Research Instrument and Data Gathering

The researchers will use an online survey to collect data on how TikTok usage relates to academic performance and productivity among junior high school students learning online. The survey contains questions on respondents' profile, reasons for using TikTok, whether it provides academic knowledge, if it keeps students motivated for schoolwork, and if time spent on TikTok is beneficial. After getting approval from teachers, the researchers will send the survey link to class presidents to distribute to 12 randomly selected TikTok-using students per grade level. The respondents can complete the survey whenever free that day, and the researchers will then analyze the collected data.

Research Instrument

The instrument that will be used to collect data is online survey forms. This will be the

researchers’ instrument as they are currently in an online learning setup. Besides, it will be less

time-consuming than preparing an online meeting to interview the respondents as they lack time

in finishing their research. 

The researchers prepared their own questionnaires as they aligned them to their Statement of the

Problem and the amount of data they will get. The survey form consists of two parts. The first

part is entitled “Respondents’ Profile” as it contains the respondents’ age, grade level, and

learning modality; if they are online or modular learning. The second part is entitled “Relation of

TikTok to Productivity and Academic Performance” as it contains questions about their

experience in using TikTok in relation to their academic performance and productivity. 

The questionnaire will be then validate by their research teacher to use in gathering their data.

Data Gathering Procedure

Before selecting the respondents, the researchers will first give a letter of approval to advisory

teachers of Junior High School Students to identify the students who are using the TikTok

application.

After the validation of survey questionnaires the researchers will send the link of the survey form

to the class presidents per grade to give it to 12 randomly selected students who are using

TikTok. The respondents can answer the questionnaires whenever they are free within the day

that they received it.

The received data will be then analyzed and interpreted by the researchers.
