Decision Making in Math and Life

Decision making is an important part of daily life that requires gathering information and assessing alternatives before deciding on a course of action. Once a decision is made, it is important to stand by it despite potential consequences. Mathematics relies on decision making, such as choosing formulas and operations to solve problems. Making decisions with mathematical analysis can help rationalize information and assumptions. While decisions may not always turn out as planned, any lessons learned from failures can help with future decision making.

“Think 100 times before you take a decision, but once that

decision is taken, stand by it as one man”

~ Muhammad Ali Jinnah
When you wake up in the morning the first thing you do is to
decide whether to get up or not. Decision making is the process
of making choices by identifying a decision, gathering
information, and assessing alternative solutions. Making decision
has been a very important part of our daily lives. We make
decisions consciously and unconsciously but what we do not think
about is what comes next. One must not take making decision
lightly, and once one has decided he must face whatever
consequences that might happen along the way.
Decision making is necessary to every field and math is not
an exemption. From choosing what is the answer from the choices
in the exam into answering worded problem. To illustrate, you
were given a worded problem. In answering the problem, the first
thing you will do is to understand the problem and decide on what
formula or ways to do. The next thing to do is to make decision
what are the given that is necessary in solving the problem.
After, you should decide what is the operation or what are the
operation to be used in order to come up wit the answer. Lastly,
when you solve the problem and get the answer you should decide
if you will stand for it or change it. Mathematics and decision
making comes hand in hand. They are both beneficial to each
other. Math needs making decision to come up with an answer.
Reciprocally, in making decision math has been a very big help.
Making decision using mathematics helps us to rationalize the
sifting of information and the balancing of alternatives inherent
in any decision. Mathematical calculation also helps us to have
assumptions that is more certain compared to those assumptions
without basis.
In real life, making decision is one time chance that will
never be change for it already happen and one should face it and
never regret its decision. If that decision will result to
something good then it is good news however if it is resulted to
something bad this does not make you lose something for it gives
you the opportunity to learn something from that experience. A
lesson from a decision that was made carefully will help you to
be more careful next time that you will face the same problem
again.
To conclude, making decision requires a careful examination
of alternatives solution in order to make a good decision however
this does not always result to what we want because of
constraints and will result to failure. Let this failure be a
lesson and not a burden.
