The document contains a statistics final exam with 4 questions: 1) A hypothesis test to compare the mean weight of a sample of 55 newborns to the population mean of 7 lbs. 2) A hypothesis test to compare the mean harvest of plants treated with a new fertilizer to an increase of 2.5 kg above the untreated mean. 3) A test of independence to determine if egg color preference depends on size of carton purchased using a contingency table. 4) Computation and interpretation of the correlation coefficient between number of student absences and final grade based on data from 7 students.

standard deviation of 0.75lbs. A researcher takes a sample of 55 newly born babies and
found to have a mean weight of 6.73 lbs. Test the claim at 0.05 level of significance.

2. An agronomist believes that a newly developed fertilizer will increase the mean harvest
of eggplants by more than 2.5 kg. fifty-six plants were treated with fertilizer and had a
mean harvest of 10.5 kg with standard deviation of 1.2 kg. Forty-nine plants were
untreated and had a mean harvest of 9.25 kg with standard deviation of 0.7 kg. Test the
claim at α = 0.05 level of significance.

The table shows the number of cartons sold for the various sizes and colors during a

Is egg color preference dependent on the size purchased? Test at 0.05 significance level.

4. Compute the value of the correlation coefficient for the date obtained in the study of the
number of students’ absences and the final grade of the seven students in Business Statistics
class. Interpret the result.
