Topic 1 Identifying the implicit and explicit meaning literary piece
Identifying the tone and mood of a literary piece
The definition of implicit is, “implied or understood though not
plainly or directly expressed.” Something is, therefore, implicit when it is not directly stated but is either suggested in the wording or necessary to effectuate the purpose. Implicit Meaning is the implied idea in a certain sentence or paragraph. It is not plainly expressed. Explicit Meaning is stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt. Tone and mood both deal with the emotions centered around a piece of writing. Though they seem similar and can in fact be related causally, they are in fact quite different. Tone and mood are often confused, so now would be a good time to make sure you understand the difference between the two. If tone is the author's attitude toward a subject, then mood is how we are made to feel as readers, or the emotion evoked by the author. Topic 2 Context clues are hints that an author gives to help define a difficult or unusual word. The clue may appear within the same sentence as the word to which it refers, or it may follow in a preceding sentence.
