Chevrolet NO.J-21474-13.
• Camshaft gear remover adapter (type 2) -
Chevrolet NO.J-21795-1.

General precautions
• Disconnect battery ground cable.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with
timing gear(s) removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn crankshaft in normal direction of rotation
(unless otherwise stated).
• If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position
(CKP) sensor before removal.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
gears.
• Observe all tightening torques.,

Valve timing procedures


• Engine No.4 cylinder at TDC of compression
stroke.
• Crankshaft gear timing mark at 11 o'clock
position D.
• Align camshaft gear timing mark fJ and install.
• Check camshaft thrust clearance is
0.0015-0.0050 in. 8.
• If clearance is less than 0.0015 in. replace
spacer rings.
• If clearance is more than 0.0050 in. replace
thrust plate.

• Disconnect battery ground lead.
• Do NOT turn ,crankshaft or camshaft with
timing chain removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn engine in normal direction of rotation
(unless otherwise stated).
• If required: Mark position of crankshaft position
(CKP) sensor before removal.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
sprockets.
• Observe tightening torques.

an assembly.

• Crankshaft sprocket puller - cover MUST be discarded and replaced with
Chevrolet NO.J-5825-A. new part.
• Crankshaft sprocket installer -
Chevrolet NO.J-5590.
• Flywheel/drive plate locking tool -
Chevrolet NO.J-37096.

General precautions
• Disconnect battery ground lead.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with
timing chain removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn engine in normal direction of rotation
(unless otherwise stated).
• If required: Mark position of crankshaft position
(CKP) sensor before removal.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
sprockets.

installation.

chain installation.
NOTE: If camshaft sprockets removed apply
thread locking compound to camshaft
sprocket bolts before installation.

• Retract lower timing chain tensioner and lock
using a pin 19.
• Install the timing chain tensioner and remove the
pin. Tightening torque: 97 in.lbs.
NOTE: Camshafts can be turned without
valves contacting pistons when crankshaft
set at 90° BTDC No.1 cylinder.
