Manufactured in Paderborn in the centre of the German industrial heartland, BKG Goods Lifts
really are the high quality, well engineered product that you would expect from a German based
manufacturer.
Over 50 years refining the product means that a BKG Goods Lift will be easy to use whilst
providing optimum performance and long term reliability.
BKG Goods Lifts are available in two basic configurations; Bespoke Goods Lifts with capacities of
300 to 500kg and the more heavy duty Goodsmover Lifts with capacities of 500 to 2,000kg.
Every model in the BKG Goods Lift range comes in the form of a self-contained “kit” complete
within its own structure to minimise site installation time and reduce builder’s works required. In
most cases, the structure also houses the lift motor and controller, so a separate motor room is
often not required. All parts incorporated in the lift carry 12 months guarantee.
All BKG Goods Lifts comply with the European Standard EN81-31:2010 – Category A. This is seen
as the most suitable way for a goods lift to achieve compliance with European Machinery
Directive 2006/42/EC.
BKG Goods Lifts are only available to the UK & Irish Lift Industries from Shorts, the UK goods
lift experts. The partnership between the two companies has been in place for almost 30 years.
Shorts are an ISO9001 company that provides detailed design advice, a comprehensive UK
friendly layout drawing with each lift, installation and testing support. This ensures that you

CHOOSING THE RIGHT GOODS LIFTS
The primary purpose of a goods lift is to move bulky or heavy goods and products between
floors. Generally they are meant for commercial or industrial back-of-house applications such
as warehouses, shop storerooms or manufacturing facilities and are usually operated by trained
personnel (as opposed to members of the public). They are in the main not meant for
transporting passengers. However, due to the size of the lift car, many goods lifts are accessible
to people and the safety rules for their construction and installation must take into account the
hazard associated with persons entering the lift or the lift shaft. These lifts are known as
Accessible Goods Only Lifts. All of BKG’s Goods Lifts are treated as accessible lifts and as such are
manufactured to the European Machinery Directive and designed to comply with the European
Standard EN81-31:2010. This includes the use of an overspeed governor and safety gear
arrangement that is designed to limit uncontrolled movement.
Most Goods Lifts rely on “call and send” controls on the landing, enabling the users to dispatch
goods to other levels without stepping inside the lift car. However, should there be a site need to
send a trained operative alongside the goods being moved, BKG have designed a special Goods
Lift With Attendant. This enables the operative to travel with the goods and select which floor
they need to travel to from within the lift car.
As they are designed for back-of-house use and moving heavy goods, a robust and solid design
is more critical than aesthetics. All BKG Goods Lifts are built to last, using heavy grade galvanized
steel for the lift car, doors and structure. Although zintec or stainless steel units are available if
the conditions or environment dictate. They can be mounted inside an existing or newly built
brick or block lift shaft or can be simply fitted in their own standalone structure which then can
be enclosed with galvanized steel, zintec or stainless steel paneling to minimize builders works
and minimize disruption to the lift owner’s business.

BKG BESPOKE GOODS LIFTS
Wherever goods need to be transported between floors, the BKG range of Bespoke Goods Lifts offers the
ideal answer. Each lift is tailored to meet the most exacting of requirements and each lift is built
specifically to match customers’ needs.
The BKG Bespoke Goods Lifts range in capacity from 300 to 500kg. They come with heavy duty hinged
landing doors – single or double dependent on car size – which can be complimented with a choice
of drop-bar or lattice gate protection to the car. Fire-rated concertina landing doors are available as an
option. In most cases, the drive unit is fixed at the top of the structure with a chain drive arrangement,
however in applications where low headroom is a problem, top or bottom side located drum drive
variants are available.
All BKG Bespoke Goods Lifts come with their own galvanized steel structure and are built to a standard
specification. Conventional models come complete with a machine access door. Capacity, travel, speed,
number of stops, car dimensions, entrance type, finishes etc can all be varied to customize the lift to
match the site requirements.

BKG GOODSMOVER GOODS LIFTS
Specially developed by BKG for larger and heavier goods applications, the EN81-31 Goodsmover Goods
Lifts range has many of the features that you have become accustomed to with BKG’s Goods Lifts plus
many more.
The BKG Goodsmover range boasts four models, 500kg and 750kg with a small car and 750kg and
1,000kg with a large car. They come complete with their own self-supporting galvanised steel structure
and a galvanised steel machine access door. All Goodsmover models are powered by an overhead worm
gear and chain drive arrangement, although low headroom versions are available which are driven by a
side mounted rope and drum arrangement. The galvanised steel lift car is available as standard in two
sizes, although all dimensions can be varied on request. The two smaller lifts are supplied as standard
with a single hinged landing door, while the two larger ones are supplied with double hinged doors.
Concertina doors are available as an option on all models.

BKG GOODSMOVER GOODS LIFTS
WITH ATTENDANT
This lift range is a variation on the basic Goodsmover Lift and allows the goods being moved to be
accompanied by a single trained operative.
A push station is fitted in the car which becomes active on the action of a keyswitch. The pushes are
hold-to-run type and protection is given to the passenger through the use of a safety edge on the open
side of the car. The car height is 2000mm and comes fitted as standard with a light and integrated
emergency lighting. All other specification features and options are the same as the basic Goodsmover
range.

BKG SPECIAL PRODUCTS
BKG Pallet Lifts
BKG have developed two lifts specifically for transporting goods on pallets. Both lifts are quite simply
300kg capacity Goods Lifts sized specifically to suit the two most commonly used pallets in the UK.
The Euro Pallet Lift is specifically designed to take the widely used 800 x 1200mm Euro Pallet. The car
width and depth are 1000 x 1300mm and this lift requires a shaft of 1400 x 1420mm.
The UK Pallet Lift has been developed by BKG specifically for the UK market and is sized to accept 1000
x 1200mm UK style pallets. The special car size on this model is 1100mm wide x 1300mm deep and this
requires a shaft of 1500mm wide x 1420 deep.
Both lifts require a pit of 170mm and a minimum headroom of 2500mm and both come with their own
structure and come complete with a single hinged landing door and an electrically interlocked drop bar
on the car. The car is fitted with timber buffer rails for extra wall protection. The remainder of the lift is
produced to the same specification as the BKG Bespoke Goods Lifts and both models are manufactured
to comply with EN81-31:2010.

BKG SERVICE LIFTS
In addition to Goods Lifts, Shorts also offer the full range of BKG Service Lifts, with capacities
from 5 to 250kg.
These are available in two basic configurations;
Dumbwaiters for the transport of food, small items or
documents and Trolley Lifts for the transport of bulky
but light items such as laundry, light waste or general
retail goods.
As with the Goods Lifts, every model in the Service
Lift range comes in the form of a self-contained “kit”
complete within its own self-supporting structure to
minimize site installation time and reduce builder’s
works required. In most cases, the structure also
houses the lift motor so a separate motor room is often
not required. Capacity, travel, speed, number of stops,
car dimensions, loading, entrance type, finishes etc
can all be varied to customize the lift to match the site
requirements. All parts incorporated in the lift carry 12
months guarantee.
Our Dumbwaiters range in capacity from 5 to 250kg
and all come with vertical bi-parting landing doors.
Conventional models come complete with a machine
access door. In addition, Shorts and BKG have
developed the Advantage Dumbwaiter specifically
to meet the requirements of the very short lead time
market. These 50kg and 100kg capacity models are
available ex-stock from Shorts’ warehouse in the UK.
The Trolley Lift range extends in capacity from 100 to
250kg. They come with heavy duty hinged landing
doors which can be complemented with a choice of
drop-bar or lattice gate protection fitted to the car.
All BKG Service Lifts comply with the European Standard EN81-3:2000 which is seen as the most suitable
way for a service lift to achieve compliance with European Machinery Directive
2006/42/EC.
