Reflection Paper

Laura Hollick gave a TED talk called "You are the art" about using creativity and imagination to overcome obstacles and create a new world. She discussed how imagining a goal is the easy first step, but achieving it requires persevering even when progress is disappointing. The most motivating message was to keep moving forward until imagination becomes reality. The student found the talk thought-provoking and inspiring to help achieve their big dreams through not giving up each time results failed to match imagination.

In the video titled “You are the art”, Laura Hollick talked about how being creative can

help us

overcome obstacles in our daily lives. At the beginning of the talk, she discussed about how our world is

changing and raised the question, “How can we create a new world?”. As she further expounded her

argument, she emphasized on using one’s imagination can help in creating a new world. She talked

about her journey and how using her imagination and actualizing it helped her arrive where she wanted

to be. This TED talk had already got me thinking about how incredible her journey has been, from a

student with acne problems to owning a company that earns 6 figures.

The first step, according to Laura, is always the easy step. It is the imagining part that’s easy,

after that it’s always a battle to walk through the illusory lie that we achieved what we wanted to. As a

student, I was inspired by her talk. I realized that I could have achieved more if I did not give up every

time the result of my imagination disappointed me. Although it’s easier said than done but it is what

separates successful people from mediocrity. The most striking words Laura said in the talk was,

“continue to move forward until your imagination becomes reality”. This thought motivated me to

better not only in school but also as a person. I have big dreams and I’m sure this thought provoking talk

will help me achieve it.

It is a blessing that these talks are free on the internet. We have a lot of information at our

fingertips and we always fail to see what is already in front of us. I am thankful for this activity because it

has been an eye opener for me, and I plan to watch more TED talks because I seem to enjoy listening to

stories of interesting people. I also plan to share what I have learned from this video to my friends and

family and I hope they learn something also.
