THE EFFECT OF COVID 19 PANDEMIC IN THE LEARNING OF BSIT STUDENT IN

COLEGIO DE MONTALBAN 2021-2022

INTRODUCTION

The COVID-19 pandemic has spread across the globe, hitting nearly every country and territory.
In December of this year, the outbreak was first discovered in Wuhan, China. The public has
been warned by countries all around the world to be cautious. Hand washing, wearing face
masks, physical distance, and avoiding big gatherings and assemblies have all been used as
public health initiatives. In order to flatten the curve and control the spread of the disease,
lockdown and stay-at-home techniques have been implemented. And after that many country
decided that the nationwide lockdown specially here in Philippines and in between, movements
were allowed, offices began functioning, schools and college reopened for selected levels and
continued with online class for others and that’s the start of online learning despite the problems
faced by both instructors and students, distant and continuing education have proven a remedy
for an unprecedented worldwide pandemic transitioning from traditional face-to-face learning to
online learning may be a completely different experience for both students and teachers, one they
must adjust to with few or no other options and not only this also many countries have
substantial issues with a reliable Internet connection and access to digital devices therefore, it has
become essential for students to engage in offline activities and self-exploratory learning lack of
parental guidance, especially for young learners, is another challenge, as both parents are
working.

School time also raises social skills and awareness besides being fun for the children but Many
of these kids are now taking online classes and spending more time on virtual platforms, putting
them at risk of online abuse increased and unstructured online learning time has exposed students
to potentially dangerous and violent information, as well as increased the danger of cyber
bullying but we can do creative teaching, innovative and interactive through user-friendly tools
like google meet, zoom, and others to avoid the potentially dangerous and violent information on
internet.

The lesson is the COVID -19 pandemic shown us that instructors and students/learners should be
educated on how to use various online educational technologies. When normal courses resume
following the COVID-19 epidemic, instructors and students should be encouraged to continue
using online technologies to improve teaching and learning.
Theoretical Framework

This study is connected to Distributed cognition theory, the students is afforded more powers or
lessen their knowledge because of this pandemic in to put it another way, it's a student-centered
approach to learning in which students participate in a deliberately planned learning environment
that encourages interaction among participants (Bell & Winn, 2000).

This theory promotes learning in a community of learners or a system where interaction takes
place. It is through this interaction where cognition occurs. Distributed Cognition necessitates the
sharing of cognitive activity across the system's components and users, which might be other
individuals or instruments like gadgets, technology, or media. By outwardly expressing their
knowledge, these individuals spread their cognition among other learners and physical or digital
instruments.

E-learning tools have played a crucial role during this pandemic, helping schools and universities
facilitate student learning during the closure of universities and schools (Subedi et al., 2020).

Online learning also allows physically challenged students with more freedom to participate in
learning in the virtual environment, requiring limited movement (Basilaia & Kvavadze, 2020).
