Sample Paper - 01 (MCQ Based)

Class 10 - Science

Solution

1. (a) 2H2 (g) + O2 (g) 2H2O(l)

Explanation: At room temperature, hydrogen and oxygen are gases while water is liquid in nature
hence this represents correct states of reactants and products.
2. (a) 6CO2 + 12H2O + Chlorophyll + Sunlight C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6H2O
Explanation: The summary equation of photosynthesis is
6CO2 + 12H2O + Chlorophyll + Sunlight C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6H2O
Photosynthesis is a process by which green plants make their own food, e.g., glucose. CO2 and H2O in
the presence of sunlight energy and chlorophyll in the presence of Oxygen gas is released during the
process of photosynthesis.
3. (b) Oxidizing agent
Explanation: An oxidizing agent, or oxidant, gains electrons and is reduced in a chemical reaction.
Also known as the electron acceptor, the oxidizing agent is normally in one of its higher possible
oxidation states because it will gain electrons and be reduced. Examples of oxidizing agents include
halogens, potassium nitrate, and nitric acid.
4. (d) 1.0
Explanation: The magnification of the plane mirror is 1 since the size of the image is the same as the
size of the object. The distance of the image from the mirror is the same as the distance of the object
from the mirror.
Magnification (m) = = .
5. (a) Heterotrophs do not synthesise their own food
Explanation: Hetcrocrophs cither dependent on Phototrophs or other organisms for their food.
6. (a) Infinity
Explanation: If the object is placed at the focus of the concave mirror, the image will be formed at
infinity. The image will be highly enlarged and will be real and inverted.
7. (c) C and D
Explanation: The rainbow is a natural spectrum of sunlight appearing in the sky after a rain shower.
It is formed due to the dispersion of sunlight by the tiny water droplet, present in atmosphere. Water
droplets act like prism. It refracts and disperse the incident sunlight, then reflect it internally (total
internal reflection) and finally refract it again, when it emerges out of the water droplet. Red colour
appear on top and violet at the bottom of the rainbow.
8. (a) They convert CO2 and water into carbohydrates in the absence of sunlight
Explanation: They convert CO2 and water into carbohydrates in the presence of sunlight and
chlorophyll. This process is called Photosynthesis.
9. (d) Longest wavelength
Explanation: As red light has the longest wavelength, it has maximum energy and is least deviated.
10. (a) Displacement reaction
Explanation: Fe is higher in the reactivity series than Cu. So, it displaces Cu from its compound.
11. (a) Mesophyll
Explanation: The plastid is a major double-membrane organelle found in the meristematic tissues
especially inside parenchyma cells of the plants or leaves, and the parenchyma is present inside

the central leaf or mesophyll.

12. (a) Dazzling white colour flame
Explanation: Magnesium burns in air with a dazzling white flame.
13. (a) Negative
Explanation: By convention,
i. The focal length (f) of the concave lens is always taken as negative.
ii. The object distance (u) from the optical centre is always taken as negative.
14. (a) (i), (iii), (iv), (ii)
Explanation: Boiling kills the cells, chlorophyll leaches out when boiled in ethanol, but the leaf
becomes brittle, made normal by washing it in water. Starch, gets stained with iodine.

complete study material for CBSE, NCERT, JEE (main), NEET-UG and NDA exams.
15. (d) the foots are in straight line
Explanation: To avoid any change due to bend needles, the feet are to be arranged in a straight line.
16. (c) Barium chloride is mixed with sodium sulphate solution
Explanation: On mixing a solution of barium chloride with sodium sulphate, a white precipitate of
barium sulphate is immediately formed. These reactions are ionic in nature.
BaCl2 + Na2SO4 BaSO4 + 2NaCl
17. (c) At C
Explanation: At C
18. (c) is directly proportional to the thickness of the glass slab.
Explanation: The lateral displacement of an incident ray passing out of a rectangular glass slab is
directly proportional to the thickness of glass slab, angle of incidence, and refractive index however it
is inversely proportional to the wavelength of the incident light.
19. (d) Scattering of light
Explanation: While sunset and sunrise, the colour of the sun and its surrounding appear red. During
sunset and sunrise, the sun is near the horizon, and therefore the sunlight has to travel larger distance
in the atmosphere. Due to this most of the blue light (shorter wavelength) are scattered away by the
particles. The light of longer wavelength (red colour) will reach our eye. This is why the sun appears
red in colour.
20. (d) Pneumatophores
Explanation: Pneumatophores are specialized ‘breathing’ roots that develop in some plant species
growing in waterlogged or strongly compacted soils, e.g. mangroves. The aerial part of the root
contains many pores, enabling gas exchange with the atmosphere. Internally, a well-developed system
of intercellular spaces allows gases to diffuse throughout the submerged portion of the roots. Because
these roots are exposed and not submerged underwater, the root system performs the function of
obtaining oxygen which is otherwise difficult to obtain from the water-logged soil.
21. (b) Calcium
Explanation: The element is likely to be calcium. Calcium reacts with oxygen to calcium oxide (quick
lime or burnt lime). Calcium oxide has a high melting point. It is soluble in water and forms calcium
hydroxide (slaked lime). 2Ca (s) + O2 (g) --> 2CaO (s) ; CaO + H2O --> Ca(OH)2
22. (d) sun
Explanation: Larger the distance, better and sharper focus can be achieved.
23. (c) stomata surrounding by a pair of guard cells each
Explanation: Onion peel possesses stomata, guard cells, and epidermal cells. The nuclei are present in
both epidermal and guard cells. Stomata is a pore surrounded by guard cells, so it does not possess any

nucleus.
24. (c) r = sin-1
Explanation: According to Snell's law of refraction, the ratio of the sine of the angle of incidence to the
sine of the angle of refraction is a constant for a given pair of media, and for the light of a given colour.
If "i" is the angle of incidence and "r" is the angle of refraction, then:
= n

r = sin-1
25. (b) Rectum
Explanation: The small intestine comprises of three divisions - the proximal duodenum, the middle
jejunum, and the distal ileum. The rectum, although a part of the gastrointestinal tract, begins after the
large intestine ends. Hence, it is not a part of the small intestine.
26. (a) Iodine
Explanation: Lustre means to shine. Shining metals are also called lustrous metal. For example,
gold. Non-metals such as sulphur, oxygen, nitrogen are non-lustrous but iodine is a greyish black solid
and crystals have a metallic lustre.
27. (a) All of these
Explanation: Applications of optical fiber include:
i. Communication: The telephone transmission method uses fiber-optic cables. Optical fibers
transmit energy in the form of light pulses.
ii. Medical uses: Optical fibers are well suited for medical use. They can be made in extremely thin,
flexible stands for insertion into the blood vessels, lungs, and other hollow parts of the body.
Optical fibers are used in a number of instruments that enable doctors to view internal body parts
without having to perform surgery.
iii. Simple uses: The simplest application of optical fibers is the transmission of light to locations
otherwise hard to reach.
28. (d) Gold
Explanation: Gold, platinum, copper, silver are few metals that can be found in the free state because
they are unreactive in normal conditions with air, water, and other chemicals.
