All Lucas Aerospace P/N 51538-001A Generator Control Units.
B. Reason
This Service Bulletin is being issued to review records on the Lucas Aerospace DC Generator Control Unit
(GCU) Data Plate for Mod status "B" P/N 51538-001A. Certain Lucas Aerospace P/N 51538-001A Mod "B"
GCU’s may cause the DC Generation System of the airplane to exhibit one or both of these conditions:
(1) On certain airplanes a 250 Amp or 325 Amp current limiter may open during engine cross start.
(2) On certain airplanes the interior lighting will oscillate bright/dim whenever the airplane DC electrical
load meters indicate less than approximately 20% load in flight.
Lucas Aerospace Service Bulletin No. 51538-001-24-02 provides a procedure for the replacement of
components on the voltage regulator board which will improve the performance of the current lim it feature
at low voltage levels. This Service Bulletin is applicable to all Lucas Aerospace P/N 51538-001A Mod "B"
GCU’s. The letter "C" is added to the Mod Block to signify incorporation of the Service Bulletin.
C. Description
This Service Bulletin provides the guidelines for the inspection of the Lucas Aerospace GCU P/N 51538-
001A. If the inspection reveals that the latest Mod status is not "B", no further action is required. If the latest
mod status is "B", the GCU should be removed and replaced with a GCU that has a Mod status other than
"B".
NOTE
It is possible that the GCU may have other modification status letters marked in
the MOD box. The inclusion of other mod status is not relevant, as long as Mod
"B" is not the latest Mod status.
D. Compliance
Raytheon Aircraft Company considers this to be a recommended modification and it should be
accomplished within the next 12 months after receipt of this Service Bulletin, but no later than the next
1200 flight hours, whichever occurs first.
E. Approval
The engineering data contained in this Service Bulletin is FAA approved.
F. Manpower
The following information is for planning purposes only:
Estimated man-hours to inspect both airplane Generator Control Units: 1 hour.

renewed, detailed investigation must be made on completion to make sure
that distortion, tools, rags or any other loose articles or foreign matter that
could impede the free movement and safe operation of the system are not
present, and that the systems and installations in the work area are clean.
(1) Inspect airplane or records to determine if a Lucas Aerospace Mod status "B" DC Generator Control
Unit (GCU) P/N 51538-001A is installed. If a Mod status "B" GCU is installed proceed with step (2). If
the GCU is not a Mod "B" proceed to step (10).
(2) Remove all electrical power and disconnect battery from airplane.
(3) Gain access to the both Generator Control Units in accordance with the applicable Maintenance
Manual.
(4) Inspect Generator Control Unit Data Plate to determ ine the latest Mod status. See Figure 1.
(a) If inspection reveals that the latest Mod status is "B", then proceed to step (5).
(b) If inspection reveals that the latest Mod status is not "B", then proceed to step (7).
(5) Remove the Generator Control Unit per Chapter 24-30 of the applicable Maintenance Manual.
(6) Install a new Generator Control Unit per Chapter 24-30 of the applicable Maintenance Manual. The
latest Mod status of the GCU should be other than "B".
(7) Reconnect the airplane battery, remove warning notices and restore power.
(8) Ensure all work areas are clean and clear of tools and m iscellaneous items of equipment.
(9) Perform a run-up check by cross starting the engines per the applicable airplane POH, POM, or AFM
if either or both GCU’S were replaced.
(10) Return the airplane to service.
