Revision Date Description

01 November 15, 2019 First release of this document for NetWorker

19.2.

Product description
The NetWorker environment provides the ability to protect an enterprise against data loss. As the
enterprise grows, so does the complexity and importance of protecting data. The NetWorker
software provides the power and flexibility to meet these challenges.
The NetWorker software is a cross-platform, client/server application that provides the ability to
remotely manage all NetWorker servers from a web-enabled, graphical interface.
Before installing this release, review the NetWorker Installation Guide, NetWorker Administration
Guide, and other documentation. The "Additional resources" section lists the complete
documentation set.
Note: References to Data Domain systems in this documentation, in the UI, and elsewhere in
the product include Data Domain systems and the new PowerProtect DD systems.

New and changed features in NetWorker 19.2

This section provides information about the new features and enhancements in NetWorker 19.2.
Client management using NetWorker Management Web UI
The NetWorker Management Web UI has been enhanced to include support for the following:
l Managing client resources
l Managing probes
l Managing time policies
l Managing directives
l Managing restricted datazones
The NetWorker Administration Guide provides more information.
NetWorker REST API enhancements
NetWorker REST API supports client configuration, backup, and recover of the SAP HANA and
SAP HANA MDC database.
The NetWorker API Reference Guide provides more information.
NetWorker usage data reporting
NetWorker 19.2 allows you to configure MailHome to report usage data back to Dell EMC.
The NetWorker Administration Guide provides more information.

Release Notes

NetWorker IPv6 update

In the earlier versions of NetWorker, only the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or alias
associated with the IPv6 address was supported. Starting with NetWorker 19.2, IPv6 addresses
are supported and can be specified in all the fields of NetWorker interfaces, that is, NMC, NWUI,
and CLI which accept FQDN or alias.
The NetWorker Administration Guide provides more information.
Improve restore performance with multiple threads
Recover workflow for file system backups has been enhanced to perform restores in parallel. This
splits recover requests into multiple recover requests resulting in more than one recover stream.
This has improved recover performance in comparison to earlier versions.
Backups and restores using Direct Fiber channel for vProxy
You can now perform vProxy backups and restores using the DFC (Direct Fiber Channel) path.
The NetWorker VMware Integration Guide provides more information.
Separation of browse and retention feature
NetWorker 9.x had introduced the browse period equal to retention for Saveset lifecycle
management within index database and media database respectively. This change restricted the
index to be purged from client file indexes until the save set retention period was over and the save
set was eligible for recycle. For high density file systems or NDMP backups, this was an additional
overhead on the NetWorker server when the index growth became exponential with a huge index
database. To eliminate this issue, NetWorker 19.2 removes this restriction partially by providing a
CLI capability to separate the browse period from the retention period.
The NetWorker Administration Guide and the NetWorker Command Reference Guide provides more
information.
Support for nsrim to mark orphaned save sets as suspect
Starting with NetWorker 19.2, the nsrim program has been enhanced to mark orphaned save set
records as "suspect". A save set is orphaned when there is a save set record in the media
database, but there is no corresponding data on the disk. You can then delete those suspect save
sets using the nsrmm command or the GUI.
Support for Networker vProxy log aggregation management
NetWorker 19.2 supports the vProxy centralized logging feature which enables you to aggregate
vProxy logs in the NetWorker server. These aggregated logs can be further pushed to a
centralized location using various logging servers. In a production environment consisting of large
number of vProxies, this feature helps in reducing the effort of collecting logs from an individual
vProxy.
The NetWorker VMware Integration Guide provides more information.
Configuring temporary space on a SQLite media database
Networker 19.2 enables the auto configuration of the compression path used by SQLite media
database. The default path is /nsr/tmp.
The NetWorker Administration Guide and the NetWorker Performance Optimization Planning Guide
provides more information.
Third party embedded software compliance
NetWorker 19.2 ensures software compliance of all third party embedded software such as open
source software, operating systems, and so on.
