CHAPTER 3
ASSIGNMENT ON INDUSTRIAL TRAINING
3.1 Job Scopes
During the internship period, the student was appointed by the company to consult the
respective clients. Most of the clients of the company are to get their Halal Certification
for their company. The student task was to guide them and provide the consultation in
order for them to get the certifications successfully. The student was also asked to prepare
all the relevant documentations that are needed to submit the Halal applications. In the
span of 6 months, the student has handled up to ten clients, which compromises of food
business entrepreneurs in Malaysia. For each client, the company provided a milestone
for the student and the client to adhere to. An example of the milestone is attached below
in Figure 3.1.

Figure 3.1: Example Milestone
7
3.2 Procedures of Halal Application
When a task was given to the student, the student needs to email the client the
milestone and the relevant forms to them. The client’s email and phone number were
given to the students in order for the student to be able to contact the client. The milestone
needs to be authorized by the client to show that they are willing and agree to adhere to
the milestone. The forms given comprises of the company profile, the workers record and
the raw materials ingredients. All of these forms need to be filled by the clients as it is
needed for the submission of Halal application. A checklist was also given to the client
for all the relevant documents that are needed for the submission

3.3 FOSIM Account
Whenever a food business operates, they need their premise to be registered to the
Food Safety Quality division, (FSQ) of the Ministry of Health (MOH). This is the
prerequisite for any certifications that any food business need in order to open a food
business in Malaysia. Most of the time, these Small Medium Enterprise (SME) do not
know about this, so the student was asked to open the account for them. This can be done
through a website, Food Safety Information System of Malaysia (FOSIM). FOSIM is a
go to website for all the food related business owners in Malaysia. In this website, a
company can request for Skim Latihan Pengendali Makanan (SLPM), GMP certification,
MESTI certification, HACCP certification and etc.
Figure 3.2: FOSIM Front Page
3.4 My eHalal Portal
My eHalal portal is a website from Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM)
for Halal Applications in Malaysia. To register an account in this website, the address, the
Sistem Suruhanjaya Syarikat (SSM) number of the company and the nature of business
of the company is needed hence is it very important for the client to give all of these
important details to the student. After the account is registered, the student needs to fill
all the relevant details that are needed for the halal submission. Amongst the details that
are needed are, the company record of workers and the raw materials of each product
(provided that the nature of business is food production).
Figure 3.3: Front Page of My eHalal portal
3.5 Halal Portal
Halal portal is also a website from JAKIM. This is website for all the citizen of
Malaysia. In this website, people can find the halal certification for every food product
that are certified under JAKIM. This website is very helpful because any suspicion or
doubt regarding a food product can be checked in this website. This is also a very helpful
website for a consultant, this is because the student can find all the halal certificates of the
raw materials that the clients are using in this website. These certificates are needed for
the halal submission application so it very important that the student notify the customer
to make sure that there is a Halal logo imprinted on the packaging of the raw materials
that they are using. For overseas raw materials, the client needs to ask for the halal
certificates from the supplier as there is no such a way for the student to get a hold of the
overseas halal certificates.
Figure 3.4: Halal Portal Front Page
3.6 Site Visit and Pre-audit
Whenever a client was assigned by the company to the student, the student needs to visit
the premise first to observe how the client operates and guide them on how it should be.
Most of the time, it’s the structure and the placement of the machineries and tools that are
needed to be corrected. The placements of the toilets are needed to be configured as it is
not ideal for the door of the toilet to be exposed straight to the production area as
contaminations may occur. This is where it gets a little tricky as certain clients have a
small premise and further renovations would only make the premise even smaller.
Another thing that needs to be considered is the flow movement of the workers as cross
contamination might happen. So, the placements of the workstations need to be arranged
to meet the specific requirement to abide the regulations and to ensure no cross
contamination will happen.
After all the work has been done, and all the documentations are complete, the
student will need to visit the premise once again for pre-audit. This is the final visit of the
premise before the application is submitted to JAKIM. In this visit, the audit of JAKIM is
simulated by the student and any nonconformities will be listed. The student will make a
report of the audit and will send the report to the client for the client to do the corrections
needed. The client is needed to send the confirmation of the correction that are made by
them to the student in a week to show that the premise already complies with the
requirements that JAKIM has given. After all is well, the application is submitted through
the Halal Portal and the student task for the company is done.

CHAPTER 4
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
4.1 Conclusion
Industrial training is a new era for students in taking and deepening the experience
in the real work situation which gives some benefits and opportunities to students in
dealing with problems and carrying out assigned responsibilities. In addition, it is a
platform for students to process and practice the knowledge they have learned for 8
semesters.
However, for each new norm encountered by students, the balance in each
organization or field that students are involved in has various ways and problems that will
be encountered in maintaining the balance of the organization or field. In the opportunity
to undergo industrial training, the students can identify the problems that organizations
face to keep each part of the operation running in an orderly and structured manner.
Therefore, students need to be smart in reading and learning an environment that
every organization experiences. Each field involved must have skills and expertise in that
field in producing or producing efficient work. While undergoing industrial training, there
are a number of problems that can be seen as a trainee. The problems need to be addressed
so that the organization can improve the smooth running of tasks and responsibilities in
each part of the organization.
