1 Introduction
1.1 Function of this player

TOSHIBA VIDEO PLAYER supports playback of the following media: :

DVD Disc (DVD-Video and DVD-VR)


Movie files

Note: Depending on the player’s version, supported media may differ.

2 User Interface (UI)


The UI consists of Caption Bar, Top Bar, Display Area and Control Panel.
The Caption Bar and Top Bar provide special functions. Display Area displays video and information
about the playback. The Control Panel provides controls to control the playback.

Details about the various UIs are found in the following sections.

2.1 Caption Bar

The Caption Bar contains the following icons:

Setting Switch to Settings Menu

Help Open help file

Playback Switch to Playback Screen (if you are currently at the Settings
Menu)

Click on the icon to invoke the described function.

When you are at the Settings Menu, the Caption bar appears as below:

2.2 Display Area

Display Area is the main area where video content and playback information are shown. Video will
be displayed in the entire area and the following 5 sub areas display different information:

Index Name Description
1 On-Screen Displays information about Playback Status and Access
Display 1 Permission
2 On-Screen Displays information about Operation Status, Angle, Subtitle,
Display 2 Language and other messages
3 Seek Time Displays the seek time that indicates the current position of the
seek bar at which it is dragged.
4 Elapse Time Displays the elapse time of the current video playback
5 Total Time Displays the total length of current video file or title.

2.3 Control Panel


The Control Panel provides the main functions for playback control. Functions and descriptions of
the various icons are described in the following table.
Note: Some functions may be disabled depending on the content being played.
Icon Function Description
Windowed/Full Switch between full screen mode and windowed mode.
Screen
Angle Switch between viewing angles. If there are no viewing
angle options, this button will be disabled. Each click of
the button will cycle you through the available angle
options.
Subtitle Switch or On/Off subtitle
Audio Switch audio language
Stop Stop playback. Clicking on this button during fast-forward
or fast-rewind will also bring those actions to a stop.
Fast Rewind Play the video backward. Each click will cycle you through
the following sequence:
OSD : <, <<, <<<, <<<<
Previous Chapter Jump to the beginning of the current chapter and play
from that point. Clicking this button within 3 seconds from
the beginning of a chapter will jump to the beginning of
the previous chapter.
Play Start playback. Clicking this button during fast-forward or
fast-rewind will return the playback to normal speed.
Pause Pause playback

Next Chapter Jump to the beginning of the next chapter and play from
that point.
Fast Forward Fast-forward playback. Each click will cycle you through
the following sequence:
OSD : >, >>, >>>, >>>>
Eject Stop playback and eject media.

Menu In the case of DVD-Video playback, jump to Root Menu. If


there is no Root Menu, nothing will happen when you
click the button.
In the case of DVD-VR playback, clicking on this button
displays a list of titles. If there is no list of titles, nothing
will happen when you click the button.
When DVD-VR menu appears, playback goes into pause
state.
Top Menu In the case of DVD-Video playback, jump to Title Menu. If
there is no Title Menu, nothing will happen when you click
the button.
In the case of DVD-VR playback, clicking on this button
displays a list of titles. If there is no list of titles, nothing
will happen when you click the button.
When DVD-VR menu appears, playback goes into pause
state.
Mute/Unmute Mute/unmute volume.

Volume Adjust volume.

2.4 Top Bar

Top bar provides additional useful functions. The functions and descriptions of various icons are
listed in the following table.
Icon Function Description
Color Settings It allows you to adjust the brightness, hue, saturation, and
contrast to your preference.
After adjusting, to click the Apply button to apply adjustment.

Default Color button will restore the color settings to factory
default settings.
Cinema When watching a 16:9 video that is encoded with black
borders, enable this function to remove the black borders and
display only the video portion in full screen while maintaining
the aspect ratio.
Note: edges of some videos may be clipped.
Note: black borders of some videos might not be completely
removed.
Note: subtitles might not appear correctly. In such case,
please disable Cinema mode.
3D Enable 3D playback. This feature may not work on some
content. In the case of Blu-ray 3D™, player will enable 3D
effect automatically.
You can also set 3D format in the Settings Menu for 3D
playback of 3D video content, or 3D playback of 2D video
content using 2Dto3D conversion
One-Touch Jump to an earlier point by a predetermined increment of
Replay time, and resume playback from there. The time increment
options are 5, 10, and 30 seconds, and 5 minutes. You can set
the time increment you desire on the Settings Menu screen.
The factory default setting is 10 seconds.
One-Touch Skip Advance to a later point by a predetermined increment of
time, and resume playing from there. The time increment
options are 5, 10, and 30 seconds, and 5 minutes. You can set
the time increment you desire on the Settings Menu screen.
The factory default setting is 30 seconds.

3 Getting Started with this Player

3.1 Play a Movie Disc


This Player automatically starts up and play once a movie disc is inserted into optical drive if there is
no playback is running.

You can manually start a movie disc playback by clicking Play button on Control Panel.

To pause the playback, click Pause button on Control Panel or press Space key on keyboard.

To resume playback, click Play button on Control Panel or press Space key again on

keyboard.

Note : this function may not work with some titles.

3.2 View in Full Screen


This Player can play disc and video file in full screen.
To enter full screen mode, click Full Screen icon on Control Panel or double click on Display
Area.
To return window mode, click the same icon on Control Panel or double click on Display Area again.

3.3 Change Chapters


To skip and jump to a specific chapter, perform any of the following operations.

1 Click Next Chapter or Previous Chapter button on Control Panel.

2 Press Number Key of the chapter you want to jump to directly on keyboard.
3 Right Click to invoke Context Menu, you could see Chapter on the context menu. Move the cursor
to Chapter, you will see all available chapters on its right side. Click chapter number on the list to
change chapter.

Note : shortcut key may not work with some titles.

3.4 Forward and Rewind

To forward and rewind during playback, click Fast Forward and Fast Rewind button on

Control Panel.
The speed increases once button is clicked and return to 2x once button is clicked at 120x
(approximate).

3.5 Adjust Volume


To Adjust Volume, perform any of following operations.

1 Click on Volume control on the right side of Control Panel.

On the left side of volume adjustment bar, there is a / speaker button which allows

you to mute/ unmute the volume.

3.6 Eject and Reload Disc

To eject and reload a disc, click the Eject button on Control Panel.

4 Operation during Playback


During playback, you can operate the following functions.

4.1 Stop Playback

To stop playback, click Stop Icon on control panel. If From the last stop position is set in

Resume in the Settings Menu, stop position will be recorded. Next time when Play function is
executed, player will resume playback from that position.
Note: In certain cases, resume playback is not available after stop with BDJ and DVD-VR..etc

4.2 Playback information


During playback, you might want to know current playback information. By moving cursor
downward to the bottom, control panel will be displayed. Above control panel, current playback
time and total playback time are displayed on the left and right side separately.
Current playback title and chapter information are included in context menu which can be invoked
by right clicking mouse.

4.3 Menu

To display Root menu, click Menu icon on Control Panel.

To display title menu, click Top Menu icon on Control Panel.

4.4 Play Video File


This Player provides functions to play video files. To play a file, select the movie file from [Open
From] in right click menu or drag & drop the file to display area.

Note : This player does not support all file types. Some files may not be played.

4.5 Slow Playback
During video playback, slow playback is supported. To enable slow playback,
1 Invoke context menu by right clicking mouse.
2 Move cursor to Slow Forward. Three speeds (1/2, 1/4 and 1/8) will be displayed.
3 Click on any one of the speeds to enable show playback.

Note: No audio output during slow playback

4.6 One-Touch Replay

During playback, click One-Touch Replay icon on Top Bar to jump backward by a certain
period of time.
Note: The period of time can be set in Settings Menu.

4.7 One-Touch Skip

During playback, click One-Touch Skip icon on Top Bar to jump forward by a certain period
of time.
Note: The period of time can be set in Settings Menu.

4.8 Repeat
During playback of video title, title or chapter can be repeated. To enable repeat function, perform
the following steps:

1. Invoke context menu by right clicking mouse.


2. Move cursor to Repeat. Three repeat options(off, chapter and title) will be displayed.
3. Click on any one of the options to disable repeat or enable chapter/title repeat.

Note: The repeat mode can be disabled by selecting repeat off.

4.9 Audio Switch

During playback, click Audio icon to switch to the next available audio. By clicking icon

again at the last available audio, it will switch to the first available one. If there is just one audio

available, this icon will be grayed out as .

4.10 Subtitle Switch

During playback, click Subtitle icon to switch to the next available subtitle. By clicking icon

again at the last available subtitle, it will disable subtitle. If there is no subtitle available , this icon

will be grayed out as .

4.11 Angle Switch

During playback, click Angle icon to switch to the next available angle. By clicking icon

again at the last available angle, it will switch to the first available one. If there is just one angle

available, this icon will be grayed out as .

4.12 3D
This player supports 3D movie playback. Supported 3D formats are side-by-side and interleave.

5 Settings Menu
To change player settings, click Settings Icon on the right side of Caption Bar. You can select /
change each setting by mouse.

5.1 Resume
When watching a movie disc, Resume function is helpful as it allows you to start from the previous
position where you stopped.

To enable/disable resume, click Resume item on the middle of settings menu. The following 2
selections will display at the right side and you can set it by clicking on it.
1 From the last stop position
2 From the beginning

5.2 OSD
During playback, OSD(On Screen Display) informs you about current playback status information
and operation result.

To turn on/off OSD, click OSD item on middle of setting menu. The On/Off selection will display at
the right side and you can set it by clicking on it.

Note : On certain 3D systems, OSD will not be displayed by limitation

5.3 Video Always on Top


It is possible to make the video playback window stay always on top of the desktop without being
covered by other application windows.
To enable this setting, click Video Always on Top item on middle of setting menu. It shows

Enable/Disable at the right side and you can set it by clicking it.

5.4 One-Touch Replay


One-Touch Replay function allows you to play from a certain time before current playback time.

To setup the time period, click One-Touch Replay item on middle of setting menu. The following
selection will display at the right side and you can set it by clicking on it. The supported durations
are 5secs /10secs / 30secs / 5mins

5.5 One-Touch Skip


One-Touch Skip function allows you to play from certain time after current playback time.

To setup the time period, click One-Touch Skip item on middle of setting menu. The following
selection will display at the right side and you can set it by clicking on it. The supported durations
are 5secs /10secs / 30secs / 5mins

5.6 Wide Screen (for DVD-Video / DVD-VR only)

You can select from four screen sizes: Normal, Zoom, and Full Screen, and Non-linear scaling. The
factory default setting is Normal.

1 Normal: Whole video content is displayed without any change in the aspect ratio.
2 Zoom: Video content is displayed on the full screen without any change in the aspect ratio. Some
of the regions near the vertical or horizontal edges of the content may not be displayed.
3 Full Screen: The aspect ratio changes to accommodate the video content on the full screen. On
certain titles, the top/bottom or left/right regions of the content may appear stretched.
4 Non-linear scaling: The aspect ratio changes to accommodate the video content on the full
screen. On certain titles, the left/right regions of the content may appear stretched.

NOTE: On certain titles, neither "Zoom", "Full Screen" nor “Non-linear scaling” is supported. In such
cases, video content will be displayed in normal mode regardless of the settings.

5.7 Overscan (for DVD-Video / DVD-VR only)
During playback, select whether or not to hide the noise and bending at the edges of the image.
Select either "ON" or "OFF". The factory default setting is "ON".

5.8 Closed Caption (for DVD-Video only)


During playback, select whether or not to use subtitles to display the dialog and sound effects as
text. Select either "ON" or "OFF". The factory default setting is "OFF".

5.9 Audio Language


To setup audio language, click Audio Language item in the middle of setting menu.
If the language specified for the title is not supported, the player will use the first audio language on
the title's list.

5.10 Subtitle Language


To setup subtitle language, click Subtitle Language item in the middle of setting menu.
If the language specified for the title is not supported, the player will use the first subtitle language
on the title's list. The factory default setting is the language configured for the PC's operating
system.

5.11 Disc Menu Language


To setup disc menu language, click Disc Menu Language item in the middle of setting menu.

If the language specified for the title is not supported, the player will use the first disc menu
language on the title's list. The factory default setting is the language configured for the PC's
operating system.

5.12 3D Method
Choose this setting to playback 3D video content. 4 types of 3D format can be chosen:
"Side-by-Side(LR)", "Side-by-Side(RL)", "Interleave(LR)" and "Interleave(RL)". Please check which
type of format your 3D content is in and choose the appropriate setting.

6 Appendix
6.1 Short cut key
While using this Player, you can operate almost all functions directly by short cut key on keyboard
without touching UI by mouse. Following is the short cut key table.
“base” column means press “Key” and “base” at same time.
“shift” column means press “Key” and “shift” at same time.
“ctrl” column means press “Key” and “ctrl” at same time.
“shift+ctrl” column means press “Key” and “shift+ctrl” at same time.
“alt” column means press “Key” and “alt” at same time.
“T” column means press “Key” and “T” at same time.
