Laws of Radicals

The document describes a classroom activity to teach students about the laws of radicals. The activity involves students playing a card game where they will match radical expressions on one card with their simplified forms on another card. The laws of radicals are reviewed which include rules for simplifying expressions with square roots, cube roots, and expressions with variables under the radical. Students will then participate in a game show activity where radical expressions are displayed and they must come up with the simplified forms.

RADICALS

LAWS OF RADICALS
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students
should be able to:
Enumerate the laws of radicals.
Simplify radical expressions using
the laws of radicals
ACTIVITY: THE PAIR CARDS
Mechanics of the Game:
1.The class will be playing this game, the same as the
card game “1,2,3,4, Pass!”.
2.Each student will be given 2 set of cards, are
the expressions containing
and are the expressions containing
.
ACTIVITY: THE PAIR CARDS
3.Set A will be given individually to the class and they
will solve for the corresponding radical expression
of the set. This will be done for 2 minutes.
4.Next thing, the teacher will randomly distribute
the set B of the cards.
5.The 1,2,3,4, pass begins!
ACTIVITY: THE PAIR CARDS
6.If one of the players finds its corresponding
set B, he/she will click the
placed at the center of the class.
7.The teacher gives the corresponding rank to
the players and the players will write their
equations on the board.
Let’s begin!
QUESTIONS:
What is your rank in this activity? How
did you do it?
What skills are needed to correctly
answer the problems in this activity?
What insights have you gained form this
activity?

GUESS YOU’RE READY FOR THE RACE?
 Radical expressions will be flashed on the TV screen.
 Once you’ve seen the expressions, try to solve for its simplified form.
 If you are done, you can press the at the center and
write your answer on the board.
 If the answer is correct, you will be given a badge equivalent to

 If your answer is wrong, you will be given a badge and is
equivalent to as your reward for trying.
