Twin towns or sister cities are towns or cities which have agreed to collaborate with each other. Twinning
arrangements often lead to student exchanges. Next month, Mascara is going to play host to a group of students
from its twin town Elkader City, a city in the American state of Iowa. Twinned since
1984 with the Algerian city of Mascara. The students are arriving in Oran international
Airport on Sunday January, 17. The Mayor of Mascara is now talking with the public
officer in charge of the organization of the visit.
Mayor: Have you completed the programme for Elkader City students’ visit?
Public officer: Yes, everything is going well. We’ve arranged the accommodation in
the Royal Hotel. The visit will start on Monday morning with a reception at the hotel.
You’re giving the opening speech at the central library of Mustapha Stambouli
University at 9:00 a.m. Then we plan to take our visitors to the Al Emir Abd El Kader
Monument and Museum.
Mayor: It sounds fine. What other places are they going to visit?
Public officer: On Tuesday, they’re visiting the place where Al Emir Abd El Kader was elected as an Algerian
Prince, Mudjahid and Captain of War in Ghriss, El Dardara Tree in the morning. We’re going to take them to El
Khessibia Forest Park for lunch as a picnic. As soon as they finish lunch, we’ll show them Zemala Al Emir Abd El
Kader in Sidi Kada, where his parents and grandparents were buried after their death.
Mayor: That looks good. Have you planned any tours at Mascara city and to Hammam Bouhanifia?
Public officer: Yes, of course, our guests are visiting Mascara city tomorrow and Hammam Bouhanifia in the day
after tomorrow.
