How To Link ODBC Table in Micromine - GIS Tutorial

This document discusses how to link an ODBC table in Micromine. It explains that linking allows connection to various database systems through ODBC rather than importing data. The steps shown in a video demonstrate creating an ODBC link to connect a Microsoft Access database to Micromine. Benefits of linking include support for local, networked and cloud databases while keeping data editing and management in the source database.

Hello everyone, welcome to the Micromine

Tutorial for beginners
(http://freegistutorial.com/complete-
micromine-tutorial-beginners/). In the
following article, I am going to show you how
to create a link to an ODBC in Micromine.
You will also learn how to update the link
from the original source to the Micromine. In
the previous article, you may read how to
import the Microsoft Access tables to
Micromine.

Instead of importing, we are going to create

a link to the Microsoft Access table. There
are some differences between importing and

linking. When you are importing a table from

another database such as Microsoft Access
to Micromine, you will have full control of the
data. You can change the column name, edit
the data directly in Micromine. On the other
hand, when we are linking to a table, we
cannot edit the link table in Micromine. All
the edits must be done in the source
database.

The Benefits of Using ODBC Link in

Micromine

There are some benefits when we use the

ODBC Link in Micromine rather than
importing the tables.

Supports various database systems.

You can connect MySQL, MS Access,
SQL Server, PostgreSQL to Micromine
via ODBC

Support both local and cloud

connection. No matter if you connect
to a local or networked database, or
even cloud database as long as it can
connect through the ODBC.

Easy to manage. Since the edit and

data update must be done in the
source database, it is easier for us to
maintain database integrity.
