Singapore
The first of Rizal's many visits to foreign lands was a two-day stopover in
Singapore in 1882. He toured the island by carriage, visiting sites such as the
Raffles statue, the Botanical Gardens, temples, markets, and a school.
Europe
Rizal was not only in Europe to write letters to foreign friends
and attend parties; he was there to study and, eventually,
campaign for reforms. His stay exposed him to different cultures

HONG KONG
During his stay in Hong Kong, Rizal made a living by running an
eye clinic on the Hong Kong Island
JAPAN
In Japan, Rizal studied the habits and customs of the Japanese
people, their language, theaters and commerce. He cheked out
of the Grand Hotel and entrained for Tokyo and there lodged at
the Tokyo Hotel. He wrote Blumentritt about the honesty,
courtesy,cleanliness and industry of the Japanese people.

Philippines for the first time on May 3, 1882 and headed
towards Spain using a passport under the name Jose
Mercado, obtained for him by his uncle Antonio Rivera,
father of Leonor Rivera. He travelled across Europe,
including France and Germany, until 1886

Italy
Rizal visited Italy for three days during his travels in
Europe. He arrived on June 27, 1887 and went to the
Capitoline, Tarpeian Rock, Palatine, Roman Forum,
Colosseo, Capitoline Museum, and the Basilica of St. Mary
Major.
