Rising Action: events leading up to the highest point of interest
Climax: the highest point of interest in the story; the conflict reaches its peak

CONFLICTS IN MOCKINGJAY
Conflicts are the opposing forces that the protagonist (the main character in the story) struggles with. The
antagonist (which could be a character or an internal or external force) is the source of contrast and/or the
conflict. A story must have a conflict to add interest to the plot. The more complicated the novel, the more
conflicts it may include.

Types of Conflict: Internal: Character’s struggle within herself/himself. The conflict can only
be resolved by her/his actions or decisions.

External: Conflict involves outside forces such as other characters, nature,

community, or fate--things that cannot be controlled by the
protagonist.

Kinds of Conflicts: Character vs. Herself/Himself (internal)

Character vs. Character (external)
Character vs. Circumstances/Fate (external)
Character vs. Society (external)
