Certificate in Islamic Finance


Background

The Certificate in Islamic Finance is a 16 weeks introductory course. This course


introduce the basics concept of Islamic finance and Islamic finance industry. The
syllabus has been designed based on Accounting and Auditing Organization for
Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) Bahrain Accounting, Auditing and Sharia
standards.

Admission Eligibility

To be admitted to the Certificate in Islamic Finance, students must have good


knowledge of English language.

Duration of the course

The duration of the course is 16 weeks. (Students can study at their own pace. The
course can be completed within 12 months)

Medium of Instruction

Medium of Instruction will be English.

Mode of study: Distance learning. Students will be provided access to our learning
management system to access E-learning materials.

IF 101 The principles of Islamic Finance (3 Credits)

This module explains the basics of Islamic finance, economics, law, industry and history. At
the end of the course you will be able explain

1. What is Islamic finance?


2. What are the principles governed by Islamic finance

Assessment : Complete the MCQ at the end of the lessons

IF 102 Introduction to Islamic finance industry

This module describes the recent developments in Islamic finance industry. At the end of
this lesson you will be able explain

1. The history of Islamic finance


2. The current development in Islamic Finance

Assessment : Complete the MCQ at the end of the lessons


IF103 Islamic financial instruments (3 Credits)

After understanding the basic principles and law of contract, this module is the application
of the basic Islamic contracts in banking industry. End of this course you will be able
understand and describe ;

1. Explain the basic concept of Islamic financial instruments

2. Describe Mudarabah, Musharaka, Ijarah, Salam, Istisna and Murabaha contracts.

IF 104 Islamic banking

Islamic banking is one the core component of Islamic finance industry. The module
introduces Islamic banking, operations and their products. At the end of this course, you
will be able to explain;

1. What is an Islamic banking.


2. The difference between Islamic banking and conventional banks.
3. Operations of Islamic banks.
4. The products of Islamic banking .

IF105 Islamic Capital Market

Islamic capital market is one the fastest growing segment in Islamic finance industry. This
explain the investments from Islamic perspective and how the investment products are
organized in a market. At the end of this course, you will be able

1. Understand the basics of Islamic investment

2. Differentiate Islamic investment and conventional investments

3. Products of Islamic capital market
