0.0 Introduction
This document is intended to provide the guidance necessary to prepare a computer for installation
and activation of Varex Nexus DR imaging workstation software.

Tasks covered by this procedure include,


1. Preparing computer workstation
2. Setting up Wireless Access Point
3. Installing Nexus DR software packages
4. Activating the Nexus DR application
5. Provisioning the system

After completing the instructions provided in this document, refer to the Nexus DR Operator and
Service Manuals for additional information to help you configure, calibrate, and use your Nexus
DR system.

1.0 Equipment and Materials


All material contents delivered by Varex are included in one shipping box. Once the box is opened,
the user should check the complete set of items as listed on the Nexus DR SW Solution System
Contents Checklist (736-835-G1) Included in the Shipping Box.

NOTE: Stop work and contact Varex customer support if any components are missing or
damaged. Contact information can be found on the final page of this document.

2.0 Prepare Computer Workstation


For the Nexus DR Workstation, this package is delivered as the software solution. The OEM is
responsible for purchasing the computer unit in the local market.

The computer hardware requirement is listed in Appendix B – Nexus DR Workstation


Computer Hardware Requirements.

2.1 Laptop PC Connections

NOTE: The connections shown are for a typical Laptop PC with one onboard NIC for
Company Network Connection. Equivalent connections to those described should be
made for the PC being used for Software Installation.

2.2 Battery Charging and Detector Serial Number


1. Remove the following detector components from packaging and inspect
for damage:
a) The PaxScan 4336Wv4 detector
b) Detector batteries
c) Battery charger
d) Battery charger power supply
e) Battery charger power cable

Refer to Nexus DR SW Solution System Contents Checklist (736-835-G1) for Part Numbers for
each component

2. Record the detector part number and last 10 digits of the serial number
(Format: xxxxxx-xxxx) on the license certificate. This information can be
found on the back of the detector (See Figure 3 below).

3. Connect the charger power supply to the battery charger.


4. Apply power to the battery charger by connecting the power cable
between the charger power supply and an available AC power source.
5. Insert a battery into the charger to begin charging. The status LEDs on the
charger will indicate level of charge (solid green LEDs) and charging
activity (blinking green LED).

2.3 Workstation Hardware Setup

2.3.1 PC Minimum Hardware Requirements


1. Ensure that the Laptop meets the Minimum Hardware Requirements as
described in Appendix – Nexus DR Workstation Computer Hardware
Requirements.

2.3.2 Wireless Adapter Requirements


1. Ensure that the following Wireless Network Adapter is installed

▪ Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC 7260 or


▪ Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC 7265

2. The above wireless adapter is required for correct operation of the


Wireless connection between the Laptop and the Detector Panel.
3. If the above Wireless Network Adapter is not present, the Adapter should
be obtained from the Manufacturer and installed by following the relevant
Laptop Manufacturer Instructions.

2.4 Workstation labeling


1. Affix the label shown in Figure 4 to the bottom, of the system PC, as
shown in Figure 5.

2.5 Connect computer peripherals


1. Connect the Charger to the Laptop and connect to the AC supply – This
will ensure that the Laptop Battery is fully charged and does not lose
power during the Configuration Process

3.0 Windows 10 OS Setup

3.1 Initial User setup


1. Power up the computer.
2. If this is the first time the computer is powered up, Windows will prompt
you to create the very first user account. Create the first user account
named NexusAdmin.
3. Set the password for the NexusAdmin account to ‘Generation6’.
4. Alternatively, if a different administrator-level user has already been
created, Login to Windows as this user.
5. Using typical Windows account management, create an administrator-
level user named ‘NexusAdmin’.
6. Set the password for the NexusAdmin account to ‘Generation6’.
7. Log out and log back in to the NexusAdmin account using the
‘Generation6’ password.
8. Original user can now be deleted using typical Windows account
management tools leaving only the NexusAdmin account.

3.2 Windows Updates


3.2.1 Install Latest Updates
1. Connect the computer to an available Internet connection using the on-
board Network Connection.
2. Power up the computer and log on to the NexusAdmin account.
3. Click the Start button and select Settings.

4. In the Settings window, select ‘Update and Security…’.

5. Select Windows Update in the left menu.


6. Click Check for Updates to scan for the latest available updates.

7. Updates will be downloaded and installed automatically.


8. After installing updates, restart the computer if prompted to do so.
9. After restart, log back in to NexusAdmin account.
10. Repeat this section to ensure all available updates have been installed.
Proceed to the next section when no further updates are available.

3.2.2 Disable Automatic Updates


1. Type gpedit.msc into the Search field of the Task bar and click the
program when it appears in the results list.

2. Navigate to Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates /


Windows Components / Windows Update.

3. Double-click Configure Automatic Updates and set it to Disabled.


4. Click OK.

5. Close the gpedit.msc window.


6. Restart the system.
7. Log on to system as NexusAdmin.

3.3 Verify Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC 7260/7265 Adapter Driver


1. The Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC 7260/7265 network adapter,
requires a Specific version of the Device Driver to be installed. Verify
correct Driver is installed by referencing Appendix A before continuing
to the next section.

NOTE: After installing the Specific Device Driver for the Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC
7260/7265 adapter, care should be taken when updating Windows OS, as this may
also update the Driver to an incorrect version. If this is the case, go to Appendix A to
re-install the correct Driver

3.4 Turn Off Remote Assistance


1. Type Remote Access into the Search field of the Task bar.
2. Select ‘Allow remote access to your computer’ from the results list.

3. Ensure ‘Remote’ tab is selected.


4. Uncheck ‘Allow Remote Assistance’ checkbox.
5. Select ‘Allow remote connections to this computer’.
6. Un-check ‘Allow connections only from computers …’ checkbox.

7. Select OK to save changes and close the System Properties window.

3.5 Disable Scheduled Disk Defragmenter


1. Type ‘Administrative tools’ into the Search field of the Task bar.
2. Select ‘Administrative Tools’ from the results list.
3. Double-click Defragment and Optimize Drives.

4. Under Scheduled optimization, click Change settings.


5. Uncheck Run on a schedule (recommended) checkbox and click OK.
This will turn off scheduled defragmentation.

6. Close all open windows.

3.6 Turn Off Windows Time Service


1. Select the Settings icon in the Start menu.

2. Click Time and Language in the Settings window.

3. Set the following options to Off.


a) Set time automatically
b) Set time zone automatically
4. Select the appropriate value in the Time Zone drop-down menu.
5. Under Change date and time click Change.

6. Verify that the system time and date displayed is correct. Adjust if
necessary. If changes are made, click Change to apply the new settings.
7. Close the Settings window.

3.7 Setup Nexus DR Power Options


3.7.1 Create Nexus DR Power Plan
1. Type ‘Power Options’ into the Search field of the Task bar.
2. Select ‘Power & sleep settings’ from the results list.
3. In the Power & sleep window, under Related settings, select Additional
power settings.
4. In the Power options window, select the Create a Power Plan link in the
left menu.

5. Select the High performance plan as a template.


6. Name the plan “Nexus DR” and select Next to continue.

7. Set the following options to Never for ‘On battery’ and ‘Plugged in’.
a) Turn off the display
b) Put the computer to sleep

8. Click Create to save the new power plan.

9. Ensure the Nexus DR power plan is selected and then click Change plan
settings.

10. Click the Change advanced power settings link.

11. In the Advanced Power Settings window, expand the Hard Disk category
and the Turn off hard disk after category for On Battery and Plugged in
within it. Use the down arrow next to the Setting (Minutes) field to set the
option on both to Never. (The down arrow decrements the number until it
reaches zero, at which point the field indicates “Never”.)

12. Expand the Sleep category and the following categories within it.
a) Sleep after
b) Allow hybrid sleep
c) Hibernate after
13. Set the three Sleep options to Never, Off, and Never, respectively for
both On battery and Plugged in.

14. Expand the USB settings category and the USB selective suspend setting
within it.
15. Use the drop-down to select Disabled in the Setting field for On battery
and Plugged in.

16. Select ‘OK’ to save changes. The window will close automatically.
17. Close the Edit plan settings window.

3.7.2 Panel Wireless Network Adapter – Disable Power Down


1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
2. Expand the Network Adapters category.
3. Right-click on the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 network card and
select Properties.
4. In the Properties window, select the Power Management tab.
5. Uncheck the “Allow the computer to turn off…” checkbox.

6. Click OK to save the change.


7. Close the Device Manager window.

3.8 Disable Fast Startup Power Option


1. Type ‘Power Options’ into the Search field of the Task bar.
2. Select ‘Power & sleep settings’ from the results list.
3. In the Power & sleep window, under Related settings, select Additional
power settings.
4. In the Power options window, ensure ‘Nexus DR’ is selected as the
‘Preferred Plan’, then select ‘Choose what the power buttons do’

5. Select ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.

6. Under ‘Shutdown settings’ Disable the ‘Turn on fast startup’.

7. Select ‘Save changes’ to save changes.

4.0 PaxScan 4336Wv4 Detector Installation

NOTE: The detector supplied with the kit has already been configured by Varex to
communicate with the Nexus DR Software when installed.
The SSID of the Panel has been factory set to: VICV4-ReceptorSerialNumber where
ReceptorSerialNumber is the same as that noted in Section 2.2 above and recorded
on the License Certificate.

5.0 Nexus DR Software Packages Installation

This section describes the steps to install Nexus DR Software packages.


Nexus DR Software consists of the following two packages.

1. Varex Nexus DR Prerequisites x64.exe Pre-Requisites Installer


2. Varex Nexus DR x64.exe Nexus DR SW Installer

Please follow the following steps to complete software package installation.

5.1 Copy Packages to Computer Desktop


1. Insert the USB Thumb Drive that contains the above installation packages
into one of the computer's USB ports.
2. Copy the installers onto the computer desktop.
3. Thumb drive can be removed from the Computer
4. Install the packages in the following order.

5.2 Install Nexus DR Prerequisite Package


1. Verify that the system is connected to the internet.
2. On the Desktop, Right-click the Varex Nexus DR Prerequisites x64.exe.
file and select ‘Run as Administrator’ to start the installation
3. If you are prompted to allow the application to make changes to your
device, click Yes.
4. After the installer extracts to a temporary location, it will scan the current
software environment and display a list of applications that will be
installed. The following figure illustrates the complete list of possible
installations.

NOTE: Prerequisite software that has been previously installed on the system will not be
displayed in the list. The subsections of this procedure that pertain to software that
has been installed previously may be skipped.

5. Click Install to proceed with the installations. If you are prompted to


allow the application to make changes to your device, click Yes.

5.3 Install Varex Nexus DR Prerequisites


1. The Varex Nexus DR Prerequisites x64 - InstallShield Wizard will now
open to finish installation of the Nexus DR prerequisites. Click Next to
continue.
2. At the License Agreement window, check the ‘I accept the terms in the
license agreement’ box and click Next to continue.
3. At the Database Server Window, click Next to continue.
4. Click Install at the Ready to Install the Program window to start
installation.
5. If you are prompted to allow the application to make changes to your
device, click Yes.
6. Allow installation to complete and then click Finish to complete
installation.
7. Restart the System.
8. After restart, log back in to the NexusAdmin account.

5.4 Setup Acrobat Reader DC to allow access by Nexus DR SW


1. Double-click on "Acrobat Reader DC" icon from your computer
desktop to open the application.
2. Under "Edit" file menu, select "Preferences..." menu item to open the
Preferences dialog.

3. Under "Categories" list, select "Security (Enhanced)" item.


4. On the right pane, uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at startup".
5. Click "Ok" button to close the dialog.
6. Close the application.
7. Delete the Adobe Reader shortcut from the desktop and empty the
Recycle Bin.

6.0 Nexus DR Software Installation

6.1 Install Nexus DR Software


1. From the Desktop, Right-click on the Varex Nexus DR x64.exe file and
select ‘Run as Administrator’ to start the installation.
2. After the installer extracts to a temporary location, it will scan the current
software environment and display a list of applications that will be
installed. The following figure illustrates the complete list of possible
installations.

NOTE: Prerequisite software that has been previously installed on the system, such as when
reinstalling Nexus DR for service purposes, will not be displayed in the list. The
subsections of this procedure that pertain to software that has been installed
previously may be skipped.

3. Click Next to begin installation of the Nexus DR x64 Software. If you are
prompted to allow program to make changes, click Yes.

4. Accept the terms of the license agreement and then click Next to
continue.
5. Click Install to install the Nexus DR x64 Software.

6. If you are prompted to allow programs to make changes during


installation, click Yes to continue.
7. Allow the installation to complete and then click Finish to complete the
installation.
8. Verify that the ‘Nexus DR’ shortcut is now on the Desktop.
9. Delete the two installers from the computer desktop and empty the
Recycle Bin.

NOTE: Do not restart the System at this point, SW needs to be run to configure user
settings before any restart.

6.2 Run Nexus DR Software


1. Double-click the Nexus DR Software shortcut to start the
Nexus DR SW Application.
2. If you are prompted to allow the application to make
changes to your device, click Yes.
3. When the Nexus DR SW first runs, the SW will configure the User and
Software settings

4. Allow the Nexus DR Software to load.

6.3 Log out from System


1. Exit from the Nexus DR Application as follows:

a) Select the System Settings icon at the top of the screen next to the
Nexus DR Logo.

b) Under Settings, select ‘Exit Application’ to close the Nexus DR


Application.

c) Select OK to Close the Application.

2. Nexus DR Application will close back to Desktop.


3. Sign out from NexusAdmin user back to Login Screen
4. Login to the ‘NexusAdmin’ account using Generation6 Password.

5. System will now configure the Nexus DR Settings and then sign out
the NexusAdmin user back to the Log-in screen.
6. Login to the ‘NexusAdmin’ account again.

7. When the System logs back in to the NexusAdmin account note the
background has been changed to the Varex Imaging Nexus DR
background

6.4 Restart Nexus DR Application

1. Double-click the Nexus DR Software shortcut to start the Nexus


DR SW Application.

2. Allow the Nexus DR Software to load.

7.0 Licensing
7.1 Obtain Nexus DR Software License (.V2C File)
1. Click the gear icon in the upper-left corner of the screen to open the
Settings mode login side bar.
2. Click Enter Settings to open Settings mode.
3. In the Settings mode navigation bar, click License.

4. Enter the Nexus DR Product Key (found on the License Certificate


included in your software kit) into the Product Key field. Ensure that you
follow the example format provided above the field, including hyphens.
5. Click ‘Save To’ to create your *.c2v System Identity file.
6. Navigate to the desired directory, then click Save to create the file. Save
the file to an appropriate location to allow it to be emailed.
▪ If you will be submitting your file directly from the Nexus DR
system, via web email client (e.g. yahoo, gmail, Outlook webmail),
save the file to the local hard drive.
▪ If you will be sending the file from another computer, save the file to
a removable media, such as a USB flash drive, to allow transfer to
that other computer.

7. Navigate to the directory containing your System Identify file (.c2v).


Record the file name onto the License Certificate included with your
software kit.
8. Email the completed License Certificate and the System Identify file to
[email protected] with a subject line of Nexus DR
License Request (KitSerialNumber). The “KitSerialNumber” (NXKT-
xxxx-xxxx) can be found on the License Certificate or the label included
with your kit.

NOTE: Requests submitted during business hours (Mon-Fri 8:15am-5pm EST, except
holidays) will generally receive a response within the same day. Requests submitted
outside of business hours will receive a response as soon as possible on the next
business day.

9. Proceed to license activation after receiving the response with the license
attachment (*.v2c).

7.2 Activate Nexus DR License

NOTE: This section requires a Nexus DR license file (*.v2c) that you will receive from
Varex Imaging after submitting your license request.

1. Return to the License section of Settings mode.


2. If your license file (*.v2c) is stored on removable media, connect or insert
that media to the Nexus DR computer.
3. Click Open.

4. Navigate to the directory or drive containing your license file and select
the file.
5. Click Open to load the file into the Nexus DR software.
The Nexus DR SW License key and Image Processing license key will
appear in the corresponding text fields.
6. Click Activate in the lower-right corner of the screen to activate the
licenses.
▪ If the license activation is successful, the license status rows in the
table at the top of the screen will be updated to reflect the current
licensing information.
▪ If the license activation fails for any license listed in the table, stop
work and contact Technical Support (+1-315-234-6810) or email
[email protected] for further assistance.

8.0 System Provisioning


8.1 System Serial Number
1. In Settings mode, select System Configure in the left navigation menu.
2. If not selected by default, select the General tab near the top of the
screen.
3. Under Site Info, remove the default value from the Serial Number field
and enter the serial number (NXKT-xxxx-xxxx) of the software kit you
are installing.

4. Click Save to apply the change.

8.2 Generator Interface I/O Box Selection (Rad Mode Only)

IMPORTANT: Generator Interface I/O Box Selection needs to be configured only if the
Nexus DR system is to be used in Radiographic Mode and the Generator
I/O Box (736-924-G1) is connected. If you are configuring a system for
vTrigger mode, skip this section and proceed with Section 8.3.

1. Select System Configure in the left navigation menu.


2. Select the Generator tab near the top of the screen.

3. Under X-Ray Generator Interfaces select the Generator I/O Box….


4. Click Save in the lower-right corner to apply the change.
5. If the Generator IO Box is connected to the System, the Status will
indicate ‘Connected’.

NOTE: With the current version of Nexus DR Software, changes to the Generator
configuration will not take effect until the Application is restarted. The App will be
restarted later when provisioning of the system is complete

8.3 Panel Installation


1. Ensure that the 4336Wv4 detector is powered up.
2. The detector status LED will show orange while initializing, then slow
blinking green when searching for an access point. Proceed when the
detector is searching for an access point.
3. Select System Configure in the left navigation menu of Settings mode.
4. Select the General tab near the top of the screen
5. Under Hosted Access Point settings Set Enable Host Access Point to On.

6. Select Edit to enable editing of the Panel SSID and Password.

7. Set the Access Point SSID to the SSID of the Panel to be connected, the
SSID of the Panel has been pre-set to: VICV4-ReceptorSerialNumber
and is as indicated in Section 4.0 above.

8. Select Apply to apply the changes and then Refresh.


9. Note the Connected Panels indicator updates to 1 and the Green LED on
the Panel flashes quickly to indicate the Panel is connected to the Hosted
Access Point.

10. Select the Configure Detector tab near the top of the screen.

11. Click Find under the Found Detectors section.

12. The software will automatically scan available network connections for
PaxScan detectors. It may take up to 60 seconds to complete the scan and
display results in the field above the button.

13. When the detector is displayed, select it from the Found Detectors list and
click Add to register the detector with the Nexus DR software.
14. Configure the detector settings as follows:
a) Enter the desired name for the detector in the Detector Name field.
This will be the value displayed to the user in panel-related fields
and windows in Clinical Mode. If necessary, refer to the Service
Manual for character limitations for this field.
b) If desired, edit the Calibration Expires (days) field to set the
desired calibration frequency. Nexus DR will automatically display
prompts when calibration expires to notify the user that calibration is
due.
c) Enter the clipping value indicated on the detector test data sheet
(included with the detector) into the Panel Clipping Value field.
d) Enter the sensitivity value indicated on the detector test data sheet
(included with the detector) into the Sensitivity field.
15. Click Save to apply the changes.

16. Select the detector listed under Configured Detectors.

17. Verify that all fields under Panel Information are populated with data. If
any fields are blank or do not appear similar to the example shown above,

8.4 Nexus DR Software Language Selection

NOTE: Nexus DR SW Language will only need to be changed if the System is to be operated
in an alternative supported Language.

1. In Settings mode, select System Configure in the left navigation menu.


2. If not selected by default, select the General tab near the top of the
screen.
3. Under Language at the bottom right of the screen select the required
Language for the Nexus DR Software.

4. Select Save in the lower-right corner to apply the change.


5. Note the Nexus DR User Interface is now displayed in the selected
language.

8.5 Restart Configured Nexus DR System


1. Exit from Service Mode.
2. Exit from the Nexus DR SW back to the Desktop.
3. Restart the System and log in to NexusAdmin User.
4. Restart the Nexus DR Software and verify System functions correctly.

9.1 Verify Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC 7260/7265 Adapter Driver

NOTE: Windows Updates should be disabled prior to this step, as indicated previously in this
procedure.

9.1.1 Verify Current Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC 7260/7265 Adapter Driver
1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
2. Expand the Network Adapters category.
3. Right-click on the Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC 7260/7265 adapter
and select Properties.
4. Select the Driver tab.

5. Verify that the Driver Version is 18.12.0.3.


6. If the Version is not correct go to Section 9.1.2 below to install the
correct driver from the Nexus DR Installation USB card.

9.1.2 Install Correct Driver (v18.12.0.3)


1. Insert the USB Thumb Drive that contains the above installation packages
into one of the computer's USB ports.
2. The installer can be found in the Intel ® Dual Band Wireless AC 7265
Driver folder.
3. Double-click the Wireless_18.12.0_De164 application to install the
driver files on to the System.
4. Right-click on the ‘Start’ button and select ‘Device Manager’
5. Expand the ‘Network adapters’ category, Right-click on the ‘Intel®
Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265’ adapter and select ‘Update Driver
Software…’.
6. Select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’

7. Select ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’


8. Check the ‘Show compatible hardware’ checkbox

9. Select the Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 (Intel) Driver


10. Select ‘Next’ to load the selected Wireless Network driver software

Operating System: Support Windows 10 64-bit is required.
