Mathematics in the Modern World

Midterm - Lesson 2
Determine the measure of central tendency of
ungrouped and grouped data
Solve the measure of central tendency
It is the most commonly used measure of central
tendency. When we talk about average, we
always refer to the mean.

The formula in getting the mean of the given

data is:

The median is the midpoint of the data array.
Before finding this value, you need first to
arrange in order from least to greatest or vice
versa. The median will either be specific value
or will fall between two values.
Eight friends in a Math class of 30 students
receive a test grades 86, 92, 88, 86, 87, 91, 91
and 89. Find the median.

Solution: Arrange from lowest to highest grade.

Median = 86 86 87 88 89 91 91 92
Median = 88 + 89 = 177 / 2
Median = 88.50
Five pregnants were lined up for check up and
given blood pressure check first. Their blood
pressure were recorded: 120, 110, 110, 130,
130. Find the median.

Solution: Arrange the given from least to

greatest.
Median = 110 110 120 130 130
Median = 120
It is the value that occurs most often in
the data set.
The number of values/data/observation
in the data set which appears the most
number of times.
