UNIVERSITI KEBANGSAAN MALAYSIA VICE-CHANCELLOR SCHOLARSHIP
GUIDELINES
1.0 Application General Terms
1.1. Vice-Chancellor UKM Scholarships are being offered to attract prospective students locally and
abroad to pursue Masters and Doctoral degree. We offer two types of scholarships: UKM Vice-
Chancellor’s Gold and Silver Scholarships, respectively.
1.2. The application for these scholarships are open to all local and international prospective
postgraduate students who have outstanding academic achievement records to further their
studies in UKM.
1.3. Both scholarships applications are open to full time prospective postgraduate students who wish to
register in full research or mixed modes (min research: coursework ratio 70:30).
1.4. Application is opened to new upcoming UKM students who have registered online.
1.5. Applicants must not receive any assistance/scholarships from any sponsor/ Federal/State or any
other Statutory Bodies.
1.6. Applicants must not receive any salary or allowance or other payment from any institution or
company.
1.7. Selected scholarship recipients must maintain high quality of performance throughout postgraduate
studies. If the recipient does not meet the prescribed Key Performance Index (KPI) then the
granting of scholarship may be terminated or any other decision as determined by the selection
committee.
2.0 Scholarship and Application Criteria
2.1 Gold Vice-Chancellor’s Award
2.1.1 Selected scholarship recipients shall be eligible for:
i. Waived tuition (every semester), registration (one-time), service and activities (including
thesis and convocation) fees;
ii. Living allowance of RM3200.00 per month for PhD. and RM2200.00 for Masters;
iii. Accommodation allowance of RM300.00 per month;
iv. One roundtrip flight ticket (economy class) to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
from home country and to home country from KLIA for International, Sabahan and
Sarawakian candidates;
v. Cost of visa throughout postgraduate studies (International students only).
2.1.2 Application Criteria
i. Excellent local and international students depends on the decision of the Vice-Chancellor
of UKM; or
ii. Outstanding local and international students selected by the Selection Committee who
meet the following qualifications:

a) Applicant ought to be registered as fulltime postgraduate student by Research or
Mixed Mode (research: coursework ratio 70:30).
b) For MSc applicant, candidates must have obtained Bachelor’s Degree with
Distinction CGPA of at least of 3.67 or a First Class Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
from a reputable university AND must show credibility as a scholar.
c) For PhD applicant, candidates must have obtained Master’s degree or equivalent
from a reputable university; MUST have published at least TWO (2) articles in Q2
journal and above as first student author. For PhD Fast Track, candidates must
fulfill the criteria in 2.1.2 ii b).
2.2 Silver Vice-Chancellor’s Award
2.2.1 Selected scholarship recipients shall be eligible for:
i. Waived registration (one-time) and tuition (every semester) fees;
ii. Living allowance of RM2000.00 per month for PhD. and RM1500.00 for Masters
candidates;
iii. Accommodation allowance of RM300.00 per month.
2.2.2 Application Criteria:
Outstanding local and international students selected by the Selection Committee who meet the
following qualifications:
a) Applicant ought to be registered as fulltime postgraduate student by Research or Mixed
Mode (research: coursework ratio 70:30).
b) For MSc applicant, candidates must have obtained Bachelor’s Degree with Distinction
CGPA of at least of 3.67 or a First Class Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a reputable
university AND must show credibility as a scholar.
c) For PhD applicant, candidates must have obtained Master’s degree or equivalent from a
reputable university; MUST have published at least TWO (2) articles in Q3 journal and
above as first student author. For PhD Fast Track, candidate must fulfill the criteria in
2.2.2 b).
3.0 Application Procedure
3.1 Applicants will need to download and complete the application form from the UKM Graduate Centre
website. The application form along with the required supporting documents should be emailed to
[email protected]. Incomplete applications will be considered unsuccessful and will be
notified to the applicant.
3.2 The application processing and evaluation process is summarized in the attached flow chart.
3.3 All application will be evaluated by the University’s Selection Committee.
3.4 Successful or unsuccessful applications will be notified.

4.0 Terms of Scholarship Acceptance and Extension
4.1 The typical period for scholarship acceptance is as follows:
i. Doctor of Philosophy of research mode - six (6) semesters;
ii. Doctor of Philosophy of mixed mode - six (6) semesters;
iii. Master of research mode - four (4) semesters;
iv. Master of mixed mode - two (2) semesters or within the period prescribed by the program of
study.
However, the Selection Committee may consider the scholarship application for a semester.
4.2 Recipients are required to pay full attention to the study. The recipient is not allowed to perform
other activities that may affect his or her education.
4.3 Achievement Evaluation of Gold and Silver Vice-Chancellor's performance will be held during the
study term (annually) and if the recipient does not satisfy the Key Performance Indicator (KPI)
provided then the scholarship maybe terminated or any other decision as determined by the
Selection Committee.
4.4 The ANNUAL KPI of the Vice-Chancellor's Gold Scholarship
i. Master's KPI:
Published one (1) article in journal Q2 and above as first student author.
ii. Doctor of Philosophy’s KPI
Published two (2) articles in journal Q2 and above as first student author.
4.5 The ANNUAL KPI of the Vice-Chancellor's Silver Scholarship Recipients
i. Master’s KPI:
Published one (1) article in journal Q3 and above as first student author.
ii. Doctor of Philosophy’s KPI:
Published two (2) articles in journal Q3 and above as first student author.
4.6 Scholarship recipients are subject to University Rules and Regulations and other regulations in
force at UKM from time to time.
