him that “ We have found Allah with this so
we could not leave it.”

13.Checking of the soul

In the books of biographies, it is written that Hazrat Junaid

said that once he went on Jihad (Jihad (English: /dɪ
ˈhɑːd/; Arabic: ‫جه اد‬ jihād [dɪˈhaːd]) is an Arabic word which
literally means striving or struggling, especially with a
praiseworthy aim. In an Islamic context, it can refer to almost
any effort to make personal and social life conform with God's
guidance, such as the struggle against one's evil
inclinations, proselytizing, or efforts toward the moral
betterment of the ummah though it is most frequently
associated with war. In classical Islamic law, the term refers to
armed struggle against unbelievers, while modernist Islamic
21

scholars generally equate military jihad with defensive warfare.

In Sufi and pious circles, spiritual and moral jihad has been
traditionally emphasized under the name of greater jihad.) with
one army unit. The commander chief of the army has sent me
some money for my personal expenses but I did not like money
for personal expenses and this money I have distributed that
among the mujahedin.
Hazrat Junaid said that one time he was sitting in the
mosque after Zuhar prayer and there was a worry with me that
whether I have done any mistake by accepting that amount
even though I have spent that amount upon Islamic soldiers of
the army. And after Zuhar's prayer, there was such worry with
me so I was upset in this matter. And in such worry, I have slept
there and in the dream, I have seen that many large palaces
were being constructed there in which there were found all
facilities of the of life in all of them.
Junaid said that when I have asked these about palaces and I
was come to know that these villa buildings were constructed
for those persons who have spent their money given to them
on the way of Allah but they gave their share of the amount
among the Islamic soldiers of the army. I was happy very much
in this matter and I have asked whether there is any house for
him.? Upon this, they have shown me a big palace than all
other palaces which were available there. I was surprised and
asked why he was given such a big palace for me.?
It is was said that the people have spent money in the way of
Allah for reward but you have spent much money as explained
above in the way of Allah. And you have done checking of your
soul. And worried in this matter whether there will be accepted
22

or not his money in the court of Allah.? So you have been given
a double reward in this matter.”

14.The martyrdom of newly converted Muslim

Hazrat Junaid was reached on the war front of Rome along

with his eight disciples there with aim of Jihad and his disciples
were got the position of martyrdom upon showing their bravely
and gallantry on the battlefield.
Hazrat Junaid said that he was seen nine litters in the sky.
When there will be martyrdom of my disciples then the angel
takes him in the litter to the sky side. There were went away 8
litters in the sky and there was remained one litter still in the
sky. And which I thought for myself upon my martyrdom. Still,
there was this thinking with me then at that time one Roman
person came before me and he has requested me to recite him
Islamic creed and make Mulsim and he told me also that to
keep remain 9th litter for him. And he told me to return back
from here and engage in the work of teaching advice to the
people. Then that Roman Muslim person went to the battlefield
and fought bravely in the war and by killing 8 Roman soldiers he
was martyred. I have seen that that 9th litter which was waiting
for that pious soul and angels which taken his soul in the litter
and went toward the sky.
15.Repentance of backbiting and fault-finding

If there will be any mistake by Hazrat Junaid which will be

removed by Almighty Allah. Hazrat Junaid said that one day he
23

was sitting in the mosque Shunaza. And waiting for the funeral
there. And with there was sitting some persons of Baghdad.
During this time I have seen one fakir person by seeing him, it
was known that he is pious and worshipper. But he was
spreading his hand before the persons there. So I thought it
was better if he has worked with his hand.
Hazrat Junaid said that “When came from there and it was
night time and after that, I was engaged in my daily recitals and
the daily round of practice then I was engaged in the worship of
supererogatory prayers. But that night I felt all this worship
very hard and difficult. And I was sat for a long time in the
wake-up condition and there was prevailed upon me sleepy
condition. And I have slept and I have seen that fakir person in
my dream which was asking money with the people. I have
seen that there was spread along eating carpet there and then
it was asked that fakir person sits on it. Then there was given
me the order to eat the flesh of that fakir person. As you have
done backbiting of that fakir person.”
In the dream, it was revealed upon me that and I have
told that I have never done backbiting of that Fakir person. But
there was such thinking in my mind in this matter. And there
came one invisible call in which it was told that “ You are not
among such persons that their ordinary things which may be
accepted as likeness and you go and ask forgiving with fakir
person.”
Hazrat Junaid said in the morning he went to search for that
fakir person and found him at one place where vegetables are
washed by water and there will be fallen leaves by this work
and which he was collecting those fallen leaves from the earth
24

there. I said salam to him and he has replied to my salam and

told me that “ Oh Abdul Qasim whether do you commit such
mistake again. And point out fault-finding in the slaves of
Allah.”
Hazrat Junaid said that “I have repented from backbiting and
fault-finding of any person from that time.”

16. The correct method of performing the Hajj pilgrimage

One person came into the presence of Hazrat Junaid and he

has asked from where he is coming.? He told him that “He is
coming from Makkah after performing Hajj pilgrimage.” He told
him “Whether you have performed Hajj pilgrimage then he has
said “Yes.” And he has asked him that “When you have started
Hajj pilgrimage journey whether you have left sins or not,”?
And he told him that “ No.” Then he told him that “You did not
travel from your place to Makkah”.Again he has asked him
“When you have travel on the journey and you have stayed in
the night in every destination. Whether you have crossed any
destination of reality.? “And he told him “No.”When you have
worn (Ahram) Hajj dress from Meqat whether you have left
humanly attributes. And that person told “ No.”Then he told
him that “ Then you have not to wear Ahram”.Then he asked
him “When you have stood in the plain of Arafat whether you
have felt the presence of your existence in the place of
observation.” And he told No”.He told him that “Then you have
not stood in the plain of Arafat. He has asked him “When your
reached Muzdalfa and got your aim and have you left all your
wishes.?” He told him that “No.” So he told him that “You have
25

not stayed in Muzdalfa.” He has asked him “When you did the
circumambulation of holy Kaba whether you have found Allah
from all defects. And at this place have you observed elegance
of the majestic of Allah.” He told “No.” He told him that “ You
have done not circumambulation of the “holy Kaba in
Makkah.” He asked with him “When you did Sai (Sa’i is the
ritualistic walking between the two mountains of Safa and
Marwah which are the symbols of Allah. This is a ritual common
to both the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage.)
It is a Sunnah to perform Tawaf between them (As-Safa and

status of kindness.” And he told him ” No”. He told him that”
You have not performed Sai in between the mountain of Safa
and Marawah ”. Then he has asked him “When you have
reached Muna whether all your wishes were finished away or
not.?” And he told him “No”. Then he has asked, “When you
have sacrificed the animal whether you have also sacrificed the
sensual desires ”?.He told him”No.” “So you have not sacrificed
your animal.” Again he has asked “When you have thrown
pebbles at the Satan whether you have thrown pebbles on your
sensual desires.?” He told him “No.” Hazrat Junaid told him that
“You did not throw pebbles on the Satan nor you have got the
facility of Hajj pilgrimage. You go back and perform the Hajj

with the Satan. Afterward one day I was standing near the door
of one mosque and that there was seen one old person who
was coming toward him. When I have seen his face then there
was an abomination for me. When he came near me then I
have asked him “Oh old man who are you.? And I do not have
in my eyes the power to see your scornful face. And I am
feeling due to your presence is severe worries with me. “Hazrat
Junaid said that that person told me that “ I am the same Satan
which you have the desire to see by you.” Hazrat Junaid told
him “ Oh unlucky person who has stopped you to prostrate
before Hazrat Prophet Adam (A.S.).”
Satan told him “Oh Junaid what is your opinion whether I will
prostrate other than Allah?.”
Hazrat Junaid said that “ When Satan said this so I was
surprised in this matter. And I could not find any reply. And
during this time there was heard the invisible call in which it
was told: “Oh Junaid tell that unlucky person that he is a liar”.If
he was obedient then he would have not disobeyed my order.”
Hazrat Junaid said that “Satan was heard the voice which
was in my heart. And so by crying, he told me that “By swearing
in the name of Allah oh Junaid you have burnt down me.” Then
he was disappeared from there immediately.

Abul Hasan if there is any benefit in this loud and cry so that I
could engage in this loud and cry. And if you know there is any
benefit in it then bring your heart under the will of Allah. So
that there will be a comfort to your heart.”Upon saying of
Hazrat Junaid, Hazrat Abul Hasan has stopped loud and cry and
told him that “Oh Abul Qasim you are a great teacher and as
well as a good guide.”

In the presence of Hazrat Junaid some persons came and
asked his permission to demand sustenance. And he told that “
If you know where is the sustenance of the persons then
demand it.” They have asked whether can we demand from
Almighty Allah. Hazrat Junaid told them that “If you think that
Almighty Allah has ignored this then must remind him.” When
they have heard Hazrat Junaid’s conversation then they told
him that
“Whether they sit in the house and have trust in Allah. “Then
he told them that “To check to deal of the Allah which is like

Then they have asked him “What source they should

adopt.” And Hazrat Junaid told “The source is that you leave
the source.”

Picture of the babul tree

29

When I have reached near him and found that young man who
was searching for reality. I told him that “ The persons are
coming and going but you are sitting in your place so what is
the reason in this matter.?”
Hazrat Junaid said that “ By the sad look he was seen toward
me and he told by expressing his sadness that there was
prevailed such condition upon me but when I have reached
here then that condition was finished away from me. Now I am
sitting here in search of that condition.” I have heard the talk of
the young man and went away on my journey. When I have
come back from the Hajj pilgrimage journey and found that
young man who was sitting at the place which was away from
the previous place where he was sitting. And upon his face,
there was found happiness instead of sadness. I have reached
near him and asked him.” Why now you are sitting at this
place.” That young man told with much happiness that” I have
found my lost thing here. And now I am sitting here at this
place by breaking my foot.”

his group to send along with him. Then he has asked him what
is your aim in this matter.”
30

He told him that “He will give him food and he will pass
sometime in his company.”Then he has seen all four sides and
he has seen one darwesh person on whose face there was an
indication of hunger and starvation. He told him that “You go
with him and favour him by your company and benefit by his
service of the host.”
Upon hearing the instruction of Hazrat Junaid that darwesh
went along with that person and that darwesh person was very

that darwesh came back from there and sat in one corner of

he went into the presence of Hazrat Junaid and told him that “
Darwesh came back without eating any loaf from my house.”
And upon hearing his conversation he told him that “ You have
told him something to darwesh person otherwise he will not
cause hurt of the host.”
That person told him “ Your honour I did not tell him so there
will not cause him to hurt his habit in this matter.” When Hazrat
Junaid heard that person’s conversation then he was going
toward the shrine and he was seen darwesh person in one
corner. And he has asked that darwesh the reason for his
coming back without eating and drink from the house of his
host. And that person upon hearing Hazrat Junaid’s
conversation told him that “ Your honour I am a destitute and
starved person from Kufa. And I came in your presence to
explain my condition to you but due to humility, I could be told
to you. Then you was able to know my condition and you asked
me to go to the house of that person. I was happy in my heart
and went with that person. That person put eating carpet in the
31

house with much arrangement. And he has given one loaf to

me and told me that this loaf is dear to him more than 10,000
dirhams and when I heard this then I was able to know that this
host belongs worldly person. And he likes to show and display.
So for this reason I was stood from eating carpet without eating
food and drink from there.”
Hazrat Junaid when heard this from darwesh then he told him
that “ I told you that surely you have done something which
harms him to his nature in this matter.” And so, for this reason,
that person put down his head due to regret. Hazrat Junaid told
him that “ If you have the ability to give food to a darwesh
person then first learn manners of the hospitality.”
Hazrat Junaid upon seeing that person in the condition of

she does not have control in this matter so your honour prays
in the court of Almighty Allah.”

worries of the woman then he told her that “ You go to your
house as your son has already reached there.”
Hazrat Abdullah Almakasi said that when the woman went to
her house and she was surprised to see that her son was
already there in the house. Then she came again in the service

has said this matter by me then I can dictate you whatever I
have told you and this is created by Almighty Allah in my heart.
And which is said by my tongue. And this knowledge is not
related to teaching and advice but this is the special favour of
Almighty Allah. And which revealed toward me and then
phrases are told by my tongue.”
It was the practice of Hazrat Junaid Baghdadi that if he will
face any issue then he will return to the court of Allah. Hazrat
Faras Baghdadi told that Hazrat Junaid told that “Whenever he
will be asked about knowledge of reality and if there will be no
power to reply in this matter by him then he will ask the
questioner to wait for some time.”

are saying he is lost. As per the fact, Mansour is lost and
Almighty Allah is found everywhere and he is Baqi (there).”

Hazrat Junaid when heard Mansour’s conversation and he said

that “Soon there will come a time when you will color the plank
of the hanging with your blood.”

experience and observation and he left by expressing his dis-
appointment from there. By leaving from there he told his
disciples and servants that if you want the safety of eyes of
your spiritual master then advise him not to do ablution with
water.”
Upon going of the Christian doctor disciples and servants
went into his service and told him that “Your honour there is

such and such jungle some persons are drinking wine and for
them, there is nobody to prohibit in this matter.” When he
heard his conversation then he stood from there and by
covering his face in his coverlet he went toward the jungle.
42

When the wine drinkers have seen him then they began
running from there but he was called them to stop so they stay
there. And he told them” Do not run from here. I am also from
you. can bring me wine. We can not drink wine in the city. So by

city.”
Hazrat Junaid told them that “There is no matter but
whether do you know some art by which wine should reach
before you.” They told him that “ They do not know any skill in
this matter. Hazrat Junaid told him that “I will teach this art by
which wine will reach in your presence automatically. And you

live in heaven”.And there was one camel with that group of
persons. When that disciple was heard glad tiding of that group

camel was taken him to one place in which there were many
gardens in it. There were many beautiful persons were there. In
every side, there were running canals. The best and tasty food
dishes were found around his all sides. When he was in this
scene then he was very much happy there and he has spent all
that night in that place. And in the morning time, he was found
himself in his room. This matter happened to him for some days

his condition to other persons and he began claiming himself as
a perfect holy person. And the persons began becoming his
devotees for this reason.

recite 3 times as follows .”
La Hawla Wa La Quwwata illa BillAhil Aliyyil Azeem

strength except with Allah)

Upon saying this Hazrat Junaid Baghdad left from his place.
When there was nightfall as per his practice at midnight same

to the disciple from Hazrat Junaid of Baghdad. But try to check
his saying he was recited 3 times
La Hawla Wa La Quwwata illa BillAhil Aliyyil Azeem
The meaning of this phrase (there is no power and no
strength except with Allah)

here.”
When the people have asked reason then he told them that

person from you as who was not belongs to you.”

Hazrat Shibli was governor of Nahvand before his entry into
Sufism.
One time Abbasi caliph of Baghdad Mutaqad Billa was
organized one feast in his palace. And he has invited all
sourrnding governors and rich persons in his palace. All
governors and e were present in the palace. And there seemed

nose. He did not have a handkerchief with him so in hurry, he

the caliph has seen the governor’s action and he was become
angry and dismissed him from the post of the governor for this
reason. And was taken back from his robe of honour and he has

Baghdad and told him that “ You have one pearl with you
52

whether you will sell it or give to me free of cost.” And he told

him that “If he wants to sell you then you will not able to buy it
and if I will give you free of cost then you will not able to know
its value.? As if anything which will get without endeavrours
then there will be no value for it with any person. And if you
want that priceless pearl then you drown into the sea of Tawhid
( tawḥīd, meaning "Unification or oneness of God as per Islam
Law of Allāh) and destroy yourself. Then Almighty Allah will
open door patience for you and wideness upon you. And at that
time there will be available in your power of patience and then

begging for the period of one year.
Hazrat Shibli as per the order of Hazrat Junaid began begging
in the daytime and whatever he will get in the begging he used
to give to poor and needy persons. And he used to engage in
starvation. In the begging work, he used to face very much
shame as the people know him very well that he was worked as
governor of Nahvand province and he did not need alms for
him. So they avoid giving him charities. But he did not lose his
53

heart and in spite of difficulty and refusal, he used to collect

some alms money. And he has complained with Hazrat Junaid
in this matter and who told him that “Now you able to know
well that there is no your position with the persons of the
world. So do not have your interest of heart with the world.”
During this period Hazrat Junaid has given new order to him
that as you have worked as governor of Nahvand so you have
done atractocites upon the people so go and meet every
person and regret in this matter. So he went to see every
person and regret in this matter. There was not found one
person there so he was given one lakh dirhams in charity for
sake of that person but there was not available peace to him.
He went in the presence of Hazrat Junaid and explained about
his condition of uneasiness and so Hazrat Junaid told him that

wealth. So you should engage in the begging work for one more
year. As per the order of Hazrat Junaid, he went out for begging
work. And he used to engage in the begging work whole day
and whatever he will get Hazrat Junaid will distribute among
poor and needy persons. And one year passed away then

company. And if you live in my company then it is compulsory
for you to do service of the Fakir persons”.Hazrat Shibli said

this matter then he has called him in his service and told him
that “The things which we were buried and for which you are
explaining the general persons in the open method.” He told
him that “He is explaining the reality and which is not mind by
the general persons. And my address is from the side of reality.
And it will return toward reality. And in fact, during this time
there will do not remain his existence.”When Hazrat Junaid
heard his conversation and he told him that “Your saying is
right but it is not proper for you to say such kind of the
sayings.”
One day wife of Hazrat Junaid was combing her hair in the
house and suddenly at that time Hazrat Shibli was entered his
house and she wants to go into the veil from him but Hazrat
Junaid told her that “There is no need in this matter as he is not
in normal condition. And during this period by putting his hands
on the head of Hazrat Junaid he began saying the following
couplets in Arabic and their meaning and translation are as
follows.
“ We made your habit of meeting and which is very sweet. And
then put me in the condition of separation and which is very
hard. When there will be a matter of anger then he said this is
your sin. And in the passion of love then there is no sin.”
55

When Hazrat Junaid has heard his couplets then he said that “
Shibli, Yes he is as such. When he was heard this he became
unconscious. And when he came back in normal condition then
he began weeping.”Hazrat Junaid told his wife to go in the veil
as he came back in normal condition.
One day Hazrat Abu Baker Shibli was in a condition of ecstasy
and he was looked in the condition of worries. And Hazrat
Junaid was seen him then told him that “ You surrender all your
works to Almighty Allah so that you can have wealth of peace
with you.”Then Shibli told him that “ He can get
peace when Almighty Allah will leave my works with me.”
When Hazrat Junaid Baghdadi heard his saying so he told that “
There is falling blood from the sword of Shibli.”
                      48. Allah is near the broken heart persons
Hazrat Junaid said that “He was seen Allah in the streets of
Madina city.”The people have asked how it is.? He said that
“One day he was going in the street of Madina city and I have
seen some poor persons there and on faces of them there was
evident their condition. And there came mercy upon them by
me. So there came a thought in my mind to leave some days
with them. Then I have lived in their company. And upon living
some days with them then I was come to know that Allah is
near the broken hearts. And there is the order of Allah is there
that he is near the broken heart persons.”

properties in the way of Allah and but he has kept one house.
He has given him an order to sell that house also and throw its

money in the river. And the disciple was followed his order and
he then did not separate him from him and lived always with
Shaikh Junaid. And in this way, he has got real aim.
