Chinese Language Program for

International Students – fall 2021


Program Introduction and Application Guide

1. Introduction
The Chinese Language Program serves to help students to improve Chinese language skills and to acquire a better
understanding of China. Timeline for a semester: (1) Spring semester: Mid-February to the end of June; (2) Fall semester:
Early September to mid-January. Each semester consists of 18 weeks. The exact date changes slightly year by year.

Students will receive completion certificate and transcript if meet the requirement of enrollment, examination and attendance
when they finish study.

Tsinghua University provides students with IC card to access university resources such as libraries, canteens, sports facilities,
campus network etc.

2. Curriculum
The courses are taught by Language Center of Tsinghua university (LCTU). 4 periods per day and 20 periods per week
from Monday to Friday. In order to carefully and accurately distinguish students' Chinese proficiency, LCTU will arrange a
Chinese proficiency test at the beginning of the semester. All the students are required to attend the test.

There are 3 levels of courses ranging from beginner to high level. The courses of each level are shown in the following table.
The number in the table is the number of class units per week and one unit equals 45 minutes.

In addition to the compulsory courses of 16 units, the advanced class will also add some level-up courses as Business
Chinese, Chinese Culture, Ancient Chinese and Grammar.

Thanks to the profound impact of the pandemic, the course will be organized both on and off-line.

3.Qualifications of Applicants
Foreigners, having an education background that studying in a bachelor program (has finished at least one semester/quarter),
or graduated, or higher, a good moral character, age 18-55, and in good health.

4. Application Schedule
Application period: March 15 to May 15, 2021
Application closes: 5 pm, May 15, 2021
Application screening: mid-May-late June, 2021 (expected)
Result announcement: late June-mid-July, 2021 (expected)
Issuance of admission letters: July, 2021
fall semester kicking off: mid-September, 2021

5. Application Procedure
The applicant shall complete application before application deadline. Please check your on-line application status and
message from us in time, and check your email regularly.
Fill out on-line Application on the website of http://intl-nondegree.tsinghua.edu.cn/, upload electronic version of application
documents listed in section 6 (please scan the original application documents in color using a scanner. Images captured by
mobile phone or camera are not acceptable. Scans of copies are also not acceptable. You must submit original application
documents upon registration if admitted), submit the application, and then wait for verification. Your on-line application cannot
be submitted if you don’t give the required information when you fill out on-line application, or don’t submit the required
documents. If your on-line application status is "Unqualified", you need to amend your application, or upload required
documents, submit again, and wait for the verification till the status changes to "Verified".
After your online application form is verified and required application documents are verified on-line, your on-line application
fee payment will be activated so you can pay on-line.
After the on-line application status is changed to “Completed”, the applicant should wait for the application result, and log into
your on-line application to find out application result.
The application result is based on the electronic version of application documents. If admitted, you must submit original
application documents listed in section 6, (2) sub-section when you come to Tsinghua University for registration. If the original
application documents are not true, both the admission and visa will be canceled.

6. Documents to be submitted
(1) Highest academic diploma/certificate of enrollment: Final transcript is acceptable if it shows the degree awarded on the
transcript. If you have not yet graduated from undergraduate or graduate program, please submit enrollment certificate
and academic transcript. The academic diploma, transcript and enrollment certificate must be formal documents from
the university. All the documents must be in Chinese or English. If they are in other languages, please provide the
notarial translations in Chinese or English. The passport name must be shown on all the documents. If admitted, you
must submit the original documents when you come to Tsinghua University for registration.
(2) transcript: official transcript must be submitted with official signature or stamp.
(3) Information page of your passport page (with personal information and photo). If you are already in Mainland China,
please provide your valid Visa or Residence Permit as well.
(4) ID photo: It will be used as student ID photo if you are accepted. Photo requirement is shown in the online application.
Without meeting the requirement, the photo can’t be uploaded, or will be rejected, and the application can’t be considered
complete.
(5) If you are studying at another university in Mainland China, please submit a recommendation letter issued by the
International Students Office or the school of your host university with their contact information.

7. Admission Result
The applicant should check for application status, admission result, and student number (if has been admitted) via the on-line
application system. It takes time before the final admission result gets announced.

8. Admission Result, Visa Application and Registration


Normally the university will issue Admission Notice, Form JW202 (Visa Application Form for Foreigners), dormitory reservation
guide, and enrollment registration guide to those who are accepted by this program in January 2021. Students should bring
their ordinary passport, Admission Notice, Form JW202 and the other required documents to the Embassy or Consulate of
the People's Republic of China to apply for a student visa (X2 or X1 visa), and then come to Tsinghua University for enrollment
registration during the registration date with required documents.
This work could be adjusted accordingly if COVID-19 pandemic still impacts and implementation is subject to the real situation.

9. Accommodation
If you prefer to live in the international student dormitory on campus, you need to make a successful on-line reservation during
the date indicated in the dormitory reservation guide attached with the admission documents. There are single bed rooms
(with private bathroom, RMB80/day/person), AB rooms (two single bed rooms, share one bathroom, RMB80/day/person),
and double bed rooms (public bathroom for each floor, RMB40/day/person) in international student dormitories. The total
number of international student dormitory is very limited. If your dormitory reservation is not successful, you need to find
accommodation off campus by yourself.
This work could be adjusted accordingly if COVID-19 pandemic still impacts in 2021 spring.

10. Costs (in RMB Yuan)


(1) Application fee (non-refundable): RMB400
(2) Tuition fee: RMB12,600 (per semester)
(3) Accidental injury and hospitalization insurance: RMB400 (per semester)
