Question 01 (13)
a) Assume that you are working in an organization which implements its database in distributed
manner and to make the system fault tolerant (meaning that the DBMS should continue to
operate even if one of the hardware’s component fails). What would you suggest making the
system fault tolerant include disk drives, disk controllers to maintain the high performance
and high availability?
b) All enterprise systems provide services called cloning and snapshotting to provide the high
availability of the storage system, analyze these features and discuss the pros and cons of
each.

a) High availability in servers can be achieved by several factors. Discuss these factors with the
help of examples.
b) One often mentioned benefit of using blade servers is that after some years of operation, the
blades can be replaced by newer and faster blades. In practice, this is not always the case.
Why? Justify your answer.

To enhance the availability of Operating System, failover clustering is used. Define the concept
of failover clustering. Explain the concepts of voting and quorum of disks in detail.

a) Let’s assume that you are working in a Data Center and to maintain the security of the data
center is your concern, so how can you manage the security of the data center in the risk
management perspective, Also discuss the threads against IT Infrastructure.
b) The effort we put in securing the infrastructure should therefore be related to the risk at
hand. Discuss the complete risk management process with the help of examples.

Most large-scale IT projects require procurement of hardware, software, or services. The
purchase process entails determining what is needed, getting an offer, ordering, delivery,
warranty, and renewal. Explain each process in detail with the help of real example.
