I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
a. Identify the parts of the bar graph.
b. Read and interpret data presented in a bar graph using title,
legend and label.
c. Construct a bar graph.
d. Appreciate the importance of bar graph.
II. Subject Matter
a. Topic: Bar Graph
b. Skills: Reading And Interpreting Bar Graphs
c. Reference: Mathematics for Better Life IV pp. 242 – 245
d. Materials: Power Point Presentation
III. Learning Activities
Teacher’s Activities Student’s Response
A. DAILY PRAYER
ROUTINE Before we go to our lesson. Let us pray
(student’s will remain quite
and will bow their head)
Father God
Come be with us today.
Fill our hearts with joy
Fill our minds with learning.
Fill our classrooms with peace.
Fill our lessons with fun.
Fill our friendships with kindness.
Fill our school with love.
Amen.
“AMEN” “AMEN”
GREETINGS
Okay, good morning class!
“good morning sir James”
Alright, you may now take your seat’
How are you today class?
“we’re good sir”
That’s great!
How’s your internet connection? “it’s good sir”
Can you all hear me clearly? “yes sir. loud and clear”
ATTENDANCE
Okay let us check first the attendance.
CABILLO?
CRISTI?
IBASCO?
LABANG?
ZONIO? “present”
B. RECALL Let’s have a recall with teacher Labang’s previous
lesson
Class, What was the topic that we discuss yesterday “ Line Graphs”
Very good!
What is a Line Graph? “A line graph is a type of
chart used to show
information that changes
over time. We plot line
graphs using several points
connected by straight lines.
We also call it a line chart.
The line graph comprises of
two axes known as ‘x’ axis
and ‘y’ axis.”
Very good!
What are the parts of a Line Graph?
TITLE : tells about the data
for each line graph is
plotted.
X-AXIS : tells about labels
on x-axis, which is generally
time.
Y-AXIS : tells about labels
on y-axis which is generally
a quantity in numbers
C. MOTIVATION Class, I want you to take a look at the chart
What the information given on the illustration?
Shape Distribution, Number
of Shapes, Shapes
What do we call this illustration?
Chart
Do you know how to use it?
No, Sir
Take a look at the shapes.
Are the shapes organize?
No they aren’t
D. ACTIVITY
Now we are going to organize it using Bar Graphs
We will have a group activity
I will group you into three.
Each group, I want you to choose your leader.
Group 1 will get the stars from the board
Group 2 will get the circle
Group 3 will get the square
Count the number of each shapes and we will shade
the number of each shape on the graph.
Is it clear class?
Alright let’s start. Yes sir, it is
E. ANALYSIS
Let us find out if your answer is correct.
Group 1. How many stars do you have?
5, sir.
Group 2. How many circles do you have?
7, sir.
9, sir
Group 3. How many squares do you have?
Yes, it is.
Is the chart correct?
Yes,
So, are the shapes on the board organize?
To organize something.
Therefore, What is the use of the graph?
Bar Graph
What kind of graph is this?
Very Good!
A Bar Graph uses bars of
different heights or lengths
What is a Bar Graph?
to show or compare
information.
Let us have another example:
Claire made a survey on the number of books read by
her friends during the year. She organized the data in
a table.
Name Number of books
read
Sarah 7
Rhia 5
Ivan 10
Jowen 7
No, we don’t
Do you know how to organize it using a bar graph?
These are the step to be followed in constructing a
bar graph.
Step 1. Find the greatest number in the data.
Step 2. Make a scale from 0 to the greatest number.
Step 3. Label the horizontal and vertical axis.
Step 4. Draw a bar to represent each data.
Step 5. Write a title for the graph.
Horizontal Bar Graph
What do we call this kind of Bar Graph
Yes, it is.
Is the information organized?
7
How many books did Sarah read?
5
How about Rhia?
10
Ivan?
7
Jowen?
Ivan
Who read the most number of books?
Sarah and Jowen
Who read the same number of books?
Rhia
Who read the less number of books?
Graph is used to organize
F. data.
What is the use of graphs?
ABSTRACTION
A Bar Graph uses bars of
different heights or lengths
Again, What is a Bar Graph? to show or compare
information.
Horizontal and Vertical Bar
Graphs.
What are the two types of Bar Graph?
Very Good!
Any question class?
G. APPLICATION Use the graph to answer the following questions.
Favorite subject of Grade IV
students
40 students
30
1. What is being compared in the graph? Science
2. How many students chose math as their
favourite subject? Math
3. How about Filipino?
4. What is the least favorite subject of grade IV
students?
5. What is the most favorite subject of grade IV
students?
IV. EVALUATION
Construct a Bar Graph using the data in the table.
Most Played Online Games

V. ASSIGNMENT

horizontal bar graph.
