What is conditional sentence?
A conditional sentence is a sentence
structure used to talk about something
(result) that may happen only IF
something else happens first
(a condition)

Types of Conditional Sentences
1) “If” type One - possible condition or
likely condition.
2) “If” typeTwo - Unlikely imaginary
3) “If” typeThree – Impossible conditions.
Note:- These conditional sentences are
classified according to the degree of
probability that they Express.

Each type of conditional sentences uses different tenses
to show the difference in the degree of probability.

♡♡♡
The conditional sentence is composed of
two parts.
If clause + main clause
Example:- If you study hard you will get good results.

If clause Main clause

‘If’ type one (possible situation)

• In type one of the conditional sentences we


talk about possible, real conditions that
have possible results.
• The tense in the ‘if’ clause is in simple
present ,and the tense in the main clause is
in the simple future.

Structure of the conditional type one

If + simple present tense + simple future tense

Example:- If it doesn’t rain today, I will


water the plants.

• When we write conditional
sentences ,the order of the two
clauses is flexible.
• we can write conditional sentences
in two ways.

(I)
• If the if clause comes first the two
parts are separated with comma.
Eg:- If it rains tomorrow , we will not
come to the play ground.
(II)
• When the results come first we do not use
the comma between the two clauses.
Eg :- We will not come to the playground
if it rains tomorrow. ♡♡♡

" If " type two ( Imaginery situation)
• In type two of the conditional sentences ,we
talk about unlikely conditions that are
unlikely to be fulfilled.
• The tense in the ‘if’ clause is in the simple
past, and the tense in the main clause is
‘would + infinitive’.
Example:-If I won a lottery,would buy a car.

• In this situation, it is impossible that the


condition will be fulfilled because it
refers to the past.
• The tense in the 'if' clause is in the past
perfect, and the tense in the main clause
is 'would + have +past participle '.
