PROGRESS REPORT

Health Program Name: Adolescent Reproductive Health Education (ARH)

Activities Implemented:
 Iron and folic Acid supplementation to grade 7-10
 Webinar entitled “Understanding female reproductive health”

Narrative Report on the implementation of Iron and Folic Acid

supplementation activities:

Anemia has been a public health problem for several years. It is common
among children, adolescent girls and women of childbearing age. Adolescent
ages 12-19 are considered prone to anemia because in this bracket
menstruation takes place and during their period they are more prone to forms
of anemia where red blood cells are lost to bleeding, which makes sense when
you think about it.

Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) supplementation has been shown to be a cost-effective
intervention for addressing anemia and starting IFA supplementation for
adolescent girls and continuing into adulthood improves girls’ iron status, and
reduces their susceptibility to acquire the said health issues.

For this reason it STA. ROSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL provided Iron + folic
Acid supplements to Grade 7-10 learners.

Narrative Report on the webinar about “Understanding female

reproductive health”:

Good sexual and reproductive health is important for women’s general health
and wellbeing. It is central to their ability to make choices and decisions about
their lives, including when, or whether, to consider having children at a very
young age.

A woman’s reproductive system is a delicate and complex system in the body. It

is important to take steps to protect it from infections and injury, and prevent
problems—including some long-term health problems. Taking care of self and
making healthy choices can help protect our learners and their loved ones.

Health Program Name: Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in Schools

(WinS) Program

Activities Implemented:
 Webinar entitled “Importance of Proper Sanitation and Good Hand Hygiene
 Proper Hand washing demonstration of Sta. Rosa National High School Faculty
and Staff

Narrative Report on webinar about “Importance of Proper Sanitation and

Good Hand Hygiene”:

Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid
getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are
spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running water.

Handwashing with soap removes germs from hands. This helps prevent
infections because: People frequently touch their eyes, nose, and mouth
without even realizing it. Germs can get into the body through the eyes, nose
and mouth and make us sick.

To prevent the spread of germs during the COVID-19 pandemic, you

should also wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or
use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to clean hands BEFORE and
AFTER:

• Touching your eyes, nose, or mouth

• Touching your mask
• Entering and leaving a public place
• Touching an item or surface that may be frequently touched by other people,
such as door handles, tables, gas pumps, shopping carts, or electronic cashier
registers/screens

For this, STA. ROSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL deems the importance of
conveying the essence of proper sanitation and practice of good hand hygiene
through webinar using google meet.

Handwashing is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from
getting sick. Learn when and how you should wash your hands to stay healthy.

Key Times to Wash Hands

You can help yourself and your loved ones stay healthy by washing your hands
often, especially during these key times when you are likely to get and spread
germs:

• Before, during, and after preparing food

• Before and after eating food
• Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick with vomiting or diarrhea
• Before and after treating a cut or wound
• After using the toilet
• After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
• After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
• After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
• After handling pet food or pet treats
• After touching garbage

Follow Five Steps to Wash Your Hands the Right Way

Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent
the spread of germs. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one
person to another and throughout an entire community—from your home and
workplace and childcare facilities

Follow these five steps every time.

1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and
apply soap.
2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of
your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy
Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

*After the discussion and demonstration, the faculty and staff will then be
asked to do a return-demonstration on how to wash hands properly.

PROGRESS REPORT

Health Program Name: National Drug Education Program (NDEP)

Activity Implemented:
• Webinar entitled “ Impact of Drug addiction to Physical and Mental Health”

Narrative report on webinar about Impact of Drug addiction to Physical

and mental Health:

Drug addiction, also called substance use disorder, is a disease that affects a
person's brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of a
legal or illegal drug or medication. Substances such as alcohol, marijuana and
nicotine also are considered drugs. When you're addicted, you may continue
using the drug despite the harm it causes.

Drug addiction can start with experimental use of a recreational drug in social
situations, and, for some people, the drug use becomes more frequent. For
others, particularly with opioids, drug addiction begins with exposure to
prescribed medications, or receiving medications from a friend or relative who
has been prescribed the medication.

The effects of the drug on the body can depend on how the drug is delivered.
For example, the injection of drugs directly into the bloodstream has an
immediate impact, while ingestion has a delayed effect. But all misused drugs
affect the brain. They cause large amounts of dopamine, a neurotransmitter
that helps regulate our emotions, motivation and feelings of pleasure, to flood
the brain and produce a “high.” Eventually, drugs can change how the brain
works and interfere with a person’s ability to make choices, leading to intense
cravings and compulsive drug use. Over time, this behavior can turn into a
substance dependency, or drug addiction.

STA. ROSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL is one with the aim of Department of
Education and Philippine National Police to educate young learners and enable
them to understand how drug addiction ruins people’s lives particularly the
young generation of our country.

Health Program Name: Medical, Nursing and Dental Services

Activities implemented:
• Temperature and blood pressure checking for Sta. Rosa National High School
Faculty and Staff
• Vitamin C, Alcohol and Face Mask distribution for Sta. Rosa National High
School Faculty and Staff

Narrative report on Temperature and blood pressure checking for Sta.

Rosa National High School Faculty and Staff:

Vital signs are measurements of the body's most basic functions. The four
main vital signs routinely monitored by medical professionals and health care
providers include the following:

• Body temperature
• Pulse rate
• Respiration rate (rate of breathing)
• Blood pressure (Blood pressure is not considered a vital sign, but is often
measured along with the vital signs.)

Vital signs are useful in detecting or monitoring medical problems. But in times
of Covid19, it is vital to monitor Body temperature and blood pressure.

Body temperature may be abnormal due to fever (high temperature) or

hypothermia (low temperature). A fever is indicated when body temperature
rises about one degree or more over the normal temperature of 98.6 degrees
Fahrenheit which is one symptom of Covid19 virus.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, directly increases the risk of heart

attack, heart failure, and stroke. With high blood pressure, person is also at
high risk of acquiring Covid19 virus.

With this, STA. ROSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL provided nursing services
such as temperature and blood pressure checking for the faculty and staff with
the help of the school nurse.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world. During times of stress and
uncertainty, it can be easy to fall into bad habits, neglecting already
established healthy routines. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle supports your
mind and body, making you better equipped to deal with the difficulties posed
by the coronavirus pandemic.

Maintaining a healthy immune system is more important than ever and

vitamin C is one supplement we should always consider to maintain on a
regular basis. Vitamin C contributes to immune defense by supporting various
cellular functions of both the innate and adaptive immune system. Vitamin C
supports epithelial barrier function against pathogens and promotes the
oxidant scavenging activity of the skin, thereby potentially protecting against
environmental oxidative stress. As a result our body gains extra protection
from bacteria and viruses which is vital in the fight against Covid19 virus.

Moreover, in battling Covid-19 efficient mask should be used as part of a

comprehensive strategy of measures to suppress transmission and save lives;
practice of physical distancing alone is not sufficient to provide an adequate
level of protection against COVID-19.

Finally, handwashing remains one of the best ways to prevent the spread of
Coronavirus (COVID-19). However, it must be done properly and with soap and
water. When soap and water are not available, the next best option is to use an
alcohol-based hand sanitizer to prevent the spread of the virus. Your sanitizer
should contain at least 60% alcohol.

As part of protecting teachers who are also considered as frontliners, STA.

ROSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL provided free supply of Vitamin C (Ascorbic
Acid/ Sodium Ascorbate), 70% Alcohol and 1 box of disposable mask to faculty
and staff.

School closures and learning loss during the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

pandemic can have a long-term negative impact on the current cohort of school
children. Global evidence from past health and disaster-related emergencies
show that the impact extends well beyond the period of the disaster or
pandemic. It is also likely to affect the children’s economic potential and
productivity in adulthood, thus undermining the country’s competitiveness. Ok
sa DepEd implementation in STA.ROSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL note
analyzes key issues related to the current schooling and learning situation and
proposes programs that maybe beneficial to prepare for in-person schooling
when this is possible. STA. ROSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL is one with the
Department of Education and the Department of Health in nurturing not just
the cognitive aspect but also the physical health of the learners and the school
faculty and staff.
