II. Rationale:
The Lagao National High School Extension conducted the READ
(Read, Enjoy and Development)Program, wherein students will enhance their skills
in reading comprehension.
          This program will be conducted for the school year 2020-2021, the program
conducted last April 2020. The school conducted its Reading assessment to all
grade 7 and grade 8 students of Lagao National High School Extension. The
objective of this program is to determine the reading readiness level of the learner
and level of proficiency of the learner. The principal elements that make teaching

and learning possible and attainable are the teachers, the learners, and a conducive
learning environment. The teacher serves as the prime mover of the educational
wheel. The learners are the key participants in the learning process. The favourable
environment provides essential features and ingredients that could make headway in
guiding the processes.
From these gestures, we the Reading Team / Teachers experience
how to handle and adjust different personalities, characters, the comprehension level
of our students, we could say that in dealing children we should be fair enough and
have more patient for the slow learners. Through this experiences we have develop
interest, communication skills of each individuals.
Good beginning reading instruction teaches children how to identify words,
comprehend text, achieve fluency, and develop the motivation to read. Whole
language approaches focus on comprehension and meaning, while phonics
approaches focus on word identification and decoding – or sounding out – words.
The principal elements that make teaching and learning possible and
attainable are the teachers, the learners, and a conducive learning environment. The

IV. METHODOLOGY
The models of delivery on this activity are:

Lagao National High School Extension has 182 learners as of school
year 2020-2021. the online reading assessment was done starting June 14-
25, 2021. All teachers were given a task to conduct an online assessment to
a particular group of learners assessed in Filipino and English from Grade 7-
9. The way of conducting the assessment are through phone call and group
chats. There were some students who had not been reached due to
unavailability of gadgets nor access online. Anecdotal report has been made
by the respective teachers stating the reasons and the solutions. After the
result of the online assessment, teachers grouped together the learners
under Frustration, Instructional and Independent Level.

Print Awareness
 Help the child learn to hold a book correctly.
 As you read the books together, emphasize the fact that you’re reading from
front to back and from left to right. Let your child turn the pages
Letter Knowledge
 Sing the alphabet song together. Practice starting at different letters.
 Use activities that help children recognize both uppercase and lowercase
letters.
 Begin to encourage an association between names and the sounds they
make.
Phonological Awareness
 Read lots of Nursery rhymes and rhyming picture books together. Encourage
the student to anticipate rhyme as you read together.

 Before formal instruction in reading begins, students can already recognize
certain words, especially those occurring frequently in their environment.

IV. Activities for Reading Disabilities


A. Functional Activities
 Letter Art
 Assign a letter for your students to paint or draw-maybe a letter the had
trouble writing or one they often mistake for a different letters.
 Encourage them to make it as colorful and creative as they want.
 Once they’ve finished, have them share their art with the class.
 Use Letter/Sound Flash Cards
 Purchase a pack of cards and write an alphabet letter n one side and the
sound it makes on the other.
 With practice and repetition, students with reading disabilities will begin to
see a pattern between print letters and their specific sounds.
 Word Bank
 Students are tasked to write on an index card words that he can not read
and will look its meaning in the dictionary. Each card will be filled
alphabetically.
