Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter presents the Introduction, Background of the Study, Statement of

the Problem, Scope and Delimitation, and Significance of the Study.

Introduction

Nowadays we no longer pay attention to the clutter we see around us. This

may be due to the fact that people don’t carry clutter so they don’t pay attention

to it anymore. Or others may not care about trash, perhaps quickly breaking

down their used trash and can only be used once. The Advantages of Bringing

Eco - bag to all students in grade 11 will help us to so we know what will happen

when we do it.

Background of the Study

The use of eco-bags is known as a great way to reduce the waste produced

by the world. It is known for advertisements that show its good effects on nature

but do not show some of the distressing effects of its misuse. Eco-bags

contribute to the aiding of the planet by wiping out the need for single use plastic

bags that have been demonstrated to hurt the mother earth. Plastic bags are

produced using petroleum and fuel extraction of fossil assets. They additionally

present a major removal issue that requires hundreds of years for plastics bags

to disappear in nature. Furthermore, burning them discharges toxic synthetic

compounds that may

affect the biodiversity, alongside with oceans, plastic waste damages various

marine species. This in turn leads to rising sea levels, increased ocean and air

toxicity, and destruction of coral reefs and other marine life. Non-toxic eco-bags,

then again, preserve the environment by innocuously biodegrading after

countless usage. One of the biggest problems of our country is the proliferation

of the use of plastic bags in various places where there are vendors, the net

reason is that when there are too many to carry then they can be used, but don't

we know that the use of plastic bags is harmful to mother nature? Does the term

"eco-friendly" or "green bags" mean that it is also good for other aspects of

society besides nature? If it is said to help the environment, what is the effect of

their use on humans?

On the authority of Temp (2019), Plastic, unlike many other modern

materials, not only requires valuable resources to produce, such as petroleum

and natural gas, but also permeates the environment on a large scale due to it is

inability to break down. Plastic bags alone take up to 1,000 years to degrade.

That is to say, break down into smaller and smaller pieces, because plastic is not

biodegradable.

Yet despite this fact, the average plastic bag is only used for about 12 minutes

before it is discarded, thus creating an unimaginable amount of plastic waste in

our homes, landfills, streets, and waterways. One of the simplest and most

economical ways to decrease our plastic consumption is by using eco-friendly

bags. The purpose of eco bags is only centered on saving nature, they do not
DEE HWA LIONG ACADEMY 4
show any potential impact of using eco bags on human health. With the help of

this research, people will know what eco-bags really bring to society.

According to Anny (2021), People who have used reusable green bags will

prefer to use them again due to their affordability and durability features. Both

paper and plastic bags have a great impact on the environment. According to the

US environmental protection agency, there is 5 percent of plastic bags that are

able to recycle. According to estimates, the production of single paper bags

requires one gallon of water and creates much more pollution. Green bags are

long-lasting and their best feature of reusing more times. Based on eco-friendly

features and keeping in view the Go Green approaches, eco green bags are

highly recommended. Some of the supermarkets have started their practices to

pay those who bring their reusable bags. The researchers believe that this

research will help people enforce the law here as well as consumers ’decision to

buy eco bags that they know are helpful to nature but hidden in their knowledge,

the impact of misuse. In fact, many agree with this proposal which is just to

agree, to somehow reduce pollution here in our country.

According to David Evans (2019) Plastic has been threatening many aspects

of life these days. With 4.8 to 12.7 million tons of plastic ending up in the world's

oceans every year, and 80 percent of that coming from land and coastlines, there

is overwhelming concern about the plastics we use in our daily lives, so what can

you do to reduce your use of plastics? One of the simplest ways to do this is to

invest in RE-USE. Reusable (1) One of the biggest advantages of using reusable
DEE HWA LIONG ACADEMY 5
grocery bags is that they are reusable! Every time you go shopping, you can take

them with you. This means that you are one less person contributing to the 500

billion to 1 trillion plastic bags that are used each year. Environmental impacts (2)

which brings us to the next advantage: the impact on the environment. Reusable

bags are much better for the environment than single-use plastic bags. Plastic

grocery bags contribute to the deaths of one million birds, 100,000 tortoises, and

other marine animals that eat plastic every year. Money Savings (3) Reusable

grocery bags have the potential to save you money, too. A lot of grocery stores

and even a lot of cities and states are starting to charge plastic bags. Instead of

spending an extra couple of bucks at the grocery store on disposable bags,

reusable bags allow you to save money on every trip. Multi-purpose (4) The

compact bag that you bring to the grocery store can also carry your work

supplies, your laundry, your beach gear, or even the contents of your purse.

Reusable bags, unlike plastic grocery bags, are stronger, more durable and can

hold more.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the impacts of eLearning alternative learning

system:

1.) What will be the impact if they were always carry an Eco - Bag?

2.) How does the Eco - Bag help our environment?

3.) Why it’s so important to students to carry an Eco – bag daily?

DEE HWA LIONG ACADEMY 6
A. What is the profile of the respondents?

 Sex

B. What are the challenges of using Eco – Bag daily?

 Take the initiative

C. Impacts that might going to experience using Eco – Bag?

 Fatigue

Scopes and Delimitation

Nowadays, the clutter in our environment is ignored because people do not

have a trash can to dispose of the garbage they see. Hence, this study focuses

of knowing advantages of using Eco-bags.

The researchers will conduct this topic encourage the grade 11 students of Dee

Hwa Liong Academy to bring Eco – bag. Bringing Eco – bag is one of the best

ways to protect our environment. It can decrease pollution, avoid recycling

problems, save money and many more. In their school days, they can use eco –

bag to bring their own books or notebooks. It will also easily for them to bring

their own heavy stuff.

Significance of the Study

The result of this study will have great benefits to the following:
DEE HWA LIONG ACADEMY 7
Students: They will Have the greatest benefits of this topic. Eco-bags will make

bringing books or notes and other important things for school. They can also use

Eco-bags by using this to bring their food or lunch.

Teachers: They will also have a benefit on this topic. By using Eco-bags they

can also use this by bringing heavy stuff for their work as a teacher.

School Administrators – The school leader/head of school will benefit from this

research because they can improve the system to reduce the number of plastic

wastes in their school through eco bags.

Future Researchers – The future researcher will benefit from this study because

they may be able to know and will help you to know what you’re up against

plastic bags and they get advantage and disadvantage information about

carrying your own eco bag.
