Argentina
I love reading Atlas books. Last night, I read about Argentina. Argentina is
situated in South America. The capital city is Buenos Aires. The meaning of Argentina is
“Land of Silver”, and the official language is Spanish. The national sport is “Pato”. It is a
game played on horseback that combines elements from polo and basketball. Pato is
Spanish for “duck”, as early games used a live duck inside a basket instead of a ball.
However, the most popular sport in Argentina is football. There are 23 provinces in
Argentina. Independence day is on 9 July. Cristina Kirchner is the first woman president
to be elected. Currently, there are 44.27 million people in Argentina. The official currency
is the Argentine Peso. The national drink is mate, and a traditional candy is “Dulce de
leche”. The Argentinian flag has got three horizontal stripes, two sky blue and one white.
There is a sun in the middle. The Cockade of Argentina is a round symbol that people use
at national celebrations. The national animal is the ovenbird and the national flower is the
ceibo. The coat of arms represents the union between the provinces.
