PROPOSAL FOR RUNNING A VOCATIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN
COMPUTER EDUCATION FOR THE ECONOMICALLY WEAKER SECTIONS
As it has been seen in the recent past that lot of efforts have been made by various governmental
& non-governmental organizations to encourage vocational training among children & women.
In the last few years thousands of women have been empowered to take up jobs and earn their
livelihood through various vocational trainings in various fields. But there is still a long way to
go. Keeping the growing need for providing skill based training keeping employment in mind
Aadhar Nirman Foundation propose to set up a vocational skill development Centre at
Bahadurgarh, Haryana exclusively for the girls and boys of economically weaker sections for
their socio-economic upliftment. The centre would provide vocational course of computer
education to young women of vicinity at no cost.
Aadhar Nirman Foundation (ANF) is a non-profit organization founded under Societies
Registration Act 1860 in 2014, headquartered in New Delhi, committed to the development of
society by focusing on alleviating poverty and social exclusions. We do this through well-
planned and comprehensive programmes in health, education, livelihood, disaster preparedness
and response and skill development. Our overall goal is the empowerment of women and girls
from economically weaker sections and marginalized communities, leading to improvement in
their lives and livelihoods.
ANF over the period of last five years has established itself as an organization committed
towards welfare and empowerment of deprived people especially with children living in villages.
The ANF has worked with multiple stakeholders to create a platform and an understanding
towards this deprived section of the society.
Background
Literacy or education is an essential indicator to judge the societal, cultural, and fiscal
advancement of the society to upgrade the quality of life at local, national and global level.
However it varies at different levels because of influence of an assortment of factors related to
the society, religion, sex, caste, economic status. According to census 2011 it is found that there
is a wide gender difference in literacy rate at the district level in the state. Jhajjar has an
average literacy rate of 80.83%, higher than the national average of 74%. Male literacy is
89.44%, and female literacy is 70.16%. Bahadurgarh is a small municipal town in the district
Jhajjar. The sex ratio in Harynana is 879 and the child sex ratio is 834 and the sex ratio at Jhajjar
is 782. The gender inequality is coupled to discrimination in other spheres of female’s lives.
Definitely, the spatial variation in male-female ratio can be blamed to availability, accessibility
and affordability of education and educational institutions in socially and economically
backward regions.
Women’s economic participation and empowerment are fundamental to strengthening women’s
rights and enabling them to have control over their lives and exert influence in society. The
economic empowerment of women is a prerequisite for sustainable development. Gender
equality and empowered women are catalysts for multiplying development efforts.
Currently, a majority of female workforce in India is unskilled. Skill is the bridge between job
and workforce. Skill development is a key to improve employability and income-earning
opportunities for women and for enhancing sustainable rural development and livelihoods. Social
outcomes are reflected in indicators of income inequality and poverty. Employment outcomes
are reflected by indicators of employment rates, unemployment, youth not in school and
earnings.
