Situation/Problem/Opportunity:
Agriculture is the backbone for the development of any country and plays a significant role in the
economy. Yet, in this current technology-driven era, most of the farmers in the Philippines, a developing
country that depends on agriculture for economic growth, still relies on manual labor and conventional
farming methods and equipment. This inadequacy results in inefficient work, decreased crop production
yield, and low economic impact (Alave, 2012). This pandemic makes everything stop. Production, work,
supply of all essentials is stopped due to safety precautions taken for each resident. In 2016, a region in
Central Mindanao called SOCCSKSARGEN suffered a decrease in palay and corn production. The
productions were down by 7.05% and 7.06% respectively. A recent investigation about irrigation rice farming
in Ilo-Ilo showed that water was a major constraint to higher productivity. Water deficiency was the most
powerful source of yield loss and decreased production that is measured to be about 50% in one season
(Bureau of Agricultural Research, 2004). Traditional farming methods are to cause for such water shortages
and poor water timing. This scenario just demonstrates the necessity for innovative ideas that will result in
more efficient and productive water output, as well as alternatives to improve water delivery methods and
technology. Having a low supply of food to survive and live despite of the pandemic happening right now.
This is a major problem since poverty is present all around the world. This makes the crisis more serious
than what it looks like. Not having enough of food supply might result to malnourishment of the children and
worst-case scenario might result to death. The group has an opportunity to resolve this kind of problem and
help the community to live peacefully. This is an opportunity despite of the pandemic happening right now.
Since the pandemic started, the supply of food gradually decreases especially in agriculture. This project
might help to solve this part of problem, this will ensure that the plant/rice will get enough nutrients and will
always have enough water for what it needs which will be the key to grow the rice healthy and to be
harvested on its designated timeframe. This will allow the younger generation to practice precision farming
with ease and convenience. The system, if implemented in maximum fields, will generate vast amounts of
data that can be used for data mining and further research in this field. This framework will conserve all the
major resources by utilizing them more.
Purpose Statement (Goals):
This section defines the intended outcome or result of the project that will give it purpose and direction. State the
outcome/result of the solution that you or your group intends to develop to address the problems or opportunities
identified within your community/school.
Objectives/Deliverables:
Objectives/Deliverables are the specific, measurable, and time-bound outputs of the project that are stated in terms of the
solutions that agency staff and stakeholders will experience.
Methods/Approach:
State the major specific steps necessary to achieve the objectives and deliverables of the project, with a combine focus
on both the IT (technical) and non-IT (policy and/or managerial) steps required. List steps sequentially, with responsible
parties noted.
