Reflection

As I studied cultural responsiveness in the differentiated classroom, I learned about

cultural differences that impact the lives and learning of many diverse students. This course has

helped strengthen my teaching skills and prepare better adaptions into my lesson by

implementing every concept that defines cultural responsiveness (Howard n.d) in a classroom

setting. In addition, I learned about the theories and methods for creating multiple ways of

enhancing learning and how o empower students to a higher level of academic achievement with

diverse cultural backgrounds.

As a professional educator, I felt responsible for maintaining an environment where

students will learn from other's experiences and interpretations. However, I learned many new

approaches and practices that have effectively engaged and motivated students in my classroom.

Adapting Research-based strategies should be used to instruct learners to create a culturally

responsive classroom environment. Strategies strengthen student's cultural identity and promote

equity, making learning contextual to feel included in a classroom. Everything starts by building

a relationship with your student to ensure they feel respected, valued for what they represent

(UDL Center,2014).

Building relationships helps build positive communication within the classroom and with

each other, which is extremely important. Integrating relevant content activities motivates and

keeps a student engaged. Culturally responsive instructional strategies benefit each student's

knowledge and capabilities in other areas such as academic, social, emotional, health and

wellness, cognitive skills, culture, language, living situation, and making students' positive

attitudes to be meaningful in the classroom.

I was satisfied with the classes that I taught throughout this course; they were successful.

Student engagement creates the difference. My focus throughout these lessons were to

accomplish the learning goals focusing on those students who need guidance to master the skills.

These lessons improved my practical teaching skills by incorporating chemistry into physics and

getting students to develop mastery next year's following course and college-career readiness.

The next step to ensure proficiency for every student in my classwork is to provide

multiple learning pathways that will help my students demonstrate common learning

expectations. Adapt different learning styles with collaboration to ensure personalization, equity,

and rigor for all in the classroom. Focus (LEAP,2017) and approach my students differently with

methods of observations and checklist. Provide and add the learning goals to the paper instead of

just reading them aloud on the smartboard. So, students can keep in mind their learning tasks.

The following steps for becoming better at differentiating my instructional approaches for all

learners in my class will be to review my current practices to maximize academic and social,

cultural aspects. Attend to the professional development of ESL teachers to enhance student's

understanding of new ESL/Bilingual requirements and how to incorporate these in a proficiency

and update students learning needs strategies.

Every person can make a unique and positive contribution to the larger society because of

the existence of various cultural or ethnic groups. Therefore, learning about diversity is to

embrace all different cultures, backgrounds, and races for the beautiful uniqueness that makes

everyone an essential part of the world.
