Subject:
This document presents important checks and tasks to take care before upgrading geoNEXT
II system 4.5.1 or 4.7.3 Patch 3 to GN4.
For the 1.0.9 upgrade a most of the hardware will be changed (computers and CAM), the
information backup are mentioned on paragraph 3. Acquisition
Three main steps
Backups to perform on geoNEXT system (1.0.9, 4.5.1 and 4.7.3)
Installation
GN4 Start up: backups restore
NB1: Please read this complete procedure before doing
anything for the swap
NB2: Never upgrade the system version during an operation
(database imcompatibilty between 4.5.1 and GN4). A time
Window must be found before the operation starts (3 days
minimum)

1. Backups “metier” on geoNEXT 4.5.1 system (or 4.7.3 )

The upgrade conducts to certain drive formatting:

C: drive on all computers
Z: on the GNAMASTER
T: On the DATABASE
T: On the GNASLAVE

Two cases could be experienced:

1.1 Case 1: System upgrade while rig stays with the same CLIENT
- Copy all databases backup and all geodata backups on the GNASLAVE
T:\Backup on an external hard drive.
- Screenshot setup panel tabs:
o activity thresholds
o Pits volumes active
o Pump and Flows (pump selection)
- Backup all vigigraphic templates (UPF) used during the campain with the
geoNEXT task to do on all GNE and GNS.

- Client Logo
- On Z:\geodata\images\ backup the folder use for the lithology in case of
symbols customization.

After GN4 installation restore the needed input (enter the activity thresholds) and restore
files on dedicate folders.

1.2 Case 2: Upgrade while the CLIENT is changing

- Backup all database and all backups on an external hard drive. Thos backups
need to be sent to GEC according well confidentiality.
- Screenshot the activity thresholds define on the setup panel
- Backup all vigigraphic templates (UPF) used
- Backup all reportings on CD or DVD according Final delivery procedure
- Backup rig fingerprint: Flowbacks, Degaser start, trip tank pump start and top
etc…

NB: At this stage all machine must be clear of all information relative to previous
Client: Database, Backups, Business, well program(s), report….

2. Acquistion Backup on geoNEXT 4.5.1 system (or 4.7.3) and

geoNEXT 1.0.9

- Make sure a Sensor setup report is done before switch off the geoNEXT II
system or on the GNA for geoNEXT 1.0.9.
NB: For all CH4 sensors (TG measurement points) a bug is known. The output in Euc
in the report as you can see in the below example. So screen shot the calibration screen
for those sensor types.

- Rig Builder: Screen shot all Facilities declaration: surface lines properties like
SPP, choke and kill line, flow line (diameters, length), riser characeterisitics
etc.…..
NB: THE RIG TEMPLATE FROM 4.5.1 or 4.7.4 ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH
GN4, FACILITIES HAS BEEN CHANGED
- WITS connections: Screen Shot all WITS client, opening the complete setup
(address plus the Wits file configuration used).
Following steps exclude 1.0.9 version:
- Backup WITS sender and receiver xml from
Z:\geodata\YourBusiness\Field_1.FLD\Well_1.WEL\COM|WITS folder
- Make sure the System layout is up to date, including TCP/IP address and Port
use for the two Reserval, Flair Acquisition PC etc…
- Backup the host files on the GNAMASTER in: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc.
- Back up the drill pipe catalog if a specific one is in use. Go in:
Z:\geodata\users\tdc, there is an xml file of catalogue previously exported from
Drill String editor. Copy this file in the new geodata and try to import from Drill
String Editor (on the top there are 2 buttons to import and export).

3. GN4 installation

- Resotre the CFI images using BART PE for the Core Sysytem
- Format the Z drive of the GNAMASTER
- Format T drive on the DATABASE
- Install GN4 nstallation according its documentation: Extra care need to be
brought on:

New feature activation; safenet key on the DATABASE.

CAM IP and Port settings : change the IP in

z:\geodata\aquisitions\AcqSystemManager.ini according the one dset on the CAM :
remind Dafault settings IP: 192.168.166.30 Port:10001 declare as
Parameters=192.168.166.30:10001
Perform a ping from the GNAMASTER to make sure the CAM is part of the network

DATABASE installation in case of Thema service with G2U:Creation of

“Replication” shared folder, install the ISS service for FTP with WinSERVER2003
DVD and service declaration as per procedure

- Restore the HOST file (replacing existing file) on the GNAMASTER,
GNASLAVE and DATABASE in: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
- Restore WINXP image on all GNE , DO NOT FORMAT other drive: Data, Bart
or Ghost

GNE and GNS: Restore the WINXP image. Do not format other drive (D or E). Install GN4.
Reconfigure station using appropriate backup.

4. Hardware
GN4 NEED TO BE INSTALLED WITH A CAM :
CONCENTRATOR WITH RS232-TCPIP
CONVERTER MIGHT BE USED AS SPARE

2.1 CAM’s settings

- If your CAM is connected to a different IP and Port that the default one, change
the IP in Z:\geodata\aquisitions\AcqSystemManager.ini.
- Open the file “AcqSystemManager.ini” under:
Z:\geodata\YourBusiness\Field_1.FLD\Well_1.WEL\acquisitions.
- Check the line Parameters and note the IP and Port number of your CAM.
- Parameters=192.168.166.30:10001 (by default).
2.2 First business creation
- Create a Test Business with Business Managenment
- Change business to the TEST. GNA Master should reboot on its own. After
reboot, map the GNA Slave and the DATABASE computer.
- Create the Rig Builder from scratch using the screen shots requested
previously.
- Restore the Sensor calibration from the sensor setup report; Do it manually,
reading the report.
- Restore Wits connection using the dedicate XML files used, except geoNEXT2U
sender files: Use the new config file provide on this version.
- Restore customize lithology if it is the case (same client with special desiderata)

5. GN4 operation start up

- Create your business for the coming wells; by using the option create a Business
from an existing business (TEST).
- Change buisnees to the just created one.
- The GNAMASTER will reboot on its own.
- Restart GNASLAVE and DATABASE.
