Good Morning, class! Good Morning, Ma’am.

Everybody please stand for our prayer.

Lina, please lead the prayer. In the name of the Father, of the
Son, of the Holy Spirit.. Amen.

Before taking your seats, kindly look

around you and pick the pieces of dirt that
you will see. Please also arrange your
chairs and you may now be seated.
Do we have any absentee? None. Ma’am.

B. I. Introduction

1. Recall

Okay. Thank you. Now, who among you

can recall what you’ve learned
yesterday? Yes, Nico. Yesterday, we’ve talked about
the different types of sentences
such as declarative,
interrogative, imperative and
exclamatory sentences.
That’s right. Thank you, Nico.

Can someone give an example of a

declarative sentence? Abby. Next week, my relatives will be
arriving from Cebu.

Very good. How about an example of

interrogative sentence? Patrick. Will the sun brightly all
throughout the week?

Thank you, Patrick. Who can give an

example of an imperative sentence? Yes,
Ashley. Please give me the science book.

That’s correct. Lastly, how about an

example of exclamatory sentence? Bart. Oh! What a beautiful day it is.

Very good class.

Did I give you any assignment? No, Ma’am.

Okay then, we’ll proceed with our

activity.

1. Motivation

We will first have an activity entitled “Playing

Cards.” I will be dividing the class into three
groups and you will pick one card each. Each
card has a corresponding topic and question that
you need to answer. This part will be group one,
next is group two and the rest is group three.
Kindly go to your respective groups silently.

“PLAYING CARDS”

Hearts – Love (How will you

react when your parents give you an unexpected
gift?)
Diamonds – Friendship (What
do you think will happen when you found out that
your friend betrayed you?)
Spades – School (Why do you
think students drop out of school?)

Now, choose a representative from your group to

pick a card. Answer the question by group and
after which, choose a reporter that will present
your work. I will give you five minutes to think
about your answer and then, we’ll proceed with
the presentation.
We will be absolutely happy for
receiving such gift.

I would be disappointed if I knew

that it was true because I trusted
him/her.

Students drop out of school

primarily because of financial
reasons.

Okay. Thank you, class. What do you think do

They imply a reason why
those statements show?
something happened and what
happened as a result.
That’s right. Those statements show what
happened and why it happened as a result of a
certain event.

Our activity has something to do with our topic

today. Do you have any idea what is it? Who can
guess? Lino. Ma’am, I think our lesson is
about giving reasons or results
about a certain event.

That’s right. Very good. This morning, we will

tackle the cause-and-effect relationship.

But before that, let us be guided with the

following objectives. Kindly read them, Kit. At the end of the lesson, the
learners are expected to:
1. Define cause – effect
relationship,
2. Differentiate cause from
effect through appropriate
grammatical signals (EN8G-IIg-
9) and;
3. Compose a one-stanza
poem showing a causal
relationship.
II. Interaction

Let us first watch a short video about the cause-

and-effect relationship. Watch and listen
attentively because later on, we will discuss it.
You can also jot down important notes.

Video link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnSEFSk5VgQ

Do you understand the video, class? Yes, Ma’am.

Okay. From the video you have watched, please

define now what is a cause? Cathy. Cause refers to something that
produces an event or condition. It
is the event that happened first.

That’s right. Thank you, Cathy. Cause is the

reason why something happened. It answers the
question why. .
How about the effect? What is an effect? Yes, Effect is the result of the
Rod? actions. It is the event that
happens last.
Correct. Thank you, Rod. Effect refers to what
results from a certain cause. It answers the
question what happened.

Often, in statements showing cause and effect

relationship, there are words that are used
between them.

What are they and how are they being used to

show the cause-and-effect relationship? Rina. Ma’am, they are the signal words
which are used to connect the
cause and effect.

That’s right. How does it help you determine the

cause and effect? Pio. It helps us give cue or signals
emphasizing the connection of
both clauses.

Very good, Pio. Again, these are the examples of

signal words.

since because if then

due to so as a result

thus therefore consequently

Let us take this sentence for an instance. Kindly

read.

It was her birthday so she got to open It was her birthday so she got to
presents. open presents.

The cause in the given sentence is it was her

birthday. The effect of it is she opened birthday
presents. Do you understand, class? Yes, Ma’am.
This time, we will look at few more sentences
and determine the cause and effect.

1. Due to the global pandemic, there are less

people outside.
2. Many houses are totally destroyed after
the onslaught of three succeeding
typhoons.
3. Betty completed each task perfectly,
therefore she was promoted.

Read and answer the first one, Pete. Due to the global pandemic,
there are less people outside. The
cause is the global pandemic and
the effect is less people are
outside.

Excellent. That’s right, Pete. Thank you. How

about the second statement? Yes, Leda? The cause is the onslaught of
three succeeding typhoons and
the result or effect is many
houses are destroyed.

Impressive. That’s correct, Leda. Thank you.

How about the third sentence? Jess. The cause is Betty completed
each task perfectly and the effect
is she got promoted.

Very good, Jess. Undeniably, you can now

differentiate what is a cause and effect. Now,
with the sentences given and answered by your
classmates, look for the signal words that are
used in each sentence that show causal
relationship. I will only give you a minute to look
for it and after which, let us answer.

Are you done? Yes, Ma’am.

Who can answer and tell the class what are those
signal words? Vina. Ma’am, the signal words that
were used in the sentences were
because, since and due to.

That’s correct, Vina. Thank you.

III. Integration
Now, by pair, analyze critically the following
pictures and sentences. For numbers 1-2,
construct a sentence based on what the pictures
imply showing cause and effect relationship. For
numbers 3-5, encircle the cause and underline the
effect.

1.

2.

3. Face to face classes is suspended due

to COVID-19 pandemic.
4. Because of inflation, the prices of
goods increased.
5. There has been an increase in
greenhouse gases, therefore global
warming is happening.

You will be given five minutes to answer. Am I Yes, Ma’am.

clear?

Are you done? Yes, Ma’am.

All right. Let us check your answers, class. Give

me the answer for number 1, Ardy. 1. It rained heavily as a
result a flood occurred.

Very good. Number 2 please, Yessa. 2. Kate got a perfect score

in the exam because she
studied hard last night.

That’s right. Number 3 please, Ador. 3. The cause is the COVID

19 pandemic and the
effect is the face to face
classes is suspended.

Correct. Number 4 please, Rica. 4. The cause in the sentence

is the inflation which
resulted to an increased
in goods.
Very good. Last number please, Josh. 5. The cause is the increase
greenhouse in
greenhouse gases. The
effect is the global
warming.
Excellent, class. All of you got the correct
answers. You have definitely understood the .
difference of cause and effect. You are also
aware of the use of signal words to connect them.

Generalization

Okay, class. Why is there a need for us to know

the cause and effect of a particular situation?
Sonny. There is a need for us to know
this to help us identify, be
informed and understand a
certain event that is responsible
for a cause which results to a
particular effect.

Very good, Sonny. How do you think knowing

the cause and effect of something helps you in
becoming a better person? Aly. This helps us become a better
person in way that it allows us to
be more empathetic and
understanding as we become
more aware of why something
happens and also, it reminds us to
be mindful of the results of our
actions.
Impressive, Aly. Thank you for such insight. All
right class, do you have any question regarding
our topic? None, Ma’am.
