I was thrilled that I got a full-time job after my masters to expand my practical experience—a lot of
challenges I encountered while working. I didn't have much experience in the structural engineering field.
Initially, I used to spend more time to understand drawing and develop my knowledge from google search.
I was trying to get help from my manager when I realized that the fabrication we are doing is wrong. I have
found out a lot of mistakes while doing quality checks. My primary responsibility was maintaining the
quality of the product as per Australian Standard As 4100. Now I am 95% confident enough to find out
mistakes in the fabrication and rectify it before it happens.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness

Now I have a clear idea which is the critical factor s for fabrication and installation of the structural job. I
understood those from mistakes and continuous observations. Now I can provide an estimated time to
hand over the product the clients by calculating different factors. And also understand and learned how to
improved the quality of the product. I used to get help my company staff and professional working in this
industry for a long time. I gradually learned about Australian standards and work ethics which helped a lot
perform well in the company.

My main job was to do quality and dimension checks of the product before, during and after fabrication
and welding. Some of the structures were cost around A$ 50, 000. Initially, it was tough to understand the
critical parts. After gradual research and learning, I understood the critical area where I need to focus
more. I can spend more time on those tasks. I started to learn how to use the tool, as well. That helped me
to identify mistakes and rectify them. I used to identify the symbol and notes from drawing carefully and
highlight it before issuing drawing to the workshop to reduce the fabrication errors.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness

I was trying to avoid the mistake that happened once. And record in my mobile notes about critical
matters. So, I can cross-check for the whole time. And Use of computer segregates the data, especially
using Microsoft excel.

I started to expand my knowledge by doing ordering raw materials and inspecting the deliveries. Started to
make drawings for Technical query. Initially, it was hard to get used to it. Later on, I spend more time on
tutorials and YouTube videos to extract the drawings and models' data. I spend more time from home
during night develop drawings. It was so interesting.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness

Now I know that I can how long to produce a drawing AutoCAD. So, I can give my manager and client a
clear idea of how long it will take to make the drawing. I already have all the record of tools operation in
the software.

I always to like face challenges. So Ia sked my manager shall I started to tack small structure, which helps to
gain more practical experience. After getting approval from him, Initially, I fabricated stub of the box beam.

manufacture it. But I removed all the tack and learned from mistakes and fabricated structure with almost
everything perfect in shape. I understood that instead of looking to the structure, need to fabricate it ti
under the difficulties.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness

I understand the lead time to fabricate each part to assemble a structure, which immensely helped me to
work as a project coordinator. I asked my manager to give me more opportunities to fabricate the steel
frame. He agreed to do that after my routine job.

This week, I started to help the quality assurance officer close the Manufactures data Record; I am
spending most of my time in the factory, so I know what was happening by different phases. Initially, it was
a bit difficult to understand the technical term mentioned in the MDR. Later on, with the QA officer's help
and google, I learned how to add the data in the record and comply with the Australian Standard. It was a
new exposure to learn about new things.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness

When I spoke with clients, they always wanted to know the status of quality documents. Because of quality
documents have the same importance as fabrication. Quality reports determine whether to accepts the
product or not by the client. Now I understand different stages to complete the information and awareness
of how long it will take to generate it.

This week, I was mainly focus of assembling the plunge columns beams for trial fitting and match marcking.
First beams when I was trying to be marking had some issues. We can put the splice plates in order so it
wouldn’t match properly. Then I started to match mark according beam number as well as alphabets. So, it
was 100% accurate to identify the plates along with beam sides.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness

I thought match marking, and assembly was easy. Later on, I understood that some mistake we did. That’s
the reason it took more time. So When next time has a similar job, I know how to avoid such mistakes and
how long it will take to do it.

This week I used to work for documentation mainly to create Inspection (ITP) and Test plan as well as a
safe work method statement (SWMS) after my routine job. I used to create a template for each job
refereeing old documents and real-life experience while on site. I read many PDF documents and did a lot
of brainstorming to develop a template for each job. I forwarded my ITP and SWMS template to my
manager to review it. He said I need to improve a little bit on it. So far, it is good as considering your first
attempt.

I want to spend more time reading the scope of work from each client and studying drawings. So, I can
make better on documentation. And also, I started to involve in creating small job ITPs and SWMS’s. IT will
help to develop useful knowledge in that area later.

This week I mainly used to do focus on dimension checks and quality checks. A lot of complicated structure
was there to check the dimension on each stage. I was in charge of replacing the welding wire 3.2 to 2.4
mm to start a new project using stainless steel and used to get the clear idea about what to be taken care
of while doing the stainless-steel welding in a mild steel fabrication workshop to avoid contamination.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness

I spend more time to analyze the drawings because it was a bit complicated than usual drawings. Then I
started to mark on my findings and critical data. That only way I can improve my work performance.

This week I started to make more steel structure as per drawing after my routine job. I bought new tools
worth of 350$ to fabricate the structures. This tool helped me to do setting up the structure fast. I spent
more time on drawings to find out the easiest way to create the structures.

My manager told me to make a permit for a load going from Sydney to Adelaide for wide load. It was
difficult job. I did not know much information about logistics. I read National Heavy Vehicle Manual and
find out what are the restrictions. I created account in their system and filled all the data by checking
manuals. I was trying to find out road which accessible to wide load and created a new route in the system.
After one day effort, I successfully lodged application.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness

I learned a lot from mistakes and sometimes used to have advised from professional who work in that
industry. Now I know what the prerequisite required to apply for the permit are. So, it would be easy.

This week I mainly focused on stainless steel welding. Because we are fabricating mild steel beams in our
workshop. Stainless steel beam fabrication in mild steel environment was very hard. Stainless steel gets
contaminated with the presence of mild steel contents. So, I was in charge of setting up of one workshop
completely for Stainless steel. We bought new tools, equipment’s and cleaned areas to do Stainless steel. I
was getting information from Welding inspector, google documents to establish a complete set up for
Stainless steel. I spend more time on this job rather than my routine job.

Reflect upon how you could improve your work performance or job readiness.

I can improve my time for setting up the workshop for Stainless Steel. Now, I knew the factors critical to set
up the stainless steel in a mild steel fabrication environment. Hope I can perform much better than this
time and note down for my future reference.

started to give more task. I think after sometime I can be good to manage projects.
