Q1. Discuss about small hydro projects (minimum 5) in your area (district
/adjoining districts/state).
Ans=>
a. Surya Hydroelectric Project:
Dhamni Dam (Surya) is a ground filling dam on the Surya River near
Dhamni, Palghar district in Maharashtra district of India. The height of
the dam above the lowest foundation is 59 m (194 ft) and is 1,563 m
(5,128 ft). The volume of the volume is 1,270 km3 (300 cu mi) and the
maximum final capacity is 285,310.00 km3 (68,449.51 cu mi). The Surya
Hydroelectric Project was commissioned in 1999 by the Maharashtra
Government and donated to MAGAGENCO (then MSEB) in May 2002.
The 6 MW power plant, produced by the Vertical shaft Kaplan turbine,
was developed by BHEL.
b. Bhatsa Hydroelectric Power:
Bhatsa Dam, is a dam that fills the earth with gravity in the Bathsa River
near Shahapur, Thane district in India's Maharashtra region. The height
of the dam above the lowest foundation is 88.5 m (290 ft) and the height
is 959 m (3,146 ft). The volume of the volume is 18.25 km3 (4.38 cu mi)
and the maximum final capacity is .97615 km3 (0.23419 cu mi).
Hydroelectric Power Installation - Power of 15MW.
c. Ujjani Dam:
Ujjani Dam, also known as Bhima Dam or Bhima Irrigation Project, on
the Bhima River, the Krishna River, is a cum Masonry dam near the
village of Jijani in Madha Taluk in Solapur district of Maharashtra district
in India. A power house-type storage tank is built on a dam with an
installed capacity of 12 MW (one flexible turbine unit of flexible pump)
on the left bank of the dam, 65 m (213 ft) downstream from the dam's
axis. It operates less than 20 percent less than the maximum head width
of 36.77 m (120.6 ft) and the minimum head area of 25.6 m (84 ft).
d. Majalgaon Dam:
The Majalgaon Dam is a landfill in the Sindphana River near Majalgaon,
in the Bed region of the Maharashtra region, India. The demolition route
will be about 2 km above the city of Majalgaon. The dam will have three
electric power plants, each capable of producing 750 kilowatts.
e. Yeldari Dam:
Yeldari Dam, a filling dam on the Purna River near Yeldari in Jintur is
located in the Parban region of India's Maharashtra region. It is the
second largest dam in Marathwada district. The dam is being renovated
and made into a large lake and is also a tourist attraction in the Parban
region. The dam was built between 1958 and 1968 under the
supervision of Yashwantrao Chavan. It has a hydroelectric power station
with three units of 7.5 MW per capacity at a total capacity of 22.5 MW.
Q2. If MSL of Diversion point of SHP is 1000 m and of power house area is 800
m. The discharge for power generation is 2.0 cumec. What is potential of site.
Take combined efficiency as 85% and head loss as 7.5% of gross head. calculate
the energy generated in a year. If the sale price of electricity is Rs. 3.00 per
unit. How much revenue this power house will get in a year?
Ans=>
H = 1000m - 800m = 200m (potential)
Q = 2.0 cumec
Efficiency = 85%
Head loss = 7.5%
Sale price of electricity = Rs. 3.00 per unit
|Power (kW) = 9.81 x Discharge (cumecs) x Net Head (m) x Efficiency|
Net head = 200*(1 - 0.075) = 185m.
Therefore, Power = 9.81 x 2 x 185 x 0.85 = 3085.245 kW.
Energy generation in one year = 3085.245 x 8760 = 27026746.2 units.
Revenue = 27026746.2 x 3 = Rs. 8,10,80,238.6
